Why people hate/love Decapre

looks at EA Too late…

It wouldn’t because those are entry level jobs. If you continually put out crappy games no one is going to buy them. Now game testers actually are treated pretty crappily. If you read the blog entries at the Trenches comics at Penny Arcade you can see just how poorly. Capcom actually saves and in fact makes a good bit of money charging people at loctests. Smart of them.

He thinks the lazy design is that offensive.

well if people buy Sports games every year, anything is possible.

Obviously they got the expectation from Capcom. It was Capcom that hyped up this character to levels that they couldn’t support. They stoked the fires, fired up the players, built up expectations, then unveiled what essentially amounts to a Seth-like Frankenstein amalgamation of elements from various other characters.

I imagine that if Capcom had just clarified from the get-go that they were working on an additional character based on an already existing character template, this giant cloud of “I am disappoint” wouldn’t be hanging over what was supposed to be an exciting new development for their game. You’re supposed to under-promise and over-deliver. Capcom did the opposite.

Maybe because I know too much about stuff going on in the background in the industry, but not once did I ever expect a totally new character.

You still can’t put random people on teams and expect results. Anyone can work at Walmart or McDonalds. Good luck getting even most gamers to be competent at making games, whether it be modeling or texturing or…anything. People buy sports games for roster updates but we’re totally going to do the same thing. They just do it every year for sure.

Gonna copy/paste what I posted in that other thread:

How can anyone not like this character? She looks incredibly fun to use. A little broken at the moment, but hopefully they balance her like they said they will. Don’t like the Air Cannon drill, though… The animation looks really cheap, floaty, and modded. If I were them, I’d remove it all together. As far as her appearance goes… I don’t mind it it. Cammy’s my favorite character in all of SF, so I’ll admit that I’m a little biased.

What I love:

  • Caitlin Glass’ Russian accent
  • Everyone’s tears

What I hate:

  • The daggers, shoulda been Vega’s claw

I’mma message the Japanese Cammy players I have on my friends list to tell them to make sure she’s top tier. I mean, if Bas was able to keep stuff from Capcom to make A-Bison top tier in CvS2, he can surely do it for Decapre as well.

Unless they add a bunch of restrictions, recovery, and negative frames to her moves, she’ll be top tier without a doubt. Just the sheer amount of options and bullshit she has access to places her above the majority of the cast, if not the entire cast. Can’t wait :bgrin:.

Not being funny ,but she has a huge bag of unique specials which took time to animate, program and implement , time = money as you have to pay people
Not even mentioning it took time to even decide on doing her

Why are people acting like capcom took 20 mins to reskin cammy and just pushed it out

Don’t let the saltyness make you ignorant

From my personal standpoint I can disagree, I walked in on a open house at Sony Santa Monica and personally told someone he was messing up on texture mapping and helped him smooth out the model but at that point it’s pretty bad that a under grad art student telling you how you should do your job. I don’t believe just your average joe can do things like coding/debugging or creating highly detailed models, but almost anyone can create basic models and do cleanup work for other people on the art dev. team…which is an entry level position.

I think the main problem with gamers not being competent in making games lie in the fact that most gamers are generally unaware on what actually goes on behind the scenes and believe that a game sits in a development microwave for X amount of time while all the devs play chess or someshit. The more people who realize that devs. work their asses off like their in sweatshops, the less condescending attitudes towards developers who work on games as a whole.

I understand sports games roster updates are important and basically FG’s and other genres of games do a similar model, the huge difference is that FG’s are moving away from charging people $60 for roster updates, and instead offering something that is generally a more affordable alternative, especially to those who bought the previous title. In this instance, it’s DLC done well enough to provide a substantial update to a X year old game with few new content that wasn’t there before or locked away behind some arbitrary unlock code that needed to be purchased/time unlocked.

By entry level I mean job entry level not game making entry level. I would assume you still need an art degree and you can have as many modelers as you want. It’s fairly hard to crap out games and not lose your studio I would think. I, at the very least, would think game making is hard enough you’re not gonna have crazy amounts of the work force crapping games out.

Also you talked to devs at SSM? Should have told them to not fuck up PASBR. :<

The Degree isn’t necessary…all a degree really says is “hey im competent at doing this”, but I’m trying to get a job in the industry now. The thing is, Sega America has been crapping out games all last gen and long and behold it only managed to send the message that Sega America isn’t allowed to develop as many games as before as they were known for those Marvel movie franchise shovel-ware.

I chatted up with the guys and gals who made PASBR, they are pretty cool, but alot of the people who worked on the game were new people…as in…that’s the first game they ever worked on. So I really understand why it turned out that way. It was interesting to see what they were thinking when they were conceptualizing the game and how it all came to be. That and Classic Capcom Dante was the initial idea but later changed due to the release of the reboot :frowning:

That game actually had such potential. I felt it got worse on each patch.

They get their feedback from official Playstation outlets alot of the time -_-’ which are filled with scrubs so…you can imagine. Though they do read what SRKers say and take it into consideration. However their idea was to make a game that is fun for everyone and not just the hardcore apparently…take that with a grain of salt.

Well. Year long patch coming in. I’ll try it again.

I think it comes down to how Capcom handled it. The game was announced last year at EVO and we had to wait all this time after announcing the 4 others just for a clone? You do that for a character that has a new graphical build and animations, not a clone. The reception would of been a lot better if they just announced Decapre at the same time they did the other 4 characters.

Personally, I like Decapre. Im excited to play her.

I love Decapre because she is part of The Best Street Fighter game of them all: Street Fighter Alpha 3. If you haven’t played Street Fighter Alpha 3 you are a scrub.
