Why no snk games at evo

I’m not bashing the SNK community, I’m bashing SNK. There’s a difference. Sure, their fighting games are good, but they don’t let them get exposure in the states. They could’ve really pulled in some sales with KOF12 just by feeding off the momentum SF4 created, but they marketed poorly, and made a shoddy console port to boot.

Like I said previously, traveling just to play SNK is not something I could afford to do, and if there’s the possibility of learning games locally, then that further diminshes the chances that I travel for SNK over staying in my area and improving in other games, especially games with bigger turnouts at most tournaments, especially more local tournaments. That’s me, props for the dedication on going for it on the SNK games.

But I think the thing that would grow the SNK community the most is for SNK to disable their apathy machine and start doing something to get people interested in their games.

As in not catering to people who won’t play the games anyway and caring about your own fanbase? I wish this was the case with 12 as we may have gotten a badass game in the end.

This is what I’m talking about. The people that RELY on others to get them better, the half hearted players or the ones that just look for the tiers or let ignorance or one particular POV govern what they think about the game (My favorite is the people that say KGO rule KOFXI, God I hate that with a passion! They are better off just keeping their mouth shut!) . I don’t like pigeonholing everyone in the same category so I’ll be specific. You can be hardcore and not be able to travel believe me I understand. I’m talking about the half hearted weak ass players that give American SNK players a bad name. You know, the ones that play KOF like Street Fighter and are just “playing the game to pass the time” and ask me to help them out with everything but ain’t willing to really do anything to learn the game themselves- Big problem with that!

Put yourself in my shoes, you put all this money hard work into travelling helping people going everywhere, and certain places aren’t any better than they’ve been since you left! Or let me put it like this, all it takes is a trip to another country a few years ago for the first time and you realize just how weak certain areas are!

Not everyone can be a leader I understand that, but it’s about dealing with what you got and if you wanna be a leader people like me can help you out…IMO it’s all about what the person wants to be. If they wanna be a leader they will find a way to be one…I’m still making sacrifices to be a leader to this day, stuff people just have no clue about…

But that’s because I want to do this. I’m planning on doing things that could very well change the very FACE of SNKp in the future people have no idea…

What you gotta realize is less are gonna organize stuff locally, and youve done your part I know Shiki to organize stuff, but its like around here, if things aren’t gonna go well for you what can you do? Maybe if its one trip A YEAR start small and watch what that does for your game, your passion, your enthusiasm overall…

But still you’re missing my point overall- Bashing SNK isn’t gonna make the situation better. It’s like you’ve been dealt with a bad card, now what are you gonna do about it? That’s what it boils down to…you can complain, or you can jump the hurdle and go from there…

you know what would really benefit SNK games in terms of visibility?

a channel like FADC: http://www.youtube.com/user/FrameAdvantageDotCom

apart from Dandy J’s excellent KOF tutorial, i haven’t seen anything on youtube SNK-related with decent good quality and presentation.

You mean tutorial wise? Or just flat out, high caliber play?

He cant be talking about high level play…because if he is then I am just beside myself…probably tutorial wise but hey I could be wrong lol…

Also about people learning the game- If they are dedicated enough they’ll learn the game period, sans Dandy’s tutorial there are more than enough sites, videos, and tools out there for people to learn things. So while I understand what the guy is saying, at the same time it’s up to the person to get those tools themselves. Using the search function not only on this site but on the internet in general, youtube etc separates the real players from the whiny dabblers! If they don’t wanna do any of that work quite frankly a new flashy tutorial isn’t gonna do much for them, let’s just be for real here.

I’m gonna be blunt here- some people don’t like hard work, or their heart just isn’t in it to begin with, they look for the easy way out, look for others to help them get better, and promise they’ll get better in the future and train hard, but who are they fooling? They are only fooling themselves, they aren’t progressing any!

The more popular SNK games have the best netcode in the world: GGPO. If your game isn’t supported, make a savestate and rename zip. Problem solved. And I like how you attack the US “apathy machine”. Do you go on #SNKPLAYMORE? Do you hang out on GGPO for games? Do you get on 2df? If you aren’t doing any of the above you’re part of the problem. None of these things are hard to do (no monetary investment besides internet and a computer which you presumably have). and they are ways of supporting the community.

both.

So wait, you telling me out of all the stuff out there, and I do mean ALL the stuff out there on youtube, nicovideo, youku.com, battlepage.com, all the stuff you can’t find ANY high level play whatsoever??? :wtf: :wonder:

So what about this? I bet you dont think this is high level play do you?

You’ll find more high level play videos for KOF than practically any other game on youtube hands down sans Tekken. So I really don’t know what you are talking about.

Not only this but you could easily come to #SNKPlaymore on efnet and ask for vids of high level play and people would be more than glad to link you. It’s frusturating when all the resources are laid down for people and they don’t utilize them.

This…guy wins the thread. This is my point precisely, it doesnt matter how pretty you spice it up, if people still ain’t gonna use the utensils it doesn’t matter how what you do to bring in new people…

Bottom line is they still aren’t gonna do it.

Plus they’ll say “Make the game like Street Fighter” and when you do make it like SF guess what- THEY STILL DON’T PLAY IT. :wonder:

snk games don’t have ultras

He said good quality and presentation. Nowhere in his post did he mention a disparity in high level gameplay.

Fuck the pretty shit when you want to learn a game at the highest possible level.

Of all the ugly, garbage, low res videos I see of high level SF and Marvel, I don’t why this would have such a big impact on new players joining the ranks.

No you learn by playing the game itself. A good presentation comes a long way getting more people interested.

EDIT: While a lot of the older material is low quality for other games its progressing forward, its not at the fps levels where you can high quality high resoulution streams but its going forward. Most of the snk stuff i watch on youtube is low fps screencaps from emulators or deinterlaced shaky cams.

EDIT2: Added more stuff

This was self explanatory from the get go. But trying to get new players through paltry, hi res videos of games they probably wouldn’t take seriously in the first place is not a scene maker.

I mean…look at 98um and 2002 um. There’s a shitload of good quality vids on high level play and tutorial type shit that will still go unnoticed just because SNK made it.

Well he’s still clueless…has he ever heard of SBO? Has he ever heard of Duelling the KOF? This is good quality and presentation right here so I understand what you are saying but this further convinces me that a lot of people on the Northern side of America (aka the USA) are very clueless about things in regards to KOF/SNK.

Duelling the KOF has been going on for a long time, with excellent presentation/quality-

Once again my point being, the stuff is out there, but if he’s never seen it its proof he just isn’t looking hard enough…

Which is the problem I find MOST of the time in the USA.

Good presentation goes a long way, but also DESIRE/dedication (to actually LOOK for the tools out there) and the quality of the game itself goes further… Good presentation is like the fireworks before the Super Bowl, looks pretty and all but it’s not what’s gonna hold weight and what people are gonna remember the most, its the GAME ITSELF that’s gonna hold the most weight.

Also the people that are just the graphics whores are probably half hearted players to begin with, like Shishioh said.

Geesendou’s channel has hundreds of KOF 2002UM videos uploaded, all generally high-level play as they’re ripped straight from the arcade and all in good/high quality…

Oh noes!!! They weren’t supposed to exist!!!

Let’s see what the next excuse is…not enough sparkles and shit like a bad Brazilian combo vid I guess…

Yeah seriously, these excuses are about as old as the dogshit on my front lawn…

before I forget either of you got a link to a channel with some 98UM vids? I already subscribed to DG’s youtube channel but one or two more sources couldn’t hurt (I already go to Nico Nico as well)…
