The first 2 of course are true, though I don’t really see the resemblance to Ibuki beyond being a ninja (in which case you should include Guy). I guess cause they both throw ninja weapons? I dunno. Geki was much more like Vega but I wouldn’t mind seeing Geki remade and re-explored but I also wouldn’t really be disappointed if he was just left out.
The last one doesn’t make much sense if you know about SF1’s Joe. Beyond being a blond white american guy (like 75% of Japanese art represents americans as :P) he was very very different in fighting style and such.
I’d rather new characters that tie into countries like they use too. Bring back Sean and turn Him into a sick brazillian mma fighter instead of the Dan of 3s. He even has a ground and pound move lol
Personality and backstory aside she has a fairly unique outfit and style. Geki is a very generic looking ninja unlike Ibuki. Also Geki has zero personality unlike Ibuki’s generic personality. One interesting thing is that I read that Geki isn’t actually a specific person rather a clan of people and that is who taught Vega. That might not be canon though, I dunno. On one hand that is an interesting aspect of Geki, on the other hand it also further weakens his identity since he literally is a bunch of different people.
While the character design and personality don’t tie quite as heavily into their place of origin as SF2 or SF1 the new characters in SF4 do still have countries of origin you know. El Fuerte being probably the character most like an SF2 design in terms of how his art and personality play into his country of origin.
Yea but El fuerte and hakan are the only ones out of Seth (boss i know), Abel, viper, juri, Rufus, gouken, oni, poison, decapre and the former two.
And those two are pretty obvious/ the easy ones too.

Im just saying I wouldn’t mind going back to the country based style. It was pretty cool. Like my Sean example. Turning him into an mma shoto would be fantastic. Give Gi shorts that he cut into shorts himself with a Gi top that has cut off sleeves. Make his normal throws look like MMA style take downs (double leg take down for forward throw, judo hip toss back throw, neutral throw is a mua thai clinch where he can either knee or throw an uppercut in the clinch depending on which button you mash). Give him his fireball only from spending meter and make it utility based and not damage oriented. keep the focus on hand combat. He has the roll into the ground pound. Ugh I should stop getting my hopes up that we would get something good like that
I understand your points, but like I said before, outfits don’t mean much anymore now that we have alternate costumes. I’m not saying outfits don’t mean anything, but that they don’t define the character anymore as they did in the SF2 and Alpha series eras. This and Geki himself hasn’t had the chance to shine personality-wise. He could be made into a saint, a raper, a man made of clay or something to that effect, an outfit with nothing in it etc. Then they can give him a fitting moveset. The possibilities are limitless.

Retsu being a master of kenpo is very interesting. However as far as his visual design, they can do a ton with it. Obviously it would be updated for SFV, much like Gen, Adon, Ryu, Ken, Sagat, were when they appeared in later street fighter games. He is basically a monk (which already is interesting), they could do a ton to make his character look badass and awesome.
Juri being a korean that does tkd pretty much fit in
Abel=Fedor is like Fei Long/Balrog=Bruce Lee/Tyson: fighter tribute pretty classic SF thing since SF1
For whatever reason they fucked his nationality into french, when russian was waaay more fitting since the fighter is russian and (as Abel) does russian sambo
It’s nice france actually has a representative now but there is no reason there can’t be more than one russian rep. There are multiple UK, Japan, USA and China reps, why not the other international superpower that is Russia? Russia is a big country after all! Actually there is one other now with Decapre.
I’m not disagreeing, I actually said I’d like Geki to get reimagined but from his SF1 standpoint he was one of the most generic characters as a very very basic ninja design with nothing terribly unique about him at the time.
Also, I never saw his sprite sheet but it’s interesting to me that Geki’s crouching kick looks almost identical to another ninja: Guy! I saw that and was like “wait… that looks familiar”
O shit yeah I totally forgot about him. Literally not even just like forgot where he is from just forgot about him. He is kind of forgettable to me. I do kind of hope he comes back for a Capcom vs SNK3 since he is so obviously based on chars like Iori.
Thing is at least Remy (that i don’t like in a SF game, bring that skinny wierdo to KoF) was at least designed around the fact of being french.
He does something that remind french savate, his whole appearance is pretty much “french anime guy”, and have french stage
Abel is a tribute to russian fighter uber proud to be russian (and personal friend of putin too lol), does something that clearly is SF version of russian sambo, and his whole design is about being a huge IvanDrago-like dude in typical russian sambo uniform
Even the alt is about olympic wrestling, wich is something often associated with russians
Is not even a brilliant chara design move to emphasize though contrast or something unexpected a la Dudley (who is awesome)
Is just a 100% russian design with a french flag on, lol

Yeah that’s very true and valid point, but there is not like they couldn’t bring Joe back and revamp him. His attacks (other than the jumping kick) look all pretty different from Cody’s and his personality is decently different seeming from the little we know. Far less mopey.
Of all though Eagle is the only one I really want to return. I feel that they pulled out the best cast members from SF1 already with Birdie/Eagle/Gen/Adon/Sagat as I said before. Eagle is the only one that didn’t ever get a chance to shine in an SF game proper having only been in CvS2 and the PSP Port of Alpha3 as a non-canon character using a chopped up version of his CvS2 animations (and felt different looks wise from the Alpha series designs).
