Why most US fighting gamers dont want to play new 2D fighters?

I think Justin doesn’t like Guilty Gear, I played him on XI and he destroyed me, due to the shitty pad. Otherwise, I think we would have had a decent fight. But he played alright, it seems he takes all fighting games seriously. i wonder what would have happened if I would have played him on a stick.

but whatever, I lost, period, no excuse.

Cool you got to play him! So do you know him personally or did you play at some console tournament? I would be cool to some vids next time :wgrin:

Seriously though top player sometimes influence new players to play games. Lol why do you think so many people play 3rd Strike nowadays? Ever since Evo 2k4 loads of people all of sudden decided to pick up 3rd Strike. Granted the re-release on the Xbox and PS2 helped a bit.

This got me into Third Strike more than anything else.

I played a lot of fighting games when I was a kid, Samurai Showdown and SFII:Turbo on my SNES, but it was all casual. My local arcade went through at least two cabs of every one of the vs. games, but NEVER had a SFIII machine…I didn’t even know the game existed.

Then I picked up SFAC and I moved to G-ville a year later and actually had comp to play against. Now, I’m a hopeless addict. I saw the Beast Unleash waaaaaaaaay after the fact. Of Course, that might just be me.

Both of you are right, hence why with my approach at NEC showing some of the best in the US and high level play go up against each other in match vids at NEC in NGBC, SST, KOFXI etc will motivate people to play SNK games etc!!!

See, there used to be these things that were called “video game magazines”…

There may be life for 2-D series…in 3-D only.

Case in point, when KOF 2006 came out, one of my managers put it our Interactive PS2 for about a week and saw many people (and these are the average EBGamestop customers…THE Casual, Mainstream audience) pick the game up and enjoy it without complaining about the graphics or understanding all of the complexities of the game.

The problem is that these casual players will never dedicate themselves to the game.
Hell, perhaps the most sobering evidence of that is Super Dragon Ball Z.
If ANY 3-D fighter had a chance of instilling old-school SF values on this generation it was that game…and sales were atrocious (granted the marketing for the game was NIL, but…)
Absolutely depressing how many calls we got from trailer trash customers who wanted to return the game because (DURR! HOw do u play thiz gamez?@@#!)

^^is that bret hart in your av? lol that shit is funny.

“The problem is that these casual players will never dedicate themselves to the game.”

That is the sad, unfortunate truth in our impulsive quick fix society…

smoking crack=bad

in U.S.A?

riiiight!

LMAO!!!

Heroin is worse though!!! :smokin:

I actually wish what that guy posted Evilmuff was true!! It would make my job that much easier!!!

I think he meant that it was already established. Meaning that it would be hard to get on par to the competitive players.

KoF is big elsewhere around the world, though.

yep, just like futbol(soccer in usa)

what the hell is wrong with usa anyway

people who said the only thing that attracted gamers to guilty gear and
melty blood is the look are just stupid as hell. its true guilty gear is the
first fighter i played seriously but the anime style isnt wat pulled me in.
wat pulled me in was the fast gameplay, balanced characters, and the
depth and variety that u could bring to your own character. for example
if u watch a match vid of guilty gear u can see the differences in different
player’s play styles but in 3s if u saw 3 different people playing the same
character its damn near impossible to tell the difference. also in gg you
can use ANY CHARACTER and still have an equal fight but in 3s if u dont
use chun ken or yun theres basically no way u will win a major tournment.

IT is true that the anime, simple type combos, and flashiness is what attracted guilty gear heads…i like the game…but Street fighter and Tekken is where its at for me…When i first started playing guilty gear i was like using chipp and did like a dust and did like a 12 hit combo…im like ohh shit im going off with him…i wasnt of course but the fact that it was combo friendly made me and a bunch of friends play it…they didnt play Street fighter…i owned them in that…but they were all over guilty gear…

That’s funny because when I first played GG easy combos was one of the things that turned me away from the game. I only started gaining interest in GG after I started watching tournament videos and seeing that there was a lot more to GG than simply easy combos. Only then I understood how deep the game was.

how the hell are gg combos simple at all? if anything, it has greatest emphasis on combo execution than any competitive 2d fighting game next to marvel.

but i still wouldn’t call gg a “combo game”. core of the gameplay still revolves around basic fighting game elements like space control, defense, etc.

and fyi, doing 5d > jp, jp, jp, jp, jp, jp, jp with chipp is not a “combo”

qft

Seriously, you phail (note the PH), Shibuya.

Thats cool…so i guess you play 3rdstrike, Marvel, etc then???

Well for the past 7 months I’ve been trying to get a scene together for Fist of the North Star here in Phoenic. Tried getting some interest in it from players at the local arcade, got a nice cabinet for everyone to play on but it hasn’t really worked out. A lot of the players here just saw 1 or 2 Toki vids and wrote the game off, as most of the community has. Just found 3 new guys who are hella hype about it thru srk and had our first meet tho. Looks like we’ll finally have a scene for it here. So for anyone trying to do the same, just keep trying and don’t get frustrated when it doesn’t work out right away.

you don’t have to “grow up on street fighter” to see the beauty that is ST.
i started playing it only few months ago. it maybe old to you, but it’s new to me.
