can you do this in GGXX?

shrug Eh… you’re probably right. My home networking skills are crappy so I wouldn’t doubt it.
sigh again how does wat i watch have anything with wat i play? i play
guiltygear because of its fast gameplay character balance and amount of
depth it has. the look is just a plus seriously, i wouldnt care if it looked like
street fighter. and yes i am starting to play melty blood but not because of
the look, but because of the gameplay. i dont have fun playing snails speed
pokefest fighters or broken ass games like marvel.
buuuuuut you do watch anime, correct???
…PWNT.
Yeah, he prolly does, but so what? All of these games were made in Japan. All these games have HEAVY anime influences. Seriously. Who cares? I watch some anime on Adult Swim if I feel like staying up past Family Guy/Robot Chicken, but MvS was my first fighting game, and I play 3S. And so what?
Saying “oh, they like anime so they play these JAPANESE games” applies to every fighting game that isn’t Mortal Kombat. It’s a STUPID thing to say. For a game about throwing fire balls, spikey hair, school girls and ninjas…lotsa people here sure do seem to try and say Street Fighter isn’t anime-ish. It’s a stupid reason to even comment on Guilty Gear.
lol why is it that when all SF people try and criticize guilty gear or
melty blood all they can say is the characters look like anime or
only anime lovers like it. and yea i do like anime, but i still am not
seeing how that has anything to do with if a game is good or not
in my eyes.
That’s not what i was saying. I’m merely pointing out that about 98% of gg player watch anime.
And why can’t you ever present a decent arguement? I didn’t say anything about people playing japanese games. In fact, anyone old enough during the nes/sega era played mostly jap games.
I’m not criticizing guilty gear. I didn’t say anything about the gameplay or the game itself. All i stated was the fact that gg players play it becuase it looks like an anmie. And i know for a fact that’s what first attracted a lot of them to the game.
I find that most people who play games like gg just because it looks like an anime aren’t very good at it…they usually already like fighting games a lot or else they would be just happy mashing away without really learning the game.
You just totally whiffed the point. Hate to tell you, but probably 95% of fighting gamers period watch anime, or have at one point or another. Hell, probably 95% of Americans have, period.
Really, it’s simply stupid to bring it up.
I wasn’t attracted to GG because it looked like an anime. I was attracted to GG because people said it was a damn good game. I didn’t even see it in-action before I bought it. And really, nobody here plays a fighting game because it looks like an anime. Do you actually believe that? If you do you shouldn’t even comment further.
In my uni we have an Anime & Manga society and they ALL play GG. I tried to get them into 3rd Strike, CvS2 and XI but nah. Most of them aren’t that good either and they all play on pads. They were shocked when I showed them my stick.
…And you should be. Whipping your stick out like that in public, for shame.:bluu:
All kidding aside, back in my Japanese culture club, about a year and a half ago when I first started getting into 3rd strike (and was still playing on a pad at the time), me and someone else who posts on this site decided to play a few matches. Very few people even cared to watch. One girl asked to try and he took it extremely easy on her since all she was doing was pressing lp and lk.
But when I threw in Tekken 5, that’s when people started crowding around to watch and asking if they could try. Apparently all they cared about was how user-friendly it was and the fact that you could play as a kangaroo or bear.
As far as GG is concerned, the ones who recommended it to me were clearly hardcore anime fans but I never got to see if they were actually skilled at it.
There was one guy in my other club though who played me in GG and 3rd Strike and he was damned good at both ('inspired me to get much better). He never showed any hints of being into anime, just an avid game player.
Most people on Srk can agree that guilty gear is one of those nonfranchise company fighters that is good (the non snk, namco, capcom). i myself have watched anime before…look at my avatar!!! i however only watched DBZ, Gundamwing, and vandread…i actually like the drawing in anime as well…I was a tekken streetfighter head long before it came out…so yeah i picked it up and it is very anime but it was pretty fun…back when ggx2 came out i had 4 friends i played with…out of those 3 watched anime and they loved it…the one who didnt thought it was so so but then he stopped playing it.
I thought this thread is called why us gamers dont play new 2d fighters. The reason i believe is lack of players in area and the most important one is that most gamers dont want to start at the ‘‘Scrub level’’ again. So they stick with their CVS2s, MVC2s, and tekken. I still havent played a new real time strategy cause im stuck on starcraft and warcraft 3!!!
I like guilty gear somewhat…i still play it too (probably cause my friend does) but i really dont care for the engine that much. I just prefer the SNK and Capcom style of fighters. Honestly im starting to find out that i play them less as well…cause everyone that plays i have to travel at least an hour to get to…
melty blood, naruto, DBZ titles, yu yu whatever, inuyasha, fist of the north star, and guilty gear are heavy anime based. I own 2 DBZ games…and hell yeah i loved playing through them…i played it casually with some friends as well…but as far as practicing and entering tourneys for it…hell naw!!!
Man Justin watches as much anime as I do (which is alot trust me) and he’s not even remotely into GG. Hell, I am into GG but I play much everything else too.
I BET YOU WATCHED ALL OF DBZ CALIAGENT, DON’T LIE >:O!
The truth.
I would point out 2 major troubles that are not the benefit to 2D fighting games imo:
-There is hardly renewal of players.
The core of 2D gamers grew up and learned with street fighter 2 era,it is really a temporal community. That part of the population is roughly between 20 and 30 i guess, and as time goes by i guess people will keep on playing, some will stop, but few new players will take on 2d fighters.
Nowadays, teens grow up with other fighting games, you see the ones i mean.
-Too many 2D fighters were “replaced” .
i think too many games are nowdays left away because it’s said they are old, broken, others are more evolved.
i think many games should have stayed in the player’s minds some references of fighting “genre”.
Amen this Cavern Mantis guy hits it right on the nail…
Every year at San Diego Comic Con SDTekken hosts a gaming room + tournament (which is usually Tekken of course). They have most of the fighting games in the room so whatever game you wanna play you can play. A whole fucking mess of anime dorks came in and just started playing GGXX. Some even came by during the day dressed as them. And they were not good. Just pointing that out. And from my experience if you’re a dork you play GGXX or SSBM.
And I don’t mean dork in any negative way but it’s just easy to label them like that.
yeah everyone has seen an anime before…BUT my point was that 98% of GG players watch anime, NOT anime watchers play GG.
Players relly don’t care about new games. My arcade had some extra money to blow off on some new fighting games, but when I asked the local players and SRK peeps what they wanted nobody responded, so we ended up not getting shit.
The SRK hate for GG is just gotta stop. Stop reaching for an excuse not to play the game. Watching anime has no relevance to GG.
