Lets ban every top tier character ever.
this thread is a perfect example of why srk sucks
No one is forcing you to post.
She has freakishly low health. If you can’t snap her in and take her out before she before the 5 bars come into effect with a small combo + Super in a game as fast and forgiving as MARVEL 3, then you probably shouldn’t bother playing the game… :shake:
Once dark phoenix comes out, its over
It’s all about luck at that point hahahaha
…Because she’ll come after you!!! Stare
have you seen her tits
We need to tell everyone who lost at Evo to not bother with this game.
why is oni banned omg???
By all means, prove us wrong instead of vague claims of how killing her only involves luck.
She does massive damage. Has massive priority. Has a teleport. Has amazing chip damage.Has traps. Has tricky guess-wrong-once-and-die-mixups. Can make any player incredible just cuz she’s phoenix.
All in all. She’s a boss character who has everything xD
IDK what anyone say. tiger trade forward roundhouse into ultra was most broken shit in the history of gaming.
She isn’t banned so I can win more tournaments.
This game would have had a much more interesting life if people weren’t all like “uh nah man, we ain’t smashboards, banning is for scrubs”.
Anyways the MvC3 community has been a joke. We let BS characters like phoenix run around, we allow dumb glitches that dumb down the game even more, but we arbitrarily decide to ban shit like the quiksilver glitch.
This thread should have been left to die. Anyway, this thread was made before Metaknight was banned in smash, so your argument is invalid anyway. I see no reason to ban pheonix, but there is a certain annoyance that occurs. If that is where you are weak, practice playing against pheonix. Or, learn pheonix to learn the weakpoints, then apply that to your competitive strategy. Done, Pheonix problem solved.
I’ll humor you.
I actually played phoenix for a bit to see what was up. The character has no weakpoints. Snap mixups are the best way to deal with her but she has the necessary tools to escape all of them(teleport, airdash up salty ball or J.2H, or super). When you play against a phoenix team, you’re both playing a different game with the odds heavily in the phoenix player’s team. On one side, you cannot use meter(thats what they say, but when you can build 3 bars in one combo, spending 1 or 2 to kill the opponents best character is pretty easy, especially when you get a 50/50 mixup on the next character and get a chance to build 1.5-3 more bars), on the other side, you’re spending meter to get an attempt at killing her.
That’s not all. Spending meter on phoenix means you are effectively neutering yourself as much or even more than the phoenix player. He can use meter to kill your character if he wants. You can’t. You HAVE to snap her in because phoenix in the back with 5 meters means you’re playing a dice game where you have 2 dice and she has 5. So not only do you have the best anchor in the game, she is also a deterrent to killing your other characters. You see how commentators always say “oh this could come back to haunt him” when players don’t kill a character or drop a combo? Phoenix pretty much guarantees that
Moving on, even when you manage to snap phoenix and kill her, victory is not guaranteed. The other guy has 2 characters loaded with meter, while you’ve probably used up all your resources to kill her. Two characters left, in a game where half of the characters are capable of OCVing with XF on deck, means you’ve spent all your resources for the lesser of 2 evils, and even getting her dead before she has 5 bars doesn’t mean shit.
Let’s not forget the psychological pressure on the non-phoenix player. It is not the figment of my imagination. It is real, and it is present and it fucks a lot of shit up. On one side, you need to get the first clean hit, get a successful snap mixup early, then fend off the remaining 2 chars(the easier part, but still fucking hard). On another side, you can just be content with laming it out, building meter by blocking, using your characters as meatshields, etc. The only thing you have to do is not get opened up too quick. Even if you do, it’s not that bad. Situations that would otherwise be 50/50s can be avoided by 88, teleport, or super. If you’re good at blocking, even better, all you gotta do is block, throw 3 tracking balls, set some dumb ass traps, and hard tag SAFELY.
Now, we have been talking about phoenix a lot. Problem is, she’s not alone. She has goons with her who can and WILL fuck you up. Dangerous goons that you cannot kill for fear of giving phoenix meter. Dangerous goons that you have to let live to attempt killing her. Dangerous goons that can destroy your team even after all that hard work to kill phoenix. Dangerous goons that can seal the match the moment you get hit ONCE.
Now this wouldn’t be so bad if meter was harder to gain. But it isn’t. TAC, TAC combos, long ass combos, chip damage, resets, blocking all mean that one clean hit is generally enough to decide the match in a non phoenix vs phoenix team. "But Nini, can’t non phoenix teams use TACs and long ass combos to build meter and get more resources to fight phoenix?"Yeah they can. But you are forgetting the psychological pressure. What does a phoenix player have to gain/lose by using a TAC? He gets 1/8 or 1/4 or 1/2 closer to victory per successful TAC. What does he lose if he gets countered? Not much, smart phoenix players will TAC at the end of the combo. A non phoenix player gains a lot of extra meter. What does he have to lose? A chance to snap phoenix in. See how skewed this system is? Long ass combos are the same. There is absolutely no downside to using them for a phoenix team. A non phoenix team however has to worry about the damage/meter gain ratio. If you do a too long combos, chances are the phoenix team is getting a lot of meter as well, and you are setting yourself up for a very tough time, where you have only one or two opportunities to snap and kill her.
So in the end, what is a phoenix team?
best anchor in the game
totally different win condition(in the execution at least)
easier win condition
point character kill deterrent
2 dangerous goons
strong psychological pressure applied
resource waster for the other team
shuts down a lot of alternative teams(aka not rushdown)
Phoenix has done nothing for the game except dumb it down, make the metagame very phoenix centric(you better be playing phoenix or have a way of dealing with her)and make the game look like a joke.
I stand by what I said that this game would have had a more interesting life if Jean was out of the equation. I am sorry but if you think “Done, Phoenix problem solved” is actually possible, you need to go see a shrink or actually play this game.
Why do you think so many people are hype for Ultimate and are gonna give the game a chance again? Because it fixed some of the main problems in MvC3, phoenix being the first and foremost one.
Nini it the Phoenix matchup on the head.
Its totally un acceptable that even by successfully snaping and killing Phoenix you have gimped your resources to the point where you are still behind.
If you don’t kill Phoenix you are at a galactic disadvantage.
If you do snap and kill Phoenix you are at a big disadvantage.
Somethings wrong when both outcomes are good for the Phoenix team.
I love the posts from people who have never touched Brawl and are making fun of Smash Boards. Seriously, Metaknight is worse than Phoenix. Phoenix was intentionally made a glass cannon. She has obvious strengths and weakness and strategies to beat her (though they aren’t full proof). Metaknight strait up has too many advantages over the rest of the cast. It’s also much easier for Metaknight to overcome what few disadvantages he has than for the other player to exploit them.
But back to Phoenix. I hate her just as much as everyone else. But she’s legal in tournaments so I just deal with it as best as I can. I also hate DHC glitch and wish that wasn’t allowed but it isn’t banned so I learned how to do it. There are other random fair characters that I hate playing against but there’s no reason to ban them so I learned to deal with them.
Because this is “MAHVELL BAYBEE” we don’t ban broken shit, we find it and abuse it to our hearts content.
Seriously though, Viscant already touched up upon this some time back. Dark Phoenix needs to be broken to actually work, if not, then it’s just not worth it to have to save 5 meters and use a one shot glass cannon.
I’m not laughing. No weakpoints is BS. If that was the case EVERYBODY would use Phoenix.
Oh yeah, I’m sorry I mispelled that, I typed it on my phone while I was on a bus, and I disabled autocorrect as you want to type anything remotely technical it has no idea what you are talking about. I guess a misspelling automatically makes me either a troll or a dumb@$$ who has never played the game. I have made sure to (hopefully) type everything in this post to please you. Next time realize that I am human, and I am flawed. I make mistakes, I’m sure you do too, if not, I apologize for calling you out.
I played Smash somewhat competitive before and played many hacks and mods of brawl as well. He wasn’t that bad to me, he’s almost making up for Jiggs’ nerf in brawl as we now have a character equally annoying. Sure, he agitated me as Pheonix does now, but that doesn’t mean I rant about it and hate the game. There are top players that don’t play Phoenix, and there are terrible players that play phoenix(just like with brawl, there were top meta knights, and top low tier players, one of the best people I knew mained bowser in brawl). I play games to have fun(which is why I got out of smash for the most part, it no longer became fun). I don’t play Phoenix, and the DHC is fair game to me, of course, I am one to use reasonable glitches in any game. For example, I speedrun video games, and I find it entertaining to break and abuse games to complete them within the shortest time possible. Sure, some glitching is cheating and I can understand where they come from, but I don’t necessarily have to agree. I see where you all are coming from, Phoenix is a pain we have all shared, but it still needs to be analyzed from the other end.
First and Foremost: I DO NOT PLAY AS PHOENIX. I’m just someone who prefers to take things into consideration.
But, if Pheonix really is that unbalanced and overpowered, why doesn’t everyone use her? It’s simple, if it was the case, people would all do it. It’s just like any other argument I’ve ever been involved in, people argue but don’t act themselves. The fact is, if Phoenix is better and unfair, tell me, why you all don’t use her?
If you can logically answer that question with reason(that means logical and convincing, no “Because she’s overpowered BS” if that was the case I would use her, not avoid her), I will rest my case and let you go on with your ideas and I will side with you, if not, I will continue to believe that a ban is not the answer.
Now please, entertain me. Tell me why you don’t all use such an invincible character, change my opinion on why banning a character is OK.
I await your responses.
