Good job SRK for reading this guy’s post. I think he specifically said SPECIAL ATTACKs, not normal attacks.
I honestly think Capcom has tried to give Guile new specials in the past during their betas/alphas/whatever. But in doing so, makes it makes Guile too good or broken. I still haven’t figured out what kind of special move they could give Guile that wouldn’t break him. He has such little recovery on the sonic boom that if you give him some kind of new special, it could break the sonic boom and they would have to give sonic boom more recovery, which would suck. About the only thing I could think of is maybe give him some kind of command grab. But then blocked sonic boom > command grab might get a little cheap.
It’s really hard to give Guile anything else because capcom got him right the first time. I do think he needs something to stop crossups in SF4. About the only thing he has is focus backdash. He also needs to be able to combo to his ultra as easy as everyone else.
Appreciate it, that actually makes the most sense. I really never had any ideas for new special moves for him either but I had just wondered why he was the ONLY one. I can’t wait to get a hold of him in SFIV, his Super into his Ultra is just plain awesome :bgrin:
Well the point I was trying to make with my post(without being an asshole) was that guile has everything he needs. He can control horizontal and vertical space.
On what Gilley said; Im really thinking his Ultra is for stand alone use. It seems it’s best to use in fireball wars, just like ex fk.
Kinda like chuns but you have to be in sweep range.
i like guiles design as is but there have been times i wished he had more specials. just like gilley i thought of a command grab but unlike gilley i thought it would be useless as i couldnt think of a cool grab to give him  part of me wanted him to have a counter but oh well
Maybe Guile could have a grab like Zangief/E.Honda that uses a 360 rotation, or whatever. It’s the only thing that would make sense, but Guile has an air grab, and giving him more grabs would probably make him “overpowered”.
Guile needs a better ultra that does more damage, and that can actually connect, and he will be fine.
guile doesn’t need a new move… his design in SF4 is good, it’s just that his frames, priorities and damage are bad…
but if you really want to tweak him, there is a simple solution. in fact, I have always wondered why they never did it before, because Tekken’s Marshell Law has something similar.
make it so you can control Guile’s Flash Kick arc. d,ub+k would make his flask kick go slightly backwards, d,u+b would make his flash kick go straight up, and d,uf+k would make it go forward. Kick strength will only affect the damage and height of the Flash Kick. This may help against Guile’s biggest weakness in SF4 which Gilley mentioned, his vulnerability to cross ups. Considering how almost everyone else in the game has an escape method, I think it would be fair.
You need a new dealer; your crack is bad.
His frames are fine, priority is dangerous, and his damage is good. Perhaps the Guile players in your area haven’t broken through yet.
They could give him an advancing overhead kick that may hop over projectiles. Just turn Somersault Kick upside down and move him in a rainbow motion. Excecuted by **,f+K.
I’ve playing ST way more than I play CE pal since thats what in competition. Never did I complain in the SF4 thread that he wasn’t CE Guile, I mostly talked about how shity his Flash Kick is and having to play him on shitty P 360 sticks. Let me remind you that those guys are SF2 players not SF4 players and they used Guile to win since he was one of the strongest characters, besides well rounded of the SF2 series, I mean thats great that they inspire you as they did for me in SF2, but I am sure Watson would even tell you that Guile is very weak(doesn’t suck though just very weak) in SF4 if he did play it, but hes retired now. So far I haven’t seen anyone in the U.S. or Japan win a tournament with Guile, nor do they hardly even use guile in tournament. So please stop going around like the forum troll you are talking shit about me and joining the band wagon like ramza. If I were you I would pick up a strong character like sagat as a back up plan if you are attempting to win a tournament.
The game hasn’t even been out a year (hell, the console version isn’t even out yet, just think of all the players who haven’t gotten a chance to spend time with the game due to that). Before we all start saying Guile sucks, give it a little time. Sure it takes a bit more work to win with him, but its been proven that his Flash Kick is still decent and that he still has good normals.
Charlie and Remy both had new moves, neither broke the character, I personally think that giving him specials for movement options allowing for more Zoning abilities to enhance what kind of play style he already has without breaking him:
Make his back dash a longer distance and faster.
Faster forward dash.
A 46 kick command for something with forward movement, and a 28P for some backwards movement would be awesome, especially with Balrogesque charge maintinance from the 28p. Things that wouldn’t necessarily be useful for damage, but give an even greater advantage in controling space!
Or to go overboard one could do things like Aerial SB, teleport, or other random silliness that would overpower/break him.
Lol @ guile teleport… hop on a boom and fly awaaaaay!
To be honest I was hoping for one of four things with guile.
Cold blue kick
High - low booms
Moonsault kick (that mvc2 upside down aerial flashkick, wasn’t that good but i thought it was cool)
Sonic Hurricane
As gilley mentioned though some things would just break him. Jab booms are already semi-difficult to neutral jump over, so a “high” one would be rough… unless you could duck under it… maybe that wouldn’t be too broken? Well… I DO know that the one move i wanted most, remy’s cold blue kick, would have been CRAZY broken as a jab boom followup. I think that moonsault would have been interesting and not horribly broken givin the current build. It would just give him sort of a yun-style dive-kick rush-down… thing… maybe… (?)
Sonic hurricane… it just looks cooler than somersault justice. I don’t think it could be combo’d any easier than the current ultra. In CvS2 you could combo it off a c.mk with some difficulty, but given ultra’s startups… not a chance in hell.
Yeah I swear. One or two half literate guys respond first and the whole SF4 jock brigade comes along for the ride. I can count the amount of people who actually read what the damned OP said on one hand and probably have finges to spare.
(I’ve always thought this, but someone mentioned this earlier) I’m thinking a Makoto-like move would be great for him. I forget what it’s called, but it’s her SF3 areal special, and what Charlie had in the vs. series. I think this (especially if it’s an overhead) would help his pressure game. Timed correctly you could close distance and it would give him reliable mixup capabilities. With the correct properties (so as to not make him too broken) I think this would make him complete.
