Cap does more of the same tho, at least KOF XI, Tenkaichi and NGBC, etc are new games.
actually 2 of those are sequels
so your saying SvC Gayhoas is a great game? :wtf:
so as expected this thread turns into a moronic trollfest

My loyalty is with Capcom. Not hating on SNK, but the quality of capcom fighters is better IMO.
Plus creating excellent games in other genres such as Resident Evil and Megaman helps too.
Personally, I think the “elite”–and expensive–Neo Geo was part of the problem. When we were younger, my friends and I couldn’t drive to the arcade and couldn’t often rustle up money…but we could go over to the home of the one guy who had SF2 on his SNES, and play there. King of Fighters? Art of Fighting? Fatal Fury? We’d never heard of those games. If they were in the arcade they were overshadowed by SF2 (and, later, Mortal Kombat), and they were completely inaccessible to us at home.
The older players, I think, mostly gravitated toward SF2 rather than SNK’s offerings, probably because it came first. The younger players, who were focused on console versions of the games, gravitated toward SF2 because they didn’t know about SNK’s offerings.
SNK did a good job of winning itself a devoted group of core customers, but I think that by catering to them exclusively SNK made its games inaccessible, and to some extent entirely unknown, to most of the US market.
resident evil devil may cry yadda yadda
pretty simple dont need to think too hard
fob = “Fresh off the boat”, IIRC.
Well what you say is true, but remember there were SNK fighters ported to the SNES and the Genesis (FF1, FF2, FFS, SS1, AOF, WH1, WH2, etc.), while not perfect ports (then again the SF2 ports weren’t perfect either for the 16 bit machines) they were still there and accessible.
*Cues Duck King’s BGM from FFS  "
Capcom fighters are better, look better play better, everything better.
Neo Geo, couldnt compete accept with Samarai Showdown… Great game.
For looks, Garou, Last Blade series, and Samurai Shodown series have all been really nice looking games for their time, and considering the shitty ass hardware they ran on, that’s an accomplishment.
Gameplay is a matter of opinion, especially since there exists a large number of broken Capcom fighters (no one plays NG or 2I anymore, do they) that conveniently no one remembers when an arguement of quality and balance comes up.
Just playing devils advocate. This thread turned into “Gaycom vs. SNGay 29847394857” pretty quickly anyway.
Unfortunately, there are alot of baised opinions showing up in this thread.
But that’s OK, we all love what we love, right?
having access to games helps
the Street Fighter II cabinets outnumbered the Neo Geo cabinets at the arcades I’ve been back in the day.
for each arcade I’ve been during the early 90’s, there was only 1 cabeinet that had Neo Geo games on 'em. While the place had 3 different Street Fighters,a Mortalk Kombat II, a Virtua Fighter II and a Killer Instinct in there.
For some reason, after that period, some arcades stopped carrying thoe Neo Geo cabinets
my point is not about better or worse… it’s about accessiblity… if you don’t have access to certain games, you can’t really favor them.
today in 2006, even the internet has given us "different’ ways to access SNK and countless other arcade games… it’s too little too late for some gamers who strutted their stuff at arcades in the early 90s and began with SF2 as their 1st harcore fighter.
Do you ever post anything on SRK that doesn’t elevate yourself above the rest of us plebians as a side-effect? You’re sooooo metal.
thats true, i remember back in 1995-1996, at all of the arcade places/pizzarias there was either xmen children of the atom, marvelsuper heroes, or the newly released xmen vs street fighter. and then to go along with one of those machines were games liek crusin usa, mortal kombat ultimate, nba jam, but there was one pizzaria i recall having samurai showdown, it was next to the marvel super heroes machine…only a couple people would play it, the crowd would always be around the marvel super heroes machine.
people forget that for capcom, streetfighter wasn’t that important.
They’d been kicking ass since way before then with other titles, and continued to own it up in the 3d era. Only TWO game companies have ever challeneged them, konami, and square, both of which spanked them but it took a fight.
SNK, well outside of fighters did jack shit. Where is their megman, where is ghouls and ghosts, where is resident evil?
Capcom spans a ton of genres and is a stable brand, they aren’t dependant on 2d fighters, SNK is.
Granted it’s not fun to look at, but outside of streetfighter, capcom fucking rocks the house and has some great titles, SNK, well, errr, umm… errr… has metal slug
Look at a NeoGeo library. They did a LOT more than just fighters.
But that doesn’t matter. It’s true, they’re not doing much more now than fighters, and it’s not like the US would care for Twinkle Star Sprites.
SNK did terrible in the US, and really well everywhere else. That’s basically what it all boils down to.
SNK not being popular in the U.S is completely stupid and incomprehensible
people here are complaining that “snk was not popular because street fighter 2 was better than fatal fury and Art of fighting, and because they had Mortal Kombat and killer instinc instead”.:wtf: :lame:   shit, stupid.
From where I come from, for some one that is in the fighting genre, If you haven’t really played king of fighters(snk games) and street fighter(capcom games), you haven’t really played fighting games at all.
What!? I won’t say any of the games play badly (because they fuckin’ don’t) but they were nowhere near the nicest looking games of their time.
For a company that put NOTHING into their US division you think they’d still be a giant in the industry. Enix ignored the US and for that reason wasn’t accepted over here, they didn’t go bankrupt.
And please don’t say look at their catalog like it in any way compares to Capcom, even though that is the point of this thread.
Besides the Metal Slug series which turned to shit, I don’t think SNK had anything close to a solid franchise outside fighters since the early ninties.
Like what? And how about an example of an unbaised opinion?
