It’s…too…real dies
Finally, someone put my thoughts into words…
Thank you.
If you didn’t feel where he was coming from, you ain’t a true gamer.
But there is a difference of saying a game is slightly more than a game and becoming zealous and melodramatic about it.
By the way, without Super Mario, there would be NO CONSOLE GAMES!!!
Oh, and 80% of the world doesn’t care about the Street Fighter community.
There are harsh realities to some things, and the reality is that Thongboy’s post is one of the most overly dramatic, borderline religious examinations of street fighter ever. And it’s this mindset that makes people not want to join the community in the first place.
good post.
Bye.
Is that it? Is that the best you can do? Have you contributed any valid points to destroy my argument? Or are you content that you have successfully proven that when you don’t argree with someone the best you can do is offer a monosyllabic response, because lower primates can do that.
There’s nothing harsh about anything you’ve said. In fact, it’s merely your opinion. Wow! It’s the passion that keeps folks away? lol
dude, keep going. Your adding humor to this and I, for one, thank you.
It’s hilarious how you call your opinion an argument and challenge folks to argue back when all they can really tell you is that you don’t get it. I mean, do you put this much effort into arguing when someone finds someone attractive that you think is repulsive? lol, you’re more mental than anything Thongboy posted.
Let’s see how long it takes you to realize that you just can’t get it. Why bother posting? It’s easy enough to explain if you’re even semi-intelligent. It’s about passion for a hobby. If you’ve never had that, you wouldn’t get it. If you have, apply the mentality elsewhere and you might get it. Otherwise, keep “arguing.”
What was your point again? Oh, that someone is wierd? I find it more wierd that you’d beat your head against the wall this way.
Apoc.
Since you asked: You have a valid point, and far be it from me to attempt to change someone’s opinion. You (I could be wrong) don’t seem to grasp the true meaning of the original post. That’s fine.
According to your profile, you're 21-22, and you signed up to this site five days ago. I would not expect you to have the same reverence for the SF community as many of us do. Its just a game, yes. If you break it don't to its basic components. But, under the surface, when you get deeper into the idea of SF, it brings ppl together. My local arcade closed back in Sep '04 (Wizzards Arcade, for those that have heard of it), and there are many ppl I met that I now consider true friends. From all walks of life. 80% of the friends I have were met in a gaming atmosphere. Since Wizzards closed, there are simply ppl I don't see anymore. John Choi and Ricky O came to a number of tourney here. I met Apoc, Valle, Seth Killian, Dream TR, those goddamn Nebraska boys (parrying asses! :) at MWC. Because of the comradre of gaming, I travelled with the friends I made gaming. Michigan was 30+ deep that year (2002, I believe). Find an non-sports avenue that could get 30+ regular joes to travel.
In conclusion, I am not trying to destroy your argument. Its your argument. Seeing as how every post you have made has been in this thread, and you seem ready to pick and mantain an online argument, I get the impression you can't be reasoned with. Fine. Your views and opinions mean very little to me, just for the simple fact I don't know you.
You stated, and I quote " And it's this mindset that makes people not want to join the community in the first place." With you saying that, why are you here? You took the time to read/skim over TB's post, and trivialize it. Why? With your mindset, it shouldn't have been worth the keys you used to type it. You should have been above it. You should have been above registering to this site. With that said, are you above responding you my post?
You have differing opinions, that’s fine. But try not to piss on what someone else believes, ok?
LOL! and your “argument” is better because you utilized many syllables? haha
You’ve made a valid point regarding a subjective view, have you? Wait, no you haven’t.
I’m just playin’ dude. Don’t take it personally. You are looking like a fool though when you call your opinion an argument.
Apoc.
Wait. SF Jedi Master? That’s broken, Apoc.
Sci-fi Jedi Master.
What?
heheh sgoin’ on Big!
Apoc.
A) You are confusing me with another poster about the wierd comment.
B) I play Street Fighter and enjoy it so much so that I do consider it a hobby rather than a passing form of entertainment.
C) What I find “repulsive” is the zealotry of every one on this thread except Xero Kaiser. Wait, let me define zealotry:
fanatic outlook or behavior especially as exhibited by excessive enthusiasm, unreasoning excessive intolerance of opposing views, or wild and extravagant notions on some subject.
Alright so lets see. . .
- The comparison of a Street Fighter player to an artist is a slightly fanatical viewpoint, so is “we are the closest thing to Fight Club”
- Apoc has proven that he has an intolerance to my “beliefs”
- Apparently you clowns think that passion alone will move the community along. Well, news flash, LOVE OF THE GAME ISN’T GOING TO KEEP THE STREET FIGHTER COMMUNITY FROM DYING OUT! I’ve been a member out here in the Midwest for 7 YEARS (which obviously has nothing to do with my age or my join date), and the community out here is the equvilent of a 20 year old 3 legged dog. Passion isn’t going to keep Ol’ Yeller alive, son. So there was your extravagant notion.
That’s all I have to say for now on that subject. Oh, Apoc that syllable comment wasn’t even directed toward you, so why did you waste your and my time addressing it? Fight your own battles.
yo apoc…gonna need some contact come july ill be in vegas for a week man… need you to let me know where the spots are…
Hello.
Which SF do you play?
N
Congratulations, you have stated your opinion can you just leave the thread now? Why do you have to shit all over a perfectly good thread, can’t you take a note from Xeno Kaiser and just say what you want then just leave the thread. You are on a forum filled with people that love street figher some of the people that frequent the board have stopped playing SF but just come here because this is what they know and love. You could ask anyone of them why they feel that street fighter is more than a game instead of coming in here and talking down to anyone who disagrees with your stance that thinking that SF is more than a game is stupid.
Also, good job on calling people clowns, that will make them pay attention to you and respect you opinion.
Fight my own battles? lol a battle of opinions? Wow…just…wow.
I didn’t compare sf to art. I’m not going to bother clearing up your confusion. It’s more fun this way.
Where was I intolerant? Because I’m laughing at you? Dude, the word for my emotion with regard to your opinion would be “apathy.” Not only am I tolerating your opinion but I’m tolerating your posts! Can’t you tell? I’m replying, afterall.
I lived in the midwest. Scene was never all that big to begine with. What notion could you be talking about? I have firsthand experience of the scene there. Hell, I played at SJG when Jayson McClellan ran it. I ran tourneys there too.
Passion with regard to a hobby is clearly beyond your comprehension level.
Also, passion is what got SF to go as long as it has. You can’t be that numb. Oh wait! It must be because of all the new and great SFs being released. Yup, that must be what keeps it going.
Newsflash, I’ve weathered the “dying of SF” many times only to see it resurrected stronger. Read:never really died…ever. As a matter of fact, the scene itself isn’t dead, the scene as it was is pretty close. It’s “evolved” into something less than what it was. It will keep going as the lame scene it seems to be now. I would just rather it be something worth being a part of again. Oh wait, I’m acting like you’ll know what to make of what I’m saying. NM.
Please keep posting! You aren’t giving me nearly enough ammunition, lol.
Apoc.
Someone who is devoid of their own opinion and does nothing but jock Apoc because “OMG HE IS OG PLAYER #1!!!” is a c-l-o-w-n.
Well, when one states an argument (i.e. that the tone of this thread is ZEALOUS), one usually expects a realisation of the argument, points for or against it, etc. Then a conclusion is made.
I have proven in my last post using the very defenition of zealotry that this is a zealous thread. I have heard no points against that argument and thusly we have reached this point. I am not patronising anyone, I am merely waiting for someone to agree with me or prove me wrong. Apoc tried and failed.
I guess it is zealous. Depends on whom you ask I guess. But it all goes back to the part where you don’t get it and we do. I just wish you had the “PRIVILEGE of wisdom to listen” when guys told you the first time.
In an ordinary context it probably qualifies as zealotry, especially for the hardest of hardcore (there are degrees of intensity even amongst us who “get it”)…
…but you’re on a site that is expressly dedicated to SF. Where else in the world might you expect to see such words except on this very site?
I guess you registered just to badmouth? I dunno. To each their own.
A) You must not be able to read! Here, let me put in all caps so you can understand:
THE “FIGHT YOUR OWN BATTLES” COMMENT WAS MADE BECAUSE YOU REPLIED TO A POST THAT WASN’T ADDRESS TOWARD YOU!!! YOU MADE A COMMENT ON MY QUIP TO HOLLOW, WHO IS NOT APOC, AND TOOK TIME TO INSULT ME. THAT IS A CLOWN MOVE. ALSO IT WAS OBVIOUSLY THE FIRST POST THAT COMPARED STREET FIGHTER PLAYERS TO ARTISTS.
B) If you were apathetic then YOU WOULD NOT REPLY. Congratulations, you have also proven you have no idea what apathy means.
C) You know something funny, in your attempts to show how different you are than me, you just said something I agree with. Aside from the seeing the scene “resurrected,” I agree with that last major paragraph of yours. Could it be that you have no idea what I’m talking about? Oh wait, you have Top Player Syndrome (TPS for circle of understanding) Some symptoms include: being an asshole to “n00bs,” having an undeserved sense of accomplishment, and being a self-aggrandising jackass because you are the skill at such-and-such game.
I must be feeding you blanks, son, because you haven’t hit me yet.
