Why I Love Street Fighter

Good Read.

robot jesus, thongman, mr. i-can’t-slashshoot-worth-a-damn-but-hell-if-i’m-not-trying:

this post is fucking amazing. you’ve touched about every single aspect of the scene i could ever hope to think of and already have thought about.

and a lot of is so obviously me that … well, damn. fuck. i almost cried. :frowning:

it’s about to do the same for me.

That was one of the best posts I’ve ever had the chance to read.

that was beautiful

:lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin:

You took the words I’ve been trying to say to people for years right out of my head. Godspeed my brethren.

good shit. good to see you back

Truth.

AWESOME!! great!!..=)

I do rather enjoy Street Fighter as a means of entertainment. I do not, however, use Street Fighter as a means of spiritually fulfilling myself.

Also, the Street Fighter community is in shambles, especially in the Midwestern riegon of the United States. There are not enough people are willing to lend a hand to those who have less skill than others.

It’s in shambles everywhere. Check out 3s. The arcade 3s players and the console players stand on different ideals on that game, alone.

Do you think SRK will reform? I mean aside from the site running slower(or maybe that’s just me but, I doubt it).

Apoc.

Awesome…

(P.S. I thought you were dead! Glad to see you back in the living world!)

It is true that a consensus must be made on a game so that the knowledge of said game can be transmitted properly. The problem is that there must be an effort to reach that stage. Will the effort be made? It’s doubtful, but one can only hope.

Also, there are some top players who are miserly with thier knowledge, stopping the transmission of skill necessary to keep the community lively. Because if the tournament results are the same for all major events, then how will Joe Everyman ever become a top player? Especially if all the people he plays against regularly cannot hold a candle to the likes of, say Justin Wong.

All this being said I must reiterate my original thesis: Street Fighter is a game, not a substitute for a meaningful existance. Not to say one cannot be remembered as a Street Fighter player, it’s just he won’t be remembered on the same level as an artist.

Beautiful. Saves thread

Props to you.

very nice work.

And yes, we do all appreciate the work you put in for us, it does help us get better and that is what we all strive to do, become better.

If you think about it the life of our beloved ryu is similar to one all competitors in the SF community go on. We play more and more to become stronger, to become better at what we love. We do this for ourselvs, and it makes some of us happy and it keeps some of us captive in a world they wish to leave but can’t because their love for the game is still there.

SF and all types of games make and break people, it’s part of what games are and it is part of what they always will be. There will always be competition on games weither it is SF, Counterstrike or any game that comes in the future. There are cults and communities for all types of games and they all go down the same path that you have or are going through.

We all wish to increase our skills, weither it be in somthing that is for your personal life such as work, or somthing for your life of a gamer or whatever your hobby is.

The people who play all types of cardgames or roleplaying games strive to do the same thing, to become the best you can be at it and to compete with others and show your skill. It all comes down to people’s personalities and as SF players we all do share one part of our existance and personality. The love of the game brings us together as you said, and hopefully it will continue to do so for a long time.

great read.

street fighter has changed me alright.

it has been almost 6 years since mvc2 was released and i was hooked on it yet it still feels like yesterday. there are times where i have wondered why did those 6 years flew by so quickly and had i waste that much time playing street fighter. on the one hand i met a lot good people and became friends with most yet on the other hand, it feels stagnant. i still find myself playing street fighter out of the blue and i cant stop going on SRK.

i still cant believe how 6 has passed since i started playing street fighter competitively

That was long and strange. I’ve been playing street fighter since I was 8 years old (not so much now though), but it’s never been anything more than a game to me.

You people are strange :wonder:

My sentiments exactly.

I find it more strange how ppl can spend so much time with one game and say it’s just a game. Spend that much time with a woman and…she’s probably your wife. Spend that much time with a book and it becomes a religion. Spend that much time looking at anything and it becomes art. Spend that much time on a job and it’s a career…

Yeah, it’s just a game but, it’s also competition. Nothing really competitive is just a game, it’s a competition. If you don’t get the competition part and it never goes past “just a game,” you might as well classify yourself in the group of those that just don’t get it.

Super Mario is just a game.

On top of all of that is the community and rivalries that surpass the rivalries in most sports.

Put it this way; No one cares about the players of JUST a game. Strangely enough, SF history is documented by those in and out of the community. Who were the top mario players a decade ago? Who were the best rpg players a decade ago?

Does SRK really stand for “stupid retarded kids” now? lol

Calling it just a game is stating the obvious. By itself, it’s just a game. Add in the players and it’s something far more. Gaming is a hobby but SF is a hobby all by itself. I know. Ask anyone that knows me if I give a crap about a videogame. The last system I owned was DC and that was to test shiet out. I don’t even play games and yet, SF is a hobby of mine. It stands out for many.
