Why I Love Street Fighter

A)still confused about the comparison that was actually made. dumb da dumb dumb.
B)more proven stupidity. I have zero feelings with regard to your opinion. I am posting to fuck with you. If you could comprehend what you read you would realize that although I am replying, it has nothing to do with whether I care about your opinion or not. I’m trolling the troll or, clowning the clown, as you might say.
C)I have made no attempt to show how I am different. That actually SHOULD go without saying. I don’t play games or SF almost at all nowadays. Clearly, it bothers you that you can’t be good:( Again, apathy. I couldn’t care less if you agree with me about anything. You came in here acting like an ass and got treated like one.

Your last line is golden! Too clever. That’s top tier for a moron!

Apoc.

There are people who live and breathe this game, and hat is their choice.

To say that some games are not more then games is only because that particular game is nothing extravigant to you personally.

2d fighters can only come back if we as a community do what we can to unite the different communities like the tekken, SF, SC etc.

SRK can’t do that due to being formerly owned by capcom (i think?) The point is that fighting game communities are spread out all over, and that if we want it to succeed as a whole all of them need to come together in one place so they can share heir love for the type of games we all love. Weither a fighter be 2d or 3d it does not change the fundimentals. The fundimentals are to outsmart your opponent and that the game has hand to hand (minus SC) combat. SF is the pioneer to the genera but that does not mean that the newer titles such as GG and Tekken do not deserve to be part of the community.

Sue the casual gamer plays those too, but that is what is needed. The casual gamer needs to be shown that the communities are here for these types of games. Without new gamers then any genera will fall. Weither it be fighters or FPS or anything else, If the games don’t get enough users the genre is due to fail. The only way to bring fighting games to the forefront is to expose all the other types of gamers to it’s competative nature. That is the reason that most FPS and MMORPG succeed. Without the competative nature of those games online they would have never survived. BL is somthing that allows casual gamers to compete and see SOME of what the community has to offer. Most people don’t know that there are tournements for this type of thing.

The community needs to grow, and i have an idea that will make it happen. You people say some of the new people are “geeks.” Who cares? As long as they provide competition then it should not matter what type of person they are. It has never matterd in the past. People who all they do is play SF is what most people think of now adays as people who are geeks. Gamer is the new term for geek almost all over the world. That won’t change and there is nothing we can do about it.

A Counter Strike community is no different than a fighting game community. They live for the competition, weither it is single or team competition like with clans and such it doesnt matter. The one thing that keeps people playing FPS is the fact that it is competative. Fighting games are competative, but the casual gamer really doesnt know that. That needs to be shown to them if you really want them to understand why they should get into this genre of games. They need to be shown either firsthand or through the activeness of a community within their own that it is fun and can be competative.

Because of most local arcades dying out or having specilty arcades (TGA, FFA, ETC.) it shuns away new users. Also the fact that new people are put right into a scene against some of the best in their area and are not allowed to become better and just quit because it is too hard to overcome someone who has been playing for a year longer then they have. Without people understanding that there are people just like them who want to get better then it is impossible for a dying community and genre to come back to live other then with it’s cultlike following.

Fighting games are not somthing you really play casually. They are somthing people with a competative nature play, just to compete with others and become better. Online games in general do that for people so if we wish to attract a new croud we can not just sit here at SRK and do nothing about those users whom could someday be here being the competition of the future. FPS and fighting games use a similar style of play. They require skill and honing of those skills in order to become better. People like this play to be the best or to atleast become better to be the best in their area or to compete with the best to make them feel like they have some self worth. Without these types of games you would see alot more actual violence in real life communities, somthing that is not good for the world.

We all need to stop sitting here doing nothing. We need to stop bitching and complaining that the scene is not thriving like it was in the 90s. Newsflash arcades are nearly dead minus us hardcore fighting game fans and those DDR players. Without those two types of games arcades would be dead, plain and simple. We are the life and death of the arcade scene. Without us they can’t survive, us pumping in quarters as well as those little kiddies is what makes them continue to operate. Us hardcore gamers do make a difference in some way. The hardcore gamer is what makes a majority of these competative games successfull.

You all need to understand that if we wish to continue to grow, arcades are still necessary, they bring new users and keep entertaining us others. Sure there are consoles but those really don’t get many users, atleast here on SRK or any other fighting game message board. Communities seperate the gaming world. Weither it is fighting games or FPS. The different communities and different games are what keep these games growing… slowly growing for that fact, but growing. If we wish to grow faster we cannot seperate these communities, they need to become one. Tekken, VF, SF, GGXX, DS, SF3, and CVS2 along with others are all seperated community wise. Sure they have their little spots places and some message boards just to cater to those people, but if the community is to grow this can’t be. There needs to be one place that these types of gamers can come together and allow for the community as a whole to grow, not just little factions of it. SRK and Tekken Zaibatsu are the most respected of these types of places, but they alone cannot save fighting games, only hold their demise away for a few years.

I am going to start a big project on which i will need alot of help. I know of some sponsers and such that will allow for it to grow rapidly and become the gaming mecca of the internet. We need to bring all types of gamers together, but we need to make it a point to put fighting games in the forefront in order to gain more exposure. Exposure to other types of gamers is what we need to attract more users, and allow for them to know that we all started out and sucked at one point in time. We need veterains who are willing to teach those new people the basics and more tutorials as well. CV.com needs to be incorperated into a major community not just about the videos them selvs, but about the actual games they are for as well. The best way to show new people high level play is to let them watch combo vids and match vids and make them say “ooh i want to learn how to do that,” THAT is how you interest a majority of the new users. Without these other types of gamers to expose to our culture and competative nature then there is no future for our beloved fighting games. So i am taking it uppon my self to join these different communities into one single place where they can become exposed to one another and for all genre of games to grow, Fighting games being in the forefront of this.

Restating: To grow, we need to expose those who will be willing to try and compete with these types of gameswhile catering to their current needs in the style of game they currently play. This will be a long process, but it can work and will work if done correctly.

Also personally i am sick of having to look for all the different combos, why can’t they all be in one place where there is no other useless conversation? I plan to build a site that the community adds to. Somthing that is run by 5-8 people who are dedicated to the community growing, people to keep the site up to date with all the different information that people have. Simply be doing so allows for easy access to information these new people need to get good, as well as for us veterains who just want to learn another character. There needs to be a place on this site or forum where this info is kept and where users can submit things to be added to these areas.

For those who are interested in seriously helping this community grow then please PM me so we can arrange a meeting between all of us some time next week.

]I know that was long but READ IT, It’s IMPORTANT!!

Please excuse typos and mystypes or missing letters… in ireland on some web TV thing… doesnt work too want.

LOL! I tried to prove you wrong? When? I challenge you to show me where I said anything contradictory to your “zealous” comment. What a dolt!!!

Passion and zeal go hand in hand, dork. That shit went without saying. You’re stupider than I thought! You’re arguing so someone will say, yes, we’re zealous or no, we aren’t zealous? K, no one is going to say the later so, omg! You are so right for stating the obvious.

WAIT! Lemme get some points too! The earth is ROUND! Come on dude! Prove me wrong!

omg you’re more ridiculous than I’ve been giving you credit for. Notice that you’re getting drilled in this thread? Time to make up a new handle maybe?

But it cannot pay our bills. What we put in, we put in out of pure love for the game.
[/Quote]

This was spot on. It’s the love of the game.

You are simply talking out of your ass, man. TPS? Right. pfft… Okay, look. I’m a beginner at fighters in comparison to a lot of top guys. I have a long way to go. But guys on here have encouraged me to become better. They don’t have this cocky attitude and they aren’t stuck up snobs. They DO have accomplishments(or at least I’d say so. Trust me on this…this stuff doesn’t come easy…it takes TIME and PRACTICE.) So what if they have skill? That should be more reason for you to GAIN the skill so you can compete. That’s a big part of why fighting games are successful. There’s always going to people out there better than you, and the games allow you to work your ass off and try to top those people. That’s half the fun.

People love these games. You have to face that. You may not have to agree with it, or love the games yourself, but some people do. I happen to have a love for fighting games. I have since I was 5 years old. The fact is, this is more than a game for many people. If you can’t see that, please stop arguing.

The only accomplishment you’ve had is ruining a great topic. Thanks.

This is a website created with the exact purpose of sharing stories about SF. We are all zealots and freaks. If this is something new for you, don’t post. Use the site and forums as they were intended. Go to the pet store or the humane society if you need a dog to kick.

Edit added:
As for the rebirth of the SF scene, I cannot offer any solutions, but I can state the biggest problem: it’s easier to play competitive games online instead of having to actually be in the same room as someone else. Since SF wasn’t designed for online play, it will never work well in that medium, and it is certainly destined to end. I think it works better in Japan because it’s a much different culture. If you want to save the SF scene in the US, you’ll have to make some basic changes in our society’s “give me what I want right now” attitudes and expectations, which sounds pretty impossible…

Apoc: The Nazis and KKK were zealots. Being a zealot is BAD. Passion entails dilligence, not sitting around going “OMG SF is teh pwnzorz!!!” If you were all really passionate, well go practice and stop giving a fuck about what I’m saying. And if you really, REALLY don’t care about my comments, LET’S AGREE TO DISAGREE!!! OMG!!!

I’m through.

Good fucking read to end the year.

Great job man, keep it up.

I agreed to disagree when you first posted. Also, Christians are zealous too. Try and be less dumb.

see ya!

Apoc.

Are you purposely ignoring the one post that was nice to you, Doctor Who?

N - Your motives are suspect.

Jason you know me and you know im Christian. You know I have never judged you or anyone else because of there belief. Comeon man your better then that.

That being said SF is in my blood now, its something I cant help. I will never be the best, hell I will probably always be a mid tier player. Does that bother me, yeah alittle. I do have a competitive edge and a want to, to be top tier. I however lack the reaction time and have difficulties doing things other SF people deem simple.(IE Custom Combos) It doesnt stop me from trying, even if it makes me look like an idiot because I keep going at it. I may come off arrogant at times and I have certaintly scared people and gotten frustrated at my lack of skill and reaction time. But one thing people can not deny is my unabashed will to keep trying and my love for them game.

When Apoc came to Washington for the short time he was there I probably learned more about SF in those couple of months then I learned in the years before. While other people wanted to just gauck at him or try to kiss his ass, I learned. I sat there and listened to what he had to say, I considered it all even if I thought it was wrong. Did I agree with everything he said, no. But it was always discussed and I can always see his side of the story. IMO I think that is one thing critically lacking now. That basic understand of another mans opinion. Especially one that has been around for awhile and has been to the top and seen the view down. It seems alot of top players today are to lazy to really share there knowledge and to many players trying to get better are to arrogant in believing they know it all. Somewhere is the middle and it seems to get smaller and smaller every year.

If I come off as an ass kisser to Apoc it was not my intention. I just respect what he and the other OS people have to say. Remember above all that knowledge is power, and the pursuit of knowledge can only make one wiser.

Well put.

Excellent.

My apologies, man. I felt that the tone of the earlier post was malicious, and I was evidently wrong.

Anyway, I play Third Strike, Alpha 2 (sometimes Alpha 3), CVS2, and sometimes I’ll dabble in Super Turbo or Hyper Fighting.

holy shit thongboy is still alive

Too bad most of the population would rather whore top tiers and copy what they see in videos.

And you’re being a tool Dr. Who. Are you gonna try to tell a pro basketball player that they shouldn’t take it so seriously? Games mean just as much to some people.
Hell, why do you think professional Starcraft players in Korea are making up to $250, 000 a year?
Obviously, someone cares about them.

And I’d agree if SF were the only game I played. When I said that I’ve played SF since I was 8, I mean a match here and a match there and even then, only with Third Strike now

If I only talked to a girl a few days out of a week every couple of months, I’d say she’s probably NOT my wife.

Of course it’s a competition, that’s why I love fighting games (multiplayer games in general, but usually fighting games). But still, I play it until I get bored, and then I move on. I don’t have any romantic ideas about it

Only on the internet

I don’t know, those were single player games so it’s kind of hard to even make a comparison. Wouldn’t using FPS or RTS or you know…a game where other people are even in a position to witness your skill, make a much better argument?

It must, because I have no idea what you’re talking about. Unless not getting teary-eyed over SF makes me a retard

I’ve never really felt that way about it, that’s all I’m saying

Next time I call people strange, I’m going to put a lot more emotes on the end of it :stuck_out_tongue:

uuuhhh anyway that was an awesome post by thongboy.
