Please stop linking shittaku here, at best they’re the TMZ and Fox News of gaming. putting aside their corruption exposed in the whole gamersgate situation, they’ve just blatantly become a click bait site not caring whether any of their stories or true or not as long a they get hits. Also they steal a lot of content from other places specifically reddit without giving any credit and claiming the work as their own.
Show me a gamer who reads Kotaku and I’ll show you a gamer who will believe Zynga is developing GTA 6.
Respect yourself enough to get your information from more credible sources.
That’s 100% what their Noel Brown story was. ‘Black man mugshot. He plays fighting games. Those are full of scumbags.’
In response to all kinds of criminal activities in other gaming genres by name brand players, yup with females too, of course including FPS/MOBA scenes and streamers that never got press there for their big slipups, that should be the last thing we need to hear about from them, if we ever have to hear any more.
click our own SRK Noel Brown GD thread 10 more times instead. It has everything. You can’t read it all on 1 (typo-ridden neon colored) page!
I’m with you here. Kotaku has a limp wristed left agenda, that even myself as a fairly left leaner groans at. I also personally feel like they do not have the right to publish ANY articles about GG or anything that it entails…obvious conflict of interest. Any yet, they consistently do. Fuck Kotaku.
Always appreciated Jim Sterling, even if I didn’t always agree with him (see: Vanquish review) but he has never shied away from voicing his opinion.
Other than that and some Totalbiscuit stuff I tend to make my own decisions on what to buy and when, using reviews only to gauge what is in store rather than take it as end all be all.
Kind of funny, how I’d rather youtube X game by a random youtuber and see how the game looks, rather than going to IGN or whatever and see what they gotta say.
Gaming Journalist reviews have always been fuck tard stupid, though.
I’m a very strong supporter of gaming journalism and critical reviews, they can be very helpful, entertaining, and even insightful when done well and add to the overall understanding of why we like certain games and why we don’t like others. There are bajillions of sites, youtubers, critics, blogs, etc out there, some you will like and some you won’t, but this blind hate of the entire field just because the most well known names are often the most biased, lazy, and least informative and accurate is like me saying I hate all SRK’ers because Sennin exists.
The best game journalists are the ones who are fans first, reporters second, one of the main reasons Giantbomb crew are so well loved by many including myself is they don’t put themselves on some elitist pedestal thinking their opinion is more valid than anyone else’s just because they have their own website to publish them on. They just flat out have a lot of fun playing games, talking about them, making fun of them, and just being a part of the gaming culture celebrating why we game in the first place while also trying to maintain some level of professionalism with new updates, interesting stories, quick looks which are my personal favorite, and a wikipedia like data base that lets us interact with the site.
Zoo, how do you feel about your boy Ben Kuchera being front-and-center in all of this nonsense?
You used to sing his praises all the time, yet he’s one of the biggest douchebags in the entire game “journalism” industy… If game “journalism” has a bad rap, then he’s one of the main reasons why, right alongside shit-pieces like Patrick Klepek and the entire Gawker network.
He’s a good writer, guess you’ve never heard of Penny Arcade Report or Ars Technica, he wrote some interesting articles for those sites, but after the shit he pulled with Polygon and Kotaku yeah I don’t respect him anymore, kind of like how you were so hyped for MN9, all over Inafune’s dick and then did a total 180 when the kickstarter stretch goals came along.
This is a prime example of how an interview and games journalism in general should be no dick sucking or slanted attacks. Joe isn’t afraid to ask tough questions and put some pressure, but he remained fair and respectful while the publisher/developer answers his questions as directly as possible without the political bullshit in the way being equally fair and respectful to Joe.
This is a breath of fresh air to watch, but it’s also sad because the whole industry should be this transparent. It speaks volumes about the industry that an independent youtuber does a better job than most of the major outlets who have infinitely more resources and connections.
Right, like that review of KoFXIII Steam Edition he did where he wrote 5 paragraphs and talked about how the game played for 2 sentences, using the rest of his time to talk about how the game was terrible because all of the characters are sexist and all of the stages are racist. That was really great writing that was thought provoking and told the consumer a lot about the quality of the game, how it ran, the difficulty to get into, how active the community is/was, and how the online functioned.
Molyneux is hilarious, i honestly believe his true calling would have been a leader of a suicide cult, but through sheer luck he ended up being involved in games
No joke, he made games and quit the industry once before, back in the Atari/Amiga days. He made a game and it flopped, so he quit to be a bean importer/exporter. As it turns out, the name he chose for his company was very similar to the name of another company that just so happened to make video games. One day he was contacted by someone thinking they were calling the video game company and inquired about commissioning a game. That’s when he decided to lie about his company and took the money to make a game and that’s when he rejoined the industry.
Check it, man is banned. Now we can stop taking the bait. That said, the damage has been done and I’ve already put up news of what just happened on KiA. First the iantothemax opinion piece, now this? Hmm.
