Please explain to me in what way the lead protagonist of Metroid, Mirror’s Edge, Remember Me and the Tomb Raider re-boot are sexualised? The only time Samus is shown in a sexual manner is in the ending of the classic games. 99.99% of the time she’s fully cloth in her armor suit kicking ass. Like everyone else here has been asking. A consumer market requires desirable products to be purchased. If a product is undesirable and the consumer offers criticism, that does not make the consumer entitled.
So no, “don’t like it, make your own” is NOT VALID in any situation. It’s belittling, immature, and has no place in any argument about anything. Since this thread is about gaming journalism and the not-so-recent-revelation that gaming journalism sucks ass, why not just close the thread with “don’t like the way journalists cover video games, make your own journalism site/magazine/video series and stop complaining just to complain”? This is misleading and out of context. Your talking about a fighting game in which 2 versions of her are playable. The one being her traditional look and the other being her zero suit look. Given that the zero suit look was always intended to be sexy her heels are logically consistent with its design philosophy.

This question slipped into my mind when I read about SF being misogynistic on some website because of how a few of the females were sexy, close to naked, and somethin’ about Cammy’s ass in her intro. And then I thought, these guys do know that there are at least 4 dudes in the game who wear just thongs and 2 I can think of who are just plain butt-naked. And it’s pretty much like that for everything; there are always “sexy” naked dudes everywhere being “stereotypical machismos” so why not the same for women?
These characters are the way they are cuz that’s how they were intended. More chicks need to start playin’ more games, seriously, the world is made up of 51% women.
This reminds me of a study on porn a while back. Men enjoyed it in a solitary, private fashion; women would talk and discuss about it with other women.
Way I see it, female gamers simply consume games differently than their male counterparts. Men buy games because they fit their ideal of a good game, shunning all the “boring” genres. Women are a tad different. Women play games because they see them as popular with their friends, allowing for exchanges and community between their fellows. Depiction isn’t the issue; never heard a female gamer complain about anything a man wouldn’t. Women play fewer games because… women play fewer games. But, since so many men play, more women are playing, which helps get even more women into games. Time will solve the disparity.
Men sought out games for their entertainment, women wish to enjoy them with gamer friends.
Women love stories. You don’t even need a female lead; as long as the female isn’t just a pair of finely shaped, succulent, tig ol breastesses and has some depth to her then they’re down. They love the Ass Creeds, Walking Deads, Last of Uses, Resident’s Evils,RPGs, and shit.
Like I said earlier, ask a woman what she wants in a game. I guarantee you that you won’t get a straight answer like, “more technical combos” or “wide variety of playstyles”…
It will be some vague ass shit about “fun” or “something she doesn’t have to spend too much time learning to be good at”…
Unless you ask an actual female hobbyist, whose answers will be more in line with what male hobbyists would say.

I think most guys don’t care because most guys care about how the gameplays primarily. Where as these SJWs and feminist read WAY too much into characters and aesthetics. Like when I saw Urien in third strike. I was like wtf? Some fan service for ladies huh lol. But I enjoyed the game. These SJWs as far as they’re concerned. If There’s tits and ass the game is ass and an attack on women. Instead of just eye candy and nothing more.
You do know that we are a VERY small percentage of people that play games now, right? People who care about the intricacies of every game they play are rare. We only see each other because we come to a website dedicated to breaking down one specific type of game. It’s silly to think otherwise when you see that the global market for video games is worth $24 billion. So while you’re making generalizations about women and what they want in games, keep in mind that the vast majority of male players also feel the same way.
