That’s not my point Razor. My point is that most women prefer to game on their phones and on social media sites and very few own consoles or buy PC games. So with that why create games for console and PC tailored towards women when most don’t play on console and PC?
It’d probably be a good idea to make mobile games tailored to women. But it just doesn’t make sense to do it for console and PC. When more women start gaming on console and PC then you’ll see more female oriented AAA titles.
If a definition includes everyone, then the definition isn’t needed. If the word “gamer” can also describe my mother playing minesweeper at work, then we need another word to describe people who care MORE about videogames. People who like more complex games and genres, who are willing to buy dedicated hardware to enjoy them etc.
Everyone are “moviegoers”, but some people are really deep into movies. There’s a clear difference.
Lord Raptor. All we’re saying is there’s a clear difference between those who game occasionaly and those who are really into the gaming culture and community. Same way how you have those who play pick up games of basketball and those who play for a competitive team. One takes it more seriously and is more passionate about it than the other. Nothing wrong with acknowledging that difference, as long as one isn’t made to feel bad for being passionate about gaming or not as passionate about it. I.E “Stick to your Angry Birds you filthy casual” Or “Most of these guys in the FGC have no life”
It’s okay to label people as long as you agree with the labels and they are supposedly gender neutral because no one wants to be reminded that they are an idiot with a wolf tail and not wolfie blackheart or whatever.
I take it you’re being sarcastic. So are we not suppose to acknowledge our differences? Are we all in the same boat regardless of ones belief, passion, dedication, and or talent for something? There’s no difference between a mom who plays Candy Crush here’n’there and someone who plays games for hours at a time and keeps up with gaming news and events?
Just to drive the point home, your argument can be constructed as such:
“Why do blacks feel like they need the right to be treated equally? Why don’t they just stay in chains without complaining for a while, with a tragic few of them live in freedom just to see what it’s like. Eventually the word will spread and blacks can make a choice for themselves whether or not they want to stay under slavery or live a free life. Then and only then should we talk about them being counted as full human beings, their right to vote, and the chance to go after the American dream.”
I have been harping on this for years and hardly anyone has cared until now, Razor can tell you I used to go on rants in irc about how corrupt gaming journalism was going back to Shue. He was the first that I know of who openly took favors for reviews but certainly not the last. Famitsu has absolutely admitted to giving games better scores if the publishers gives them shit, Kotaku has done it for years, everyone knows about the dishonesty in IGN, etc etc. Honestly nothing will happen, in a month this will be forgotten about, swept under the rug and everything will go back to business as usual.
These kind of explanations always come off like a way to remove accountability from women’s choices. There’s also this question about what does a "female friendly"game look like and why should developers risk a loss of profits for a demographic that might not give them the best return in profits. Granted I’m not saying that it wouldn’t hurt to have more games specifically designed to appeal to female audiences but shouldn’t this be a motivating point for more women to take the initiative and enter game development as opposed to expecting people to do things for them.
A recent study on the demographics of the audience who attends summer movies in particular something like marvel movies reveals that a surprising large number of these people are women…latina women to be more precise. This indicates that if a certain audience is interested in something strongly enough then will go support it even if they aren’t the target demographic. I think that if women really had the same interest as men in gaming this would have manifested itself a lot earlier…yet it seems to me that women only started showing a equal amount of interest during the casual craze of the wii and modern social media games.
I don’t get how slavery is equatable to acknowledging that men and women are not playing the same kind of games. All that’s being said is that a rather sizable portion of female gamers are playing games on platforms that aren’t traditionally associated with gaming. This is a important distinction especially when game game developers pour in millions of dollars on the next triple A console/PC game. I don’t think it’s wrong to be honest about the kind of games men and women are playing…and I think it’s quite silly to pretend a woman who casually plays FB games is comparable to a gamer that spends hundreds/thousands on games, consoles and accessories.
The problem is that the consumer isn’t entitled to things and as much as people would like to think that women should be given things just on principle, that’s not the way the world works. There are plenty of smart women who could easily enter game development and start making games for the female audience in mind…and I would think that empowering women would be encouraging them to take the initiative to get things done themselves as opposed to waiting till other people (in this case mostly men) to do things for them. The problem here though is that the "if you don’t like it do it yourself"line offers a solution and let’s be honest…the people complaining about the lack of women in gaming don’t want a solution they just want to complain. They would rather be like Anita and waste thousands of dollars complaining as opposed to spending that money on hungry inexperienced female developers.
So there is all this talk that “Game journalism is ruined” and “The integrity of gaming journalism is irreparably damaged” and whatnot. When was it ever good? People are outraged at the idea of a review being biased, and reviewers being paid off is a sign of the industry going to hell in a hand basket, but then look back to the glory days of Nintendo Power with the fondest of nostalgia.
How many people care that actual journalism is ruined by clickbait? All the buzzfeed and facebook shit or just and re posting tweets as if that was investigative journalism.
Razor. Like I stated earlier Razor. Metroid Prime series, Mirror’s edge series, Remember Me and The Tomb Raider reboot. The games are their. Women just simply aren’t into them because they’re time consuming and more difficult to play. It’s not about strong female protagonist or women being too sexualised as far as the average woman is concerned. Most women like casual party games and simpler games. Also most women own smart phones or some mobile device. That’s the main reason why so many game on mobile devices. Quick simple entertaining games at your finger tips on a device you already own. Before Mobile gaming how many women were gaming? Honestly?
As for that slavery comparison. What…The…Actual…Fuck!? I’m not even gonna dignify that with a response. Like c’mon son.
While it’s not a legit answer to criticism it’s a valid statement. You can criticise something all you want. 9/10 if what a person is doing is working. The person or group being criticised for their actions or product will give 0 fucks, throw on their shades and be like “Haters gonna Hate” At that point one will either A. Do something about it their damn self. B accept how it is and move on. C. Continue wasting their breath bitching. And it looks like all these SJW’s chose option C.
