Why do you use T. Hawk?

I’ve always used underused characters in every fighting game and right before i got super 4 i dicked around with blazblue a little bit and mained tager. I remember seeing a T. Hawk at a local tourny a long time ago when i was still into smash, he was raping the competition and i found his torando grab animation like the kewlist thing in the game. So as soon as i bought super 4 i gave him a shot after a few of the overused characters such as ryu, ken, bison, and saw that most of his command list were full circles and i found that a total turn on. I’ve considered going back to other grapplers like zangief and abel but there lack of and SRK move is just far to much of a turn off for me to really enjoy them. I also like t. hawks character design and i’ve always wanted to prove someone wrong in any fighting game that any character can be good when mastered.

I keep him as a side character because he’s simple, a grappler and possibly the most underused character in the game.

Honestly,
Easier execution and High Health/damage made me pick T.Hawk. I literally was horrible when I played SF4, and going into SSF4 I wanted the easiest character I could use.

I won a few matches with T.Hawk (At the time, I had never won more than 1 out of every 10 matches) and I just decided to stick with him.

As time passed and I stopped sucking so much, I learned that T.Hawk maybe a faceroller against other bad players, but you really have to work for your wins against more skilled opponents.

The thing that keeps me with T.Hawk is I like the slow, meticulous, gameplay that he has. It really feels like I’ve outplayed my opponent when I get in and do some big damage. Also, I love his look.

AE seems like it’ll be good to T.Hawk, and I can’t wait to get a DLC update to SSF4 (I’m sure it’ll come)

I used to play Balrog, and I was pretty bad but I still managed to beat most of my friends because Balrog is pretty disgusting in SSFIV. I started playing T.Hawk back in December, first as a joke doing things like mashing SPD and jump-in Ultra 1 just to annoy people, but then I started finding that I was enjoying him more than Balrog so I started playing him a bit more seriously.

I like playing T.Hawk because it feels like I have to really think to win most matches and I have to work hard. Execution, in my opinion, isn’t hugely important but being able to out manoeuvre and correctly place your opponent is essential and it’s something I really enjoy doing.

Oh, and his Ultras look hilarious (especially U2)

I’ve been playing third strike online for about 4 years on keyboard, and I finally picked up SSF4 a few days ago. Problem is I’m not used to pad and have a tough time getting some of the combos, focus cancels, links and supers down. A lot of that is of course down to inexperience, but anyways…

I tried to do the trials and whenever I couldn’t get a combo down for 5-10 minutes I would just move on to the next chara. As It turned out I got to T.Hawk and managed to complete all of em.
So that’s who I’m gonna play. :nunchuck: For some reason I have less than perfect execution on something as easy as hadokens or srks but 360’s I hit 99/100.

Also, I like him. Dude’s a beast. Damaging comboes, awesome ultra, decent poking game and easy to use.

I use T.Hawk because I can take month long breaks without playing or practicing SF4 and come back to still play decently with him, minimal time in training room too.
Also his command grab resembles Oro’s command grab, one handed rag-doll throwing is just too great to pass up.

Even though it says Hakan in my sig and I have an Hakan Avy, before Hakan it was Zangief and before Zangief it was T.Hawk. I’ve been playing SF series since the first one and when World Warriors came out, I went from Guile, to Blanka, to Ken. I tired Zangief once and couldnt do a SPD. so I never played him then. I was all about Ken and Sagat in CE. Once SSFII came out, I was all about Cammy, until a dude came in the arcade and played with T.Hawk. I didnt even know that Hawk had a DP like move. From then on, I forced myself to learn how to SPD correctly. You give a grappler a DP move? Sold!

Another reason why I play T.Hawk, is because he’s a grappler. Since then. I only main Grapplers in SF series (I am an SNK head and I play “The Kapwan”). So in the alpha series, Gief / Hawk / Birdie. 3rd strike, Hugo (best grappler in the SF universe IMHO) and in IV, Zangief. Once T.Hawk was announce, I was giddy like a school girl. The first grappler I ever played was in Super.

I still play Hawk today (I am forcing myself to play Hakan more, because even though I am average with him, I like his play style better then Hawks) and I can win with him more then I can with Hakan.

When AE drops, I’ll play Hakan more, but I’ll still play with “Timothy Nathaniel Hawkins III”

Easy to use and big combo damage from very few hits, you can get trapped on the outside by shoto’s but that just turns into an ultra charging session.

Because Hawk makes me think about what I’m doing.

My reasoning for using T Hawk is mainly because I always felt like he was an underdog and I enjoy that type of play. I just think he has an interesting character model. Lame reasoning I know. Also I am ludicrously bad at DPs and while THawk benefits from his DP, it’s much easier to work around than Zangief because he just sucks without it.

I’ve always enjoyed grappler characters, though I haven’t been that good with them in the past. Figured if I’m going to pick up SSF4 seriously I might as well put the effort into it.

Also with a lot of my training against other people I’ve learned a lot more how to notice certain trends in peoples play styles or character specific combos. I play my T Hawk a little more defensively than most (because I’m still trying to nail the full circles consistently and as you know, a whiff sucks) so I really need to know what’s going at me. Playing as T Hawk I feel has really improved my game overall in terms of learning about zoning and more advanced tactics in order to be effective.

I play T. Hawk because I have a lot of fun doing it!

I play T.Hawk because I love the 1 arm slam. I don’t care for Geif but like the grappler concept. Also I love to get a life lead and turtle on characters like Balrog, just to give them a taste of their own medicine. I will draw it out too, not even trying to damage them but keep them out/run the time down. But I only will do that to turtle characters.

Also I play Gouken and some characters love to constantly jump in and neutral jump Gouken, which is very frustrating. So once I get my ass handed to me by said characters I rematch them with Hawk. And I laugh at them running away after 2 hit combo or something lame, they want no part of crossing up/neutral jumping the Hawk.

And FYI I love threads like this I don’t know why everyone on SRK has a stick up their ass about fun threads. I like to read peoples opinions sometimes and not just facts/combos/frame data. Which by the way you can still find just as easily with these threads if you use the search feature.

cause im starting to get bored using gief and you know what im having a lot fun using T.HAWK in AE… lol

Hate doing links.

Masochism and mindfuckery.

I used to think T.Hawk was a boring character until he did the Mexican Typhoon in SSF2 and said, " mmmmmmMMMMM! " while doing it. I was like, " Wow, so awesome! ". His Stage Theme in that game is really pleasant to listen to also. As far as Grappler-Type characters go, I really think T.Hawk is one of the most unique and well-designed Grapplers’ in any existing fight game today.

Very few grapplers possess what T.Hawk has. He’s Native American (Indian characters as we know are very rare in fighting games), has an Uppercut, and he has the ability to fly! Isn’t that just a weird thought? Imagine seeing in real life an 8 foot tall 400 Lb man flying! T.Hawk is just fascinating on so many levels.

His strong and sincere attitude appeals to me too. If he was real, he’d probably be the kind of person who would never let a friend down and would fight for fairness and such. He would be the best friend anybody could ever hope for.

Aside from the fact that he’s always been a Mid-tier character and below in every one of his fighting game appearances, I think the reason why T.Hawk is unpopular is because of his unusual features. It’s kinda like the same thing with Gen. He’s a very unique character, one of the few fighting game characters with multiple movesets, but he’s so different that most people out there aren’t willing to give him a chance.

Regardless, T.Hawk has this weird charm, and I can’t explain it, but I really like him alot.

I always enjoyed using the slow low combo characters, my favs used to be Birdie and E. Honda in A3, and Blanka in turbo… though he wasn’t so slow there :stuck_out_tongue:
I also like the fact that matches are harder, an uphill battle as they say, so i always tend to gravitate towards low tier as well.

I use Hawk because none of my friends take him seriously. Hell, the SF community in general doesn’t view him as a legit threat at higher levels of play. And, to be honest, I never gave him much thought at all. I thought he was garbage in SF2 and I didn’t even entertain the thought of selecting him in Super for at least seven months after the game released. I mained Sagat up until that point, but I hit a plateau with him skill wise. I’m not trash with Sagat and I’m not the most skilled person using him – I’m in that weird limbo in the middle where I can’t improve.

I picked Hawk as a joke and lo’ and behold, he fit my defensive play style tons better. I easily ranked up to a B with him in under 2 weeks, leaving rage quits and hate mail in my path of destruction. I’m playing on a pad, too, so the less errors I can make input wise the better. With Sagat, I’d be trying to do a Tiger Shot and wind up doing a Tiger Uppercut in the middle of nothing. This often left me wide open to get punished, and I was getting sick of that. Hard to mess up a 720.

Which brings me back to my earlier point of nobody taking him seriously. If you win with Hawk, people say you’re mashing. If you lose with Hawk, people say you’re mashing. No matter how well you actually play, it seems the disrespect lingers. True story, I was in Ranked once and during the first round I did one command grab and the guy on the other end is screaming in his mic about how I’m spamming. WTF? Doing one grab = spam? lol. Another instance I got booted from a lobby for beating this guy’s Akuma because he thought my Hawk was lame. Yeah, me being patient as hell while you’re throwing out a million fireballs, getting in close and raping you is playing lame… GTFO.

For that reason alone, in AE, I’m exclusively using him. I’m going to beat some respect into people, no matter how long it takes. I’m going to compete in some local tourneys soon, best believe I’ll have Hawk out in full force. Win, lose, are draw, people will learn to respect his game.

I took him up in super because giefs vortex getting boring and he can handle sagat a little better than gief IMO.

With his buffs in AE. He is a legit grappler, he has the scare factor like gief. Once he gets close you feel panic button looming.

I love spacing spires in this game. Nothing feels better than spacing out condor spires. And thrust peak anti airs makes for awesome trollage.
