Any SFIII character is a welcome addition in my mind. But it’s almost guaranteed that no old characters will play even remotely the same in SFXT.
Never went to Capcom Unity, until now when I followed a link there.
It surprised me there’s a considerable amount of fan request for a “remake” of the first Street Fighter.
And seeing Capcom anouncing some festivities for the 25 birthday, it easy to think some return of that game is expected for this crossover game, or SSF4AE. If it were for AE is most likely to happen with Alex, Sean, or other SF3er.
But the case is, it being very predictable to have another SF1 return, because after of all, that will be marking a comeback after the noted 25 years…
Of course I’d like to see again the english ones who already returned years ago, too…
And I’m not fool to ignore that there must be another new title revealed this year, like the Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat requested by american fans and Mortal Kombat creator himself…
Or maybe SF5…
But a chance of a comeback of a character from 25 years ago is very viable.

The chance of a new Capcom fighting game announcement is like 1% at best. They are going to be focusing on SFxTekken as we just had UMVC3 and the 2012 patch for SF. Down the line there is inevitable character offerings via DLC so I bet there will be some long forgotten favorites making a return. However, if new consoles launch soon I’d expect a project to be here sooner than later.
I think it’s the nostalgia aspect of the game. When SF4 came out, a few fighters were included from the Alpha series that they questioned why 3rd Strike was left out. Then SSF4 brought in some 3rd Strike characters…well, it’s either the original Street Fighter, or the EX versions.
Me personally, Eagle > Skullomania.
They wont bring back EX characters as Capcom do not own the rights to those. I think they brought back SF1 characters that had potential in the eyes of Capcom. Joe, Mike, Retsu and Lee are not very interesting and Gekki’s fight style is shared between Ibuki and Vega. Personally I would love for them to bring them back but I jsut cant see it happening…
Doubt you’ll ever see Mike in a game now without radical changes. Mike was the prototype for M. Bison (Balrog), right down to the name.
Geki could be put in the game, even if he was evolved into Vega. The could always recon him to be Vega’s teacher when he traveled to Japan to learn ninjutsu. Lee is most likely dead based on Chun-Li’s storyline. Retsu could be added no problem, same with Eagle, Birdie. Joe could be added, if he’s moveset was expanded.
M. Bison was initially Mike Bison as well, a take on Mike Tyson haha.

They could always change him completely! Would be a huge radical change, like him becoming an alcoholic or some crazy street boxer or something.
Didn’t Ono talk about making Alpha 4? If that ever happens, I’m sure we’ll see at least one or two “new” SF1 characters.
