Why do people still insist on another HD game?

The older games are extremely ugly. Be grateful you get an update at all. Mvc2’s filters aren’t even functional for smooth online play.

I wouldn’t mind if 3s Online would be an HD remix, same for one on Alpha 3. If so, it should be treated as an all new game and not just another port.

Udon’s re-drawings of Puzzle Fighter HD, based on better CPS2-era artwork, were just as dissapointing as ST HD. HDR’s shortcomings are as much Udon’s fault as the outdated original’s.

Fuck a re-drawn 2d game. Capcom should go back and re-skin their 3d games with modern/updated models. Make RE 1-0 look as good as or better than 5, and release a compilation for like 40 bucks for current gen systems. Rival Schools + Project Justice, Star Gladiator + Plasma Sword, too. They can do that in a very short amount of time, as opposed to getting Udon’s sucky-at-animation-and-written-sound-effects asses to take 20+ years to poorly redraw a game that looks just fine to begin with.

I want an MK Trilogy HD remix, only this time done right. HD digitized characters. They can keep the backgrounds the way they arefor all I care. And obv fix the broken ass characters.

Exactly I hate to say this but we have been playing SF2 for almost 20 years now it was a great series but can we please revisit some other series’s I would love to play those games in the bolded . I would love to play Darkstalkers and Jojo’s competitively without hunting down roms and emulators . Which is becoming necessary to play these great titles.

CPS2 and even CPS3 sprites have tons of anatomy and perspective problems too. The lower resolution masks those problems pretty well most of the time. The other day I was trying to do a CvS2 Bison HD sprite, and found out how one of my favourite Capcom sprites looks awful when directly traced to a higher res.

Yeah Udon definitely made things worse, but part of it is because they just trace instead of correcting and redrawing the sprites. KOF '94 rebout had the same problem: while 94’s sprites aren’t completely horrible, when traced and blown up to a higher resolution they looked absolutely disgusting. And that same company made KOF XIII, which is easily the best drawn 2D fighter ever (regardless of the wacky style they chose).

If a company ever attempts to make an HD remix again, they need to realize that simply tracing sprites at a higher resolution will almost always look like shit.

Sometimes, people just don’t want to see a 10 year old game in high definition.

Udon has been getting pretty crappy lately.

Their early work like with the SF Comics and the CFJ endings were mostly amazing.
Now I guess they’re getting stretched too far because honestly HD Remix and the TvC 1.5 endings look like garbage.

Udon has some truly great artists (Jo Chen, Arnold Tsang), they just seem to pick their worst ones for important projects.

In Puzzle Fighter HDR’s case, the static artwork was redrawn (and/or vectorized?), while the sprites were filtered. Because people just want the nostalgia blast of playing those old games on current generation consoles

well i mean i do too hdr looks astonishingly bad but im curious what an hd remix of an older game would look like if it actually had nice art

I like HD Remix in it’s own way. Sometimes I still like to fire up my emulator and play some ST with friends… but the fact is almost no one really wants to play ST anymore, so HD Remix is not a bad alternative.

I hope this helps to understand the issue for those who gasp like the look of SSFIITHDR and think that its shortcomings are due to flaws of the original. Check Zangief?s original gethit animation. You may call it simple, funny or blocky, but it is consistent in lighting and anatomy. Now check the HDR one. Besides the dubious artistic qualities of each frame, they are completely messed up when put together. It looks like there was a lamp flying around his legs, as each frame has a totally random shading.
