Why Do People Play 'Broken' Characters:In Defense of Character Selection

But competitive Mario Kart exists.

Blue Shells can be dodged with high execution just saying

Mario kart 64 is really hard to doge them. If u don’t like broken characters, then play Starcraft 2 though I think sc2 has top tier characters also. Any race can win just check the koraen vids

I know top tier Zerg units are mutas, hydras, roachs, lings

believe me, they can be very drastic
on Fifa or Pro Evolution Soccer, you can have the bad luck of having all the members of your team with low stats, making their performance very lacking , and if its raining, your shots wouldnt be precise, and it would be very dificult to control the ball

on racing games, you can have the very bad luck of having a car spawning randomly in fron of you out of no where and costing you the race, and maybe a tournament, i know from the expreience :looney:

A bit off topic…
What racing games do you play? I used to wish Wipeout XL and Kinetica were competitive… :frowning:

Wipeout racers own all racing games. Pro am racing 2 for nes comes close

hard still doesn’t mean impossible and still a good player can get hit by one and win

That sounds like something that’d infuriate me to no end, but I guess they would add to the excitement in the game. From the little I saw of the items matches in Brawl before they stopped bothering, it only further promoted camping it out in a game were the defensive mechanics were already far better than offensive ones, so it didn’t really help anyone’s excitement.

To close this up, though, its almost 3am here and I’m too tired to type anymore, but I do feel the problem here is just a simple difference in ideology, whether people want a more consistent, purely competitive game, or one that’s more exciting and fun to play. Brawl is neither of these things regardless of what you do it, though, so I don’t feel this argument particularly matters in the long run. My parents tried to get me into chess a lot when I was younger, but video games had already taken their hold on me, so I tend to prefer the first to the second if given the option, but I can understand why you would want the second, as that is why I got into video games over chess in the first place after all.

I won’t hold any ill feelings because of this, and I hope everyone here does the same. I’ve spent too much time on dumb forums where simple disagreements turn into people throwing mud at everyone until the mods step in.

EDIT: And by the time I finished typing this, it was 3am. Good night everyone.

That’s like the worst assessment of SC2 I’ve ever seen : / There are units that are outright designed to be better than other units, but they’re more expensive to build and take longer before you can get them. So there are no such thing as “Top tier” units for Zerg, well there are but you can’t just pick to build X unit and ignore Y unit. And Hydras are widely considered to be some of the worst units Zerg has. On top of that, 20 of the 32 players in the top league of SC2 are terran, with 7 zerg and only 5 protoss. And 3 out of the 5 protoss are in jeopardy of losing their spot this round, 1 protoss hasn’t played yet and 1 managed to stay in without advancing.

Terran is very clearly the top tier race choice at this point.

I just got done catching up on some SC2 and I’m really frustrated at the game then I saw this, so I had to vent lol

lol Terran QQ

Yeah, this is what I’m seeing from the past few posts. Both are perfectly fine reasons for wanting to play the game. I’m obviously for the former, and some of you guys are for the latter. So we’ll just agree to disagree here.

like the fighting games i usually try as much as possible to find if i like it or not, but my main focus are the arcades over the simulators
Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Midnight Club L.A. are my primary focus on tournaments
i ocassionally enter to tournaments of The last Test Drive and Grand Turismo 5

of couser im not limited to those, i also play go cart games (Mod Nation, Crash Team Racing), and futuristic games like wipeout, though i dont really like Wipeout Hd

CTR is awesome!
I do like Wipeout HD / Fury… It’s a bit of fun.
I didn’t even know there were tournaments for racing games… wow.

I like how even in your '“let’s just agree to disagree” line you’re still trying to twist the point to make the other side look scrubby. Essentially it’s a question of threshold. At which point of stripping away features does it stop being beneficial? On the one side you have people who want bare bones, ultra simplistic systems that deny any need for adaptation, and on the other you have people that think a highly dynamic and nuanced product leads to a better competitive system. You’re right though in that Brawl is neither

As far as Brawl goes, I’ll just chime in and say that I like it when games are playable right out of the box. When you play SF/Marvel, you’re playing the exact same game you see in tournaments. Though your skill level may differ from a top player, you’re involved in the same metagame. In Smash, that’s not the case. With there being so many different rule sets that people use, you could be skilled in one tournament and get bodied in another due to playing in a different metagame; it’s not consistent at all and splits the community.

I’ve always felt that CTR was one of the best, in-depth kart racers around, period (along with MK64). Man, I played the mess out of that game, and I don’t think I ever got around to unlocking N.Tropy. The Cortex Castle time trial always got the best of me.

Hecatom, you know if there’s a competitive scene for Blur? It’s the current gen racer that’s taking up most of my time. I’ll love to play it against other people especially after the servers got shut down.

When you said MK64, Thought you meant Mortal Kombat…

Anyway…

Who down with that Megaman Battle and Chase!?

Back on topic folks.

Why the fuck is everyone talking about Smash.

Why are people (who should know better) wasting their time responding to Smashers?

Because believe it or not some people enjoyed the discussion, not everyone on both sides are total assholes, and fuck sometimes it can be interesting read. Shit, stop trying to constantly kick up shit between people that play smash and those that do.

I like LUCK.

You are completely missing my point because I’m not arguing whether or not it should be regulated, just what I feel happens when it is.
