Why do people hate Gill?

hey y not?

The other thing to keep in mind is that Capcom never bothered to tone the player-controlled Gill down, so when you pop your cursor off the screen like that, your opponent knows what they’re in for: an overpowered character with brains behind him, instead of simple patterns.

Had they gone in and actually BALANCED Gill for player use (like they tried to do for Gouki in ST [yes,I prefer that name, even when I insist ‘Dic’ is Bison]), I doubt there’d be so much outrage over people selecting him. He’d be just another fighter in the cast.

-----WISHFUL THINKING SECTION-----

If I were to have the say in how he’d be toned down, I’d go as follows:

-For starters, since he’s got 3 Super Arts now, I’d have you pick one (all 3 use same single-stock bar as CPU):

–SA1: Resurrection (no command) (Less push-away, vulnerable immediately and slower regeneration, but allows regaining meter that round)

–SA2: Meteor Strike (:qcf::qcf::p:) (Fewer Kinesises)

–SA3: Seraphic Wing (:qcf::qcf::p:) (Parryable now; lower damage)

-Pyro/Cryokinesis only one hit
–EX version available; acts like CPU’s kinesis attacks

-Cyber Lariat has shorter range depending on Punch used. Hits only on one of the two points, but never both (Both must be parried, however).
–EX: Again, the CPU’s version.

-Moonsault Knee Drop comes out like the CPU’s, but again, only hits once. Only one parry needed to defeat.
–EX: Copies Urien’s EX VKD.

Normal moves:

-NO CHIP DAMAGE FOR A SINGLE BUTTON PRESS (am I the only one annoyed you can score a C just by hitting Fierce or Roundhouse?)

Hopefully the next time we get an SF3 port (SF3 collection, anyone?), something like this could happen, and he wouldn’t be as hated…

The ideas for nerfing everyone’s favorite cheap-ass might not be exactly original, or even great, but I never saw anyone else throwing thoughts out there, so I had to give it a shot. Who knows, maybe someone might actually use these or improve upon 'em somehow.

Just my 2, people :3

Wasn’t the idea behind Urien is that he is a toned-down playable version of Gill? Gill is really just a more damaging command-motion version of Urien (with those crazy supers).

That’s just… failure.

That’s like saying Ken’s just another version of Ryu, even in ST or III. Give some thought to what you just said there, and what my substituted statement says, and see if you can’t figure out where you went wrong.

Ken and Ryu came out at the exact same time.

No.

NO.

What an absurd and silly thing to say. All I meant was that I read somewhere that the idea behind Urien when was introduced in 2nd Impact was that he was sort of a toned-down playable Gill (Gill remember is not selectable in the arcades).

In a way your right, but only in the sense that Urien is based off of Gill’s sprite and move style. But they made Urien distinctive enough that it wouldn’t be as apparent as your standard Ryu/Akuma distinction.
