OH SORRY DIDNT MEAN TO OFFEND YOU MNAOIEHUHWEUFWEFWEF
Just shut up.
Because stream monsters will complain about anything
Lol dude, relax. Your going to be a dick so am I. I am immature like that.
Of course you are… And, stating the obvious in the first place helps so much, doesn’t it? What exactly were you expecting?
I play Juri and I only zone when it’s a grappler. Zangief gets kept away hard. Especially when you charge infinitely they dont know how many or which versions you’ve stored. Otherwise I play offensive because I like to do combos.
I was expecting to talk about a game with some nice people. Not dbags who are just rude because they are internet warriors. Peace.
“Internet warrior…?” o_O That’s just glorious.
If you expect to have a conversation with someone in relation to fighting games… do yourself a favor and try to prevent telling them something that is already obvious to them!
It’s the idea that a defensive player doesn’t have to do much to win that creates the stigma. For example, most players (Even those who hate lame styles) have grown an appreciation for Dhalsim because a good Dhalsim is constantly active, mobile, and using pretty much every tool he’s got; while Guile and Morrigan remain hated because they appear to only need to use three or four moves to do their strategy. There’s more to them than that, but it’s not as easy to see.
People should really stop undermining the execution it takes to make Chris G’s Morrigan/Doom combination functional. Even Dieminion admitted during a Big Two that Chris G is able to fly/cancel soul fists faster than his own Morrigan. Think about about how many things Chris needs to react to before he makes his next decision. No, i’m not fucking trolling. Just watch how he adjusts to different characters as controlled by different players. Oh yeah, and it still hasn’t been a year in UMVC3, so there is plenty of tech that has yet to be developed. coughLOG TRAPcoughMVC2 ICEMANcough
Honestly Zoning/Defensive players are usually people who actually learn how to play the game then people who focus on combos/mixups. A lot of them have the skills to play footsies, block, and other useful things to be good at a fighting game.
Think of it like in Boxing.
Casuals who don’t know shit only want to see knockouts and cannot appreciate technique, counters, ring generalship, and making the other guy miss.
Morrigan/Doom takes very high execution. Unless you don’t think doing 300 fireball motions in one match without fucking up is low execution? Then doing it again and again all throughout a tournament …
Lightning loop is cheese easy in comparison.
I think the mindset of laming it out is looked down upon way more in Marvel because it’s not really considered a legitimate strategy by many. I mean, there are a few characters dedicated to zoning (Morrigan, Ghost Rider, Arthur come to mind) but most people just wanna see stuff get blown up on the screen.
I really, really like zoning a lot though. Watching it might not be fun, but executing it yourself in a match is amazing. Just watching the other player squirm and knowing that salt is building up is awesome. Then you bait out a mistake out of their frustration and punish them hard for it. That’s pretty much my Juri/Dormammu plan in SSF4AE and UMvC3
People think it’s way easier to win by playing lame than by rushing down. At lower levels of gameplay this is pretty much true in Marvel and SF. Your opponent’s going to make a dumb mistake, you’re going to punish it, and then you won without ‘doing’ anything.
At higher levels your opponents make fewer mistakes and know how to approach without being unsafe so they’re less likely to ‘give’ you free damage and if you put yourself in the corner they’re just going to get free damage on you eventually. So lame players need to learn how to escape the corner or stay out of the corner. Usually that involves hitting buttons, which is less lame than not hitting buttons.
People who think that Daigo’s Ryu was ‘lame’ just don’t understand the value of safe pressure and offense. It’s not fun to watch someone get mixed up fifteen times. It’s more fun to watch someone trip over their own face when Daigo makes a good read. it’s just good solid play that there’s no easy way around.
Regardless of whether it’s clockwork blockstringing Sentinel to death in MvC2 or Morrigan and Doom filling the screen with shit from full screen in MvC3, it’s still offense.
This, basically. Zoning/defensive play is about making your opponent fuck up, and grabbing your opening.
tournament play aside
one thing i noticed having moved to cali in the last year
if you go to an arcade you should be prepared to try to rush/mixup people even if it means you lose faster
if you show you can rush/mixup a decent player down and win no one is going to care if you lame them a few times, afterwards
but, the irony is that people who can rush/mixup a decent player usually don’t resort to laming a whole match
so, now you can see why people get pissed about it: 99% of the pure turtles do that because they’re limited by experience/technique
It’s all about adapting really. People get salty because they don’t know how to approach that type of style.
Because people are stupid.
Not to mention there’s also a mindset when playing offensively, that includes things like reading your opponent, knowing your option selects, and taking a lot time in training mode to figure stuff. Don’t use training mode just for combo practice, use it for other stuff too. Like what moves can and can’t be punished etc.
You don’t have to like it but, at least respect it. If it were really as powerful as the whiners make it seem then it would be a lot more common.
They’re going to hate it because it really is frustrating. There is no denying that. Their entire game is about preventing you from playing yours. I don’t see how that WOULDN’T be frustrating. A lot of people are just really bad at not being idiots and they go right to anger then stay there.
I’m not a magic player but, I know in magic the gathering blue decks are all about stopping you from playing your game. They have cards that interrupt and stop your cards from being played. Not that I’m comparing SF or marvel to magic but, it’s part of being a balanced or good game. Supporting all play styles is hype IMO.
Hell, even in martial arts there are styles like Judo and Aikido that don’t focus on offense. There are many ways to fight and these are fighting games!
I agree!
No one’s going to play the way you want them to. So you have to make them play your way.
