You are 100% correct, like I said its an awesome tool, but it still does not bridge the gap of actually PLAYING PEOPLE. You can only program what you know, and frankly if its what you know, then more than likely you arleady know how to get around it short of timing. It does not ‘learn’, it does not ‘improve’, there are some setups so dificult to setup, that it isn’t going to help you (for instance dropping comboes and how to counter that on reaction when it happens - save for popular comboes with opular spots where they drop).
So 1) don’t try to belittle me, especially when I am in partial agreement and 2) my prior statement doesn’t change - its a great tool, but it will never replace actually fighting people. If it did, why go online in the first place? why go to a tournament? You could just set the bot to do a bunch of different things, try and counter it, put it on youtube, and claim you’re the Evo-champ. the things that seperate the top are more often than not experience based. So yeah when starting out, the training room is a great place…when I have an idea for a team, thats the first place I go to check DHCs/pressure options/etc, but once I have the basics down, I get a better feel for the team by actually playing people. shrug but hey maybe its just me.
Honestly, it’s really frustrating getting blown up over and over and over. Once I was in a player match against a guy, and he beat me like 14 times before I got 1 win off him. Played him some more and I discovered that win was only a lucky fluke as I only won one more match while he won like 7. So I added him as a friend, hit the lab and played more matches for a long time before playing him again, we had a FT10, and I noticed I was doing much better, and while I still lost the set 6-10, it was a sign I had really leveled up my game.
Moral of the story: yeah it’s gonna suck if you get your ass whooped multiple times, but you shouldn’t get salty over it, it’s a learning experience. I’m actually kinda glad I got blown up, it gave me some much needed motivation to get better, (I thought I was hot shit cause I had a huge win streak in ranked and won most of my player matches) and it gave me some matchup experience.
@Unreallystic
I’m not belittling you dude. That’s the last thing I want to do. And if I did that, than I apologize. But in my last sentence I did say that training mode AND player experience will only make you better. Besides, if there are setups that are too difficult to actually setup you probably shouldn’t do them seeing as how the risk to reward ratio isn’t in your favor.
This post embodies everything that needs to be done to satisfy OP.
I’m definitely sure you can find crappy players online and befriend them if you want to.
Because surely there are more bad players than good… right?
Just because the game has online doesn’t mean that you should be winning the same as you did when you played MvC2 (or insert w/e game here) with your local buddies and who all collectively didn’t know any better than to pick characters randomly, press buttons, and call it day.
Some people like winning randomly by button mashing, and you can befriend those players because they’ll be the ones whom you feel are on your level.
The players who are truly good aren’t going to come troll your ‘beginner’ lobbies. They’ll be making private rooms with the good players only as well.
I see no problem with a “good” player going into a “beginner lobby” to help them learn. The problem comes from the actions of said “good” player. If they are teaching the lower level players how to play through just beating them that is fine. If you are beating lower level players just to tea bag, taunt, gloat, then you are doing it wrong. (This goes for any game where someone bodies the other…)
All I have to say if you wanna get better …go to tournaments and play those people in tons of casuals… you will leave there a better player I promise you that … I went to my first tournament on Saturday (Charity fights) and played a bunch of casuals with good players and then played in the tournament i lost but the experience made me block better and execute my combos better … there is nothing like playing in front of TONS of people and playing so that you at least don’t look like a Free win … I play the game a lot better and I plan on going to NEC12 to grab some more of that experience from GOOD players … Online is ok but not as good as going to where the REAL FGC is. all the people online don’t play the game to get better some play solely cause its fun and then you have the people who like to troll and beat up on beginners.
I can’t help but fell a lot of people are out of touch. So many times I see. “Just go to tourneys” or “play in your local scene.” Some people don’t have a local scene. Additionally, not everyone that chooses to play this game online is of the ilk to drive hours away to find a scene. Once again some people are just in it to play for fun.
There’s nothing wrong with playing people online, adding to friends list, and making a private lobby with them. If they’re all ‘on the same level’ they can all have fun pushing buttons and everyone wins. Occasionally you can make that ‘beginner room’ again to find more folks who hopefully aren’t trolling your room.
A kick option function would be useful. As would people with less e-peen. I never found beating up folks who aren’t any good at the game anything near ‘fun’.
Not like we can police this, it’s just a product of folks wanting to be idiots online because there is literally no consequence.
Problem being Ragnorok, this isn’t a forum for people who play just for fun. It’s centered around advanced tactics and tournament level play. Nothing wrong with casual players, it’s just that this isn’t, or shouldn’t be, the place for them.
As for people giving up as soon as they encounter someone way above their level, I would say they probably would not have stuck with the game anyway. If you’re in any way interested in joining the tourney scene it’s probably because you have seen matches on youtube or Stream with Combofiend, marlin Pie, Justin, Viscant, whomever. You can’t expect to just pick up and play like these folks, and if you’re initial reaction to running into someone who can do those kinds of things is to give up, as opposed to learning from it, then you should probably just stick to friends lists and casuals.
Even if you are trying to learn in small incriments then it’s still probably a good idea to stick to friends lists and casuals to go at your own pace. Don’t worry about other folks dropping the game, the community has grown enough in the past few years that letting go of someone who gives up won’t damage the growth of the game in the least.
I dont know how this thread has lasted so long. This entire thread is pointless, and is full of stupid, childish arguing and flame bait/trolling.
To the thread creator, next time you feel the need to vent, take it to the general discussion thread that is on the top of the UMvC3 forums… its stickied. You can’t miss it.
To the rest of you, stop trolling. This topic could have been handled maturely. COULD HAVE BEEN. Either way, I’m closing this thread. This shouldn’t have gone as long as it did.
