It doesn’t take hours to learn how to cancel into supers.
Maybe not but it does take a while for new players to learn and memorize the movesets of characters, get their execution to the level where they can do the move they want, etc.
Have you ever tried getting someone who has never done anything in fighting games but mash buttons to do a srk input? It’s really hard for them at first.
I’m not assuming anything. I already said that training mode can be tedious and boring. But if you’re going to just jump straight into the streets at night, there is a chance that you’re going to get raped. If you want to just jump online or playing with your friends/local community then more power to ya. But it’s kind of counter productive if you don’t get that even gameplay you think you should be getting and you don’t really know what to do.
Regarding the above post:That is what training mode is for. It’s there for as a controlled environment for you to learn and iron out all of your bugs. If you can’t deal with the tedium than that is your fault and your fault alone.
It’s no one’s responsibility or obligation to level you up. No one is “stopping” you from leveling up; you just suck and don’t know how to cope and play against a certain play style. I’m no fighting game vet or anything, but seeing these posts about new players complaining how it is hard to improve because they just don’t know how to cope with certain things in a game or actually put in time and effort into learning it is just pathetic. No one will always hold your hand and spoon feed you the way you want. If this were a thread about how to deal with “lame” players, I would have just went on by. But feeling that they OTHER player is hindering YOUR ability to play a game is just absurd.
It’s not about that, it’s about him complaining that people aren’t intentionally sandbagging on his behalf.
Just because it’s nighttime and there is a chance of being raped doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go out at all. You take the proper precautions, like bringing friends or pepper spray or something. Thus going back to the actual topic, you would label your lobby as a Beginner’s Room in order to weed out the type of people you don’t want to fight. Sometimes people will ignore it anyways, that’s the price of playing online. But I was more hopeful that we would see the value in developing a love for fighting games so that you will want to get better.
And you are right, nobody is stopping players from getting better. But you really think that going in and owning some complete newbie is going to help motivate them to do better? That will just frustrate them and they will stop playing. You have to ignite the competitive spark first before someone will get motivated after being owned.
Edit: I’m not saying that you should cater to their badness and take it easy on them. I’m saying to just leave them alone to level up in their own time. As much as possible at least.
well, when someone (beginner) cant land a move and are getting stunned/blown the F up, they really aren’t learning anything. In this case try doing ranked as it matches your skill level, or practice combos and scenarios offline in training mode. Also, there is a kick feature, at worst you’ll get mail or someone will decrease your rep saying you quit early or are unsporting.
Go play arcade mode if you want easy wins.
You’re just solidifying my point.
People in a beginner lobby playing like begginers. NO WAIII!!!
If getting your ass beat isn’t motivation enough, I honestly don’t think you should be playing fighting games competitively to begin with. This isn’t preschool where we have to help one another develop some type of mental stability, if we do, then we ARE “catering to their badness” and lack of self-esteem.
Holy crap this thread sucks
No ones asking the scrubs to stay in the lobby, they don’t like it? Just leave. Simple as
I don’t see how I am.
“Just because it’s nighttime and there is a chance of being raped doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go out at all. You take the proper precautions, like bringing friends or pepper spray or something. Who said anything about playing them competitively? Unless you meant by playing online? Being considerate of other people isn’t catering to their badness. If you are in a tournament or something and someone is bad, you blow them up. You don’t sit there and let them do better because they are bad. But allowing people who are beginners to play in a room entitled Beginner’s Room with other beginners… yeah that’s just being considerate. Going in a Beginner’s room to blow them up and show off how great you are and make you feel better about yourself isn’t exactly a behavior I would consider accommodating to newcomers.
Sorry I didn’t see your second post. I thought the third one you made was your first post. I don’t really agree that it’s a necessary evil but whatever.
Why would advanced players join “beginners only” games? That’s just screams “I’m scared of competition”. Loser shit.
That said, beginners should learn to make friends and create private rooms to keep that from happening. You do learn from playing against better people, but you don’t learn much when someone is so far out of your league that you can’t even react to them. Playing someone closer to your skill level can at least show you what you are capable of.
I understand how you feel as I started out just like you and just put a few hours in training mode and that took me all the way to 4th lord with a CHUN-LI on my team… You dont have to do 200+ hits combos to enjoy the game like Desk, just learning the simple BNB’s of your characters and their strengths/weaknesses can take you a long way
Im nowhere near being a highly skilled player, Im average at best BUT I’ve learned simple techniques to deal with highly skilled/rank players and certain characters who are just a pain in the ass to deal with like Wesker…
BTW taking a beating can definitely be frustrating but learning WHAT MADE YOU TAKE A BEATING in the 1st place rather than complaining about it is the best way to deal with it
Can’t stop Assholes from being Assholes. Well, you can, but it often involves OCV’ing or causing them to Rage Quit.
But as was said above, you can only get better by playing better players. I find myself raging as well when I get caught in long combos or resets sometimes. But I just remember 3 things.
- There’s a chance to break it if it turns into an Aerial Rave.
- Hit-scaling and damage-scaling has been tweaked in this game.
- Long combos have the tendency of being dropped at times…leaving them at your mercy.
People always say “You will get better by playing better players” I feel you all need to think like a noob, and not like a fighting game player. You need to define how much better this “better player” is. If this is someone’s first fighting game, having them play against Daigo will NOT teach them anything at all whatsoever. You need to progressively play better players. Not to mention more that your opponent isn’t going to tell you what you’re doing wrong at a tournament. Unless someone is out there to teach a noob how to play, you won’t get much by playing someone who is leagues above your skill level if you don’t even have the basic understandings of the game. You are all assuming they understand the basics but how do you know what they know? Even if they can do ABC S ABC S super it doesn’t mean they should “know” how to adapt and learn.
that’s why playing online sucks. If you can play people face to face you get to interact with the person but there’s a definite disconnect when you’re playing someone across hundreds of miles of ethernet.
At any rate, what many people don’t understand is that every person learns differently. Some people can pick up on things even if they are getting totally washed by better players. Some others need to learn the game gradually; by finding people at their skill level they can slowly learn and improve. Either way, if you don’t understand what’s going on at all, you wont learn anything.
Sounds like the OP is just venting out his frustrations here. I get the feeling that he’s the second type of player I described. He just has to find players like himself, and play with them until he improves. And NO, playing ranked is a terrible idea in Ultimate, seeing as he ranks from Marvel 3-616 didn’t carry over. so people thaat were like 9th Cosmic Jesus rank are just Beginner now.
Maybe there should be a section for beginning MvC3 players to get together and learn from each other, or a coaching thread/forum
