Why didn't Daigo play Ryu in 3rd Strike?

Daigo played Ryu in A3 and he was mid tier in that game so why wouldnt he play him in 3rd strike instead of tier whoring to Ken? Personally I think Ryu can be won in tournament espically if daigos playing him.

If I recall correctly, Daigo experimented with a lot of (shoto looking) characters when he started 3S, like Ryu, Makoto ([media=youtube]hPqXqatUU8g[/media]) and Ken. I notice that Daigo is incredible at hit confirming (the number of false positives are very low), which is probably a reason he picked Ken.

If you’re talking about the parry into combo itself, it definitely could have happened with Ryu…in fact he’d get MORE damage output and possibly wouldn’t have required a stocked bar.

I mean it can’t really be helped, but I’m so sick of people talking about the Daigo parry when it comes to 3S. There have been much better occasions of this moment happening from better players, and even in Evo2004 itself there were some more memorable moments, like pretty much any KO vs Daigo match, and even Justin vs Raoh and Justin vs Kokujin(which always get overshadowed by Daigo/Justin, which sucks because those were arguably some of the biggest upsets in 3S history).

Actually I seen a pretty cool one with Dudley vs Chun in which the same situation came up. The dudes online name was DokterrHouse or somethin like that. The only difference is that it was all out destruction in Dudleys favor. Chun barely touched him. It wasnt even a comeback though, more like a “Oh you wanna try and hit me with a random super? How about I parry all but the last hit then cross counter your ass into oblivion?”
