Seems prevalent in many games, though. Same with those that have a problem with “loli games” etc, it’s perhaps one of these (subconscious?) behaviors:
a. Will only play characters that the player thinks are representations of themselves/what they want to be in a fantasy world.
b. Will only play characters they could legally have sex with.
Just liking “manly stuff” is legit enough for me too, however. The only fighting game you should play in this case is Hokuto no Ken. Maybe it’s broken, or maybe you’re a pussy.
I prefer my fighters have both male and female combatants. I don’t like when the cast is all one gender. I also don’t like blatant pandering to perverts, but I won’t take potshots at the obvious offender here (i.e., not Melty Blood)…
Dr. B slaps the Time Devourer POORLY CRAFTED VILLAINS BY JAPANESE TALENTLESS HACK STORYTELLERS ARE THE LEAST OF YOUR WORRIES, HU-MANS! OUR NEWLY CRAFTED ANTI-B IS FAR MORE FORMIDABLE IN NON-AMBIGUOUS WAYS! IT NEEDS NOT CONSUME CINDERELLA FOR ITS POWER anally raped!
I know what you mean, a few days ago I saw this game where you could play as a bald naked dude (well I think it was a dude they’d censored out the genetalia) and grapple with this hairy dude in a pair of briefs, I couldn’t believe my eyes at first, then this indian bloke in just aa loincloth thing came in for the next match and beat on a fat dude with his pubes out with stretchy limbs.
It was really weird.
Can’t remember the name of the game though, it was kind of fun but I prefer faster games and didn’t like some of the mechanics.
Either a) stop being wrong, b) stop being so obnoxious and arrogant while being wrong, or c) stop talking. This is like the 4th time in this thread you’ve gotten all smarmy while completely missing the point.
My thing was if he wasn’t talking about Melty, and the thread is about Melty (not Tsukihime), and more specifically, the gameplay and why people like it…than why is it relevant?
Its not. Unless this a joke I missed, saying the game is completely composed of women isn’t correct. Sidestepping the issue about whether it appeals to pedos/perverts is irrelevant. Granted Ben did talk about gameplay, but still…wtf does Tsukihime have to do with this game? Its pointless. Is the writing supposedly so bad to these people it keeps them from liking the game? Or even getting their facts straight?
Apparently you missed the thread of conversation that led up to that post that was all about character preferences with regards to age, gender, and other factors of design, in fighting games? Or do you just read the Ben Reed posts so you can bitch at him? And what Tsukihime has to do with the topic is that it’s part of why Melty is popular–because Tsukihime was popular in Japan, and it has Tsukihime characters. Take some time to read inbetween scathing retorts.
To me, I just don’t see where that’s going. The game has a ton of girls…big deal. I can understand not liking the designs, but really impacting gameplay?
Its like not really giving it a chance.
Again, Tsukihime is relevant; but not its writing. So you think the VN sucked. So that frowns on the game?
Point out where I said MELTY BLOOD’S cast was entirely female or shut the fuck up. Your defensiveness is becoming annoying.
Dr. B loves it when THE ANTI-B IS EVERYTHING THE REAL B IS NOT. WHERE B IMPREGNATES ALL, ANTI-B UN-IMPREGNATES WITH PREJUDICE AND ANTI-MAN JUICE all the way down!
Even though specs never said he disliked the game, and Ben Reed said specifically that he did like the game, even if it’s not his type of game. You should be irritated at your lack of reading comprehension.
Fair enough; I guess I got heated and judged incorrectly.
This isn’t specifically about melty; I just think games should be looked at and judged a bit more fairly based on how they play and the quality rather than what’s necessarily on the outside. Way too many good games get ignored because of that.
I only get annoyed by the hypocrisy of it, all (mostly all?) fighting games are from japan, and the character designs in all of them pretty much go back and forth from boring to weird. If you show any fighting game to someone who doesn’t play games, they would probably consider it ridiculous. It’s also weird a community so anti “scrub” would judge fighting games superficially, which seems like a pretty casual gamer thing.
I don’t have a problem with people liking manly stuff either, that’s why I said obsessed. I think liking manly stuff is pretty normal for a man, being obsessed with it is a little weird, and probably has something to do with insecurity in my not expert opinion. That’s different from just not liking girl dominated things though, which I just think is a common opinion, and people don’t bother thinking through common opinions, or their gut reactions.
I heard of Melty Blood once in like 2002, then never heard of it until the day when IT FUCKING WON THE PLAYERS EVO POLL!!
What an amazing turn of events for Melty Blood lol.
This will be the only game at Evo where I will actually leave the room and go play slots or something. No interest at all in this weeabo game. Now, dont start crying all about how SF and TvC are weeabo games too, they arnt.
