How? I’m really not seeing it. Most of the characters are large-breasted and wide-hipped and are designed to regularly have panty shots. Their storylines certainly don’t offer much in the way of femininity. Cerebella requires regular psychological validation from Vitale, who forces her to do bad things. Peacock was mutilated by men and it was a man who saved her. Parasoul and Valentine are both busty cheesecake “hotties” who relentlessly pander to men and one of them is overly dependent on a legion of men to do her fighting for her. The storyline as a whole features men who are regularly abusive to women, and don’t get much in the way of comeuppance, like that guy who groped Filia in her story mode or the other guy who harassed Minette and then casually decapitated Ms. Fortune. If anything the game is counter-feminist as many of these design decisions were made by men in the first place, which reflects poorly on them.
yeah, people are definitely turned off by a coherent story. Marvel players want a bad story! Stories play an important role in the popularity of fighting games!!
Well, it was literally going to be a TvC2 clone but with enough community feedback from people that actually know what they’re talking about Capcom actually listened and MvC3 didn’t come out as bad as it was originally going to be. SG right now is better imo but I think Capcom can still get it right with MvC4.
All the bold text in the quotes up above where written by me.
So let me get this straight, you claim that people want males because they want to play as “stereotypes” and “cliches” ( even though people have told you that’s not true in painstaking and rather excessive detail,) and then you criticize the male characters that are almost all anime/ stereotypes?
I guess I know why your username has the word psycho in it.
Most aren’t large breasted. Peacock, Filia, Painwheel and Ms. Fortune are half the cast. If you even look at the proposed DLC and ignore Umbrella and Annie it is stacked moreso with small breast and practically flat chested women.
As for wide hips this is so small its laughable you bring it up.
You have a point about the panty shots pandering to men but that in of itself doesn’t invalidate my point.
The story revolves around wish fulfillment fantasies for women. There is a drawback to that fulfillment but you can’t have a strong storyline without something that creates conflict. Even with the existence of the skullheart the game has promoted that certain women depending on their personalities and ambitions could give 2 shits about using it in the first place and successfully reject it.
You were on point with Cerebella and Peacock but you have a distorted view of the busty hotties. Parasoul as the current ruler utilizes (and not just relies) on her troops (which is a mix of men and women which you conveniently ignore) because that’s what a ruler is supposed to do. They are there to support her just like any peon is supposed to support their king/queen.
Valentine in none of her scenes pandered to men. She was either A) getting her ass kicked by Double, Marie or the Player character or B) bitchslapping everyone else. Valentine in spite of the massive losses her Lab Team suffered to Double and Marie was still playing a gambit of finding someone who could defeat both while being forced to work for them. It takes a lot of willpower and strength to overcome that fear of potentially being killed by Marie and Double in order to undermine them.
As for your claim about men not receiving comeuppance that is wrong in the Filia and Ms. Fortune storyline. It could have been correct with Painwheel but Brain Drain is an antagonist whose offense in the game isn’t sexually intimidating or objectifying women. His offense is using any means necessary to create a weapon that can take on the skullgirl. It is a moral problem but not one that revolves around women’s issues.
Unlike other games the women in this game have personalities and goals that don’t revolve around pleasing men aside from Cerebella.
I understand all your points but Filia definitely has large breasts and wide hips (not to mention dem thighs), and the DLC characters do have a decent amount of voluptious girls, but it is a good mix.
Sadly as soon as I heard the name SkullGirls I knew I wouldn’t play it. I got curious for a minute, looked at the gameplay and knew I wouldn’t even watch it on stream. (That being said there’s less games I’d watch than play.)
Skullgirls was everything I wanted MvC3 to be. I got into fighters seriously with MvC2 (or rather, that’s when I took the time to expand myself by learning the more technical aspects as opposed to learning solely by myself) and while it’s far from my favorite, I had a lot of fun with it. When MvC3 was announced, I was super hyped for it and hoped it would solve the issues I had with 2, but the game came out, it was LMHS blah blah blah hyper, X-Factor, TACs, and I haven’t even gotten to character playstyles and balance yet. It was fun when I didn’t play it seriously but trying to be serious just made the game boring for me.
Then SG came along and I can’t point out any consistent problem with the game. Like, literally the only thing about the game I dislike, isn’t even a problem with the game but just a design choice (which is having a sound a flashing white when you tech like in Arcsys fighters or MB).
