I’ve been seeing this alot lately; it’s happenned in the recent past (MK9 for e.g) but it seems to have gotten worse, starting with P4A, to calling DOA5 ‘Dead on Arrival’ and surprisingly TTT2 has become a victim too. This is a pretty new thing (considering the scale, especially during this era of internet connectivity).
Whether it stems from trolls/stream monsters or not, the negative stigma somehow influences and gets embraced by others…do people think it could be detrimental to the FGC (on a problematic scale)?
Simple life rules: Haters always gon’ hate. And those that are the most vocal about it are usually able to influence others’ opinions with very little evidence to back it up. Basically, if you keep running around and screaming that the world is going to end, odds are that people are going to believe it, and will in turn scream that the world is going to end. It’s the pack mentality that humans have to repeat vocalized statements with little regard to verification or evidence. It’s similar to moon conspiracy theorists who firmly believe that we never went to the moon despite overwhelming evidence in the contrary to refute their false claims.
Wow, I was expecting the first person to reply to insult the OP and receive a ton of likes for it.
Anyway, yeah I agree that declaring the game dead is not really healthy for the game’s community as it may discourage the players from playing the game. I know people sometimes joke about it and that’s fine, just make it a bit more obvious that you are joking because some people might take it seriously.
I think there is a lot to it. There is such a variety of current gen and older games that people want to play and watch. It is difficult to balance it since so many are prioritizing one over the others. Also, the haters are going to hate.
Because people have an inherent desire to see people fail if they themselves don’t win.
So if you have a favourite fighting game, you don’t want some other game to come along and steal the community you’ve been playing with. At least that’s why I think people hate on other games. I tell you, those Third Strike/ST fans can be the worst sometimes.
