And MODOK to some extent too (I have seen quite some people saying it)
Im not talking about tiers either, just that people completely dizz these characters and always go around claiming they are the worst characters of the game, and I know its most likely true (except for MODOK, I think he can be decent depending on the guy who uses him) but i’d like to know why speciffically are these characters considered bad.
MODOK is actually pretty damn good, at least B, it’s just that he takes a hell of a lot of work to use.
Hsien Ko has nothing going for her except the assist and Wright is Z tier except for a twenty second boost to S tier that relies on him putting himself in a vulnerable state that may not even pay off.
Phoenix Wright/Morrigan/Doom would’ve been too crazy if they didn’t nerf the PW assist.
This is talk probably best left for the tier discussion, but in general.
The most important characteristic of a strong character is having mobility options (i.e. Zero).
These characters can be where they want to, whenever they want to, and have a relatively easy time of putting you where they want you to be.
If their mobility isn’t as strong, it’s important that they have strong tools to make up for it (i.e. Taskmaster). These characters have a relatively easy time getting away or staying away from where you want them to be.
If they have neither of the above, they’re gonna be in the mid tier, sometimes redeemable by being strong in specific situations (i.e. Haggar).
If they have none of the above, or have to work really really hard to get the opponent where they want them, they’re considered bad (Wright, Hsien Ko).
To add to that, it’s a matter of hit confirming. You need to open up people or put hitboxes in the screen from which you will convert.
So yes, even if you have strong tools(Wright has one of the best set of hypers in the game), if you cannot move around the screen quickly, put hitboxes in the screen and open people up during pressure, they are bad.
Cause you have to somehow convert into damage.
And nobody who knows shit about this game considers MODOK to be of the worst in the game, he is just awkward to play compared to the rest of the cast.
MODOK is one of the best characters in this game. IMO, he is the hardest character to master but totally worth it.
Hsien Ko has one of the best assists in the game and she is one of my best characters, but she has serious mobility flaws. Give Hsien faster dashes and allow her to cancel the pendulum and she will become so much better.
I had a terrible opinion about Wright before but after watching some recent videos all I can say is that he hasn’t been explored enough. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a bad opinion about him but not as bad as before. Landing a clean hit with him may be his biggest problem and he still needs an entire team designed around him to be succesful.
I believe that Tron is having the hardest time right now because her point game was severely nerfed, her assist was also destroyed.
I have to admit, Invincible Gustaff Fire needed to go. No clue why they felt the need to nerf her point game, though.
Will post items of personal note plus comparison. Btw this could go in tier discussion to steer away from lol Zero.
Hsien-Ko:
slow walk speed.
Compare Haggar, whom at least does retarded damage.
No wave dash due to unique dash.
Compare Morrigan, whom makes up for it with godlike flight.
Slowest air dash.
Pick an air dasher. Any air dasher.
Anka hou projectiles are varied but random, low durability projectiles.
Compare Voomerang which are varied and controlled.
Less than optimal launcher.
At least Iron Fist hits like a mule when he gets in.
Only one worthwhile assist which then is only good after you spend a meter.
Arthur’s assists are quite better while in King Armor, and remain worthwhile while not in armor.
Insufficient health for character with such movement deficiencies. Compare Any heavy really.
P Dubs:
Relies on random to get somewhere remotely useful. There should be no false evidence.
Compare Chris who has various tools.
Compare Frank who must also level up to get good but at least can do SOMETHING when he’s limited.
Shit normals.
Iron man seems to have shit normals but simply require understanding.
If it was random what evidence you got but none of it was fake evidence I think he could survive in this game. That alone would give him something.
i wish thor was in mvc3
I don’t play him but people are seriously underrating M.O.D.O.K just because of how difficult it is to play him, He’s really solid when used correctly.
I think as far as Hsien-Ko goes, people only use her for the armored assist. otherwise shes garbage. She doesn’t have a lot of health and is an easy character to turtle against as she is slow, she also can’t zone as well compare to someone like a Magneto or Hawkeye for example and the properties of her projectile is really random too. She just feels extremely awkard overall.
Mr. Wright…I’m not too sure but I think as him you’re mostly reliant on being defensive and having assists while gaining evidence cause he can’t afford to be rushed down when he’s by himself. I’ve seen a setup that GX uses with Spencer that after he kills a character with a Hyper, he DHC’s Wright in to gain evidence before the next character comes in. It might work with others but I don’t know.
That’s just what I see out of them.
Abegen
MODOK is good in the right hands.
Hsien Ko assist is a boost to any team and the character can be difficult to play against. I don’t consider her the worst.
Phoenix Wright…yeah, he’s ass now. With his invincible assist, he was at least worth the trouble. Now, there’s no payoff for scrounging for clues.
I would put Ghost Rider before Hsien Ko as far as worst characters. He’s good at half-screen to 3/4 screen, but is absolutely useless close range or full screen. He can pick away at an opponent’s lifebar if they aren’t blocking J. S, but cannot fight aerial opponents, teleporters, characters with good counters (Ammy) or anyone that can zone fullscreen. This basically includes every good character in the game, save for maybe Haggar. He doesn’t do enough damage for a character that is difficult to find openings for and has no moves to really scare an opponent…A ground bounce move would make him so much scarier. He’s totally screwed if he is far down on life. As is, I can’t think of any reason to play him over Nemesis (who has a similar J. S and far better options otherwise).
Edit: Also Tron is in there.
So my top 5 worst:
- Phoenix Wright
- Ghost Rider
- Tron
- Jill (has potential, but not enough risk-reward)
- Hsien Ko
GX’s Phoenix Wright is godlike but I think he recognizes that he’s a bad character. If you see G.X lose a match in a set, he usually switches out Phoenix Wright for Hulk.
are you an idiot in general or just about marvel
Anyone who thinks Ghost Rider is worse than Hsien-Ko is out of their mind. I mean sure yea he’s not top tier, his mobility is so terrible but that doesn’t mean I think he’s bottom 5. Comparing the 2, Ghost Rider has better range overall, which I think stops him from being bottom 5.
Please produce a counterargument for what I posted about Ghost Rider if you feel different. I thought he had a lot of potential until I actually started playing him.
I feel Tron is better because her normals are better, although not by much. It’s a toss-up between these two, but Tron would likely ToD off a groundbounce and GR would need 2-3 good combos to kill Tron before that happens.
Jill…again, a tossup, mostly because neither character inspires much fear. I would think Jill played to her fullest would rushdown a Ghost Rider played to his fullest easily though (she can crouch under standing H).
And Hsien Ko has the best assist of all characters I discussed. That can’t be ignored and it is useful against a large portion of the cast. I don’t remember off-hand if her fireballs can go fullscreen or if they arc downward, but anyone that can zone gives GR fits. More often than not, GR is going to be point and Hsien Ko will be anchoring, so this matchup would rarely occur anyway.
please stop posting
Please contribute something useful to the argument.
Um gr and tron are both mid low… thor is lower

Ghost Rider is not worse then either of them. Ghost Rider is a HARD counter to some characters. He has several otgs decent assists. His problem is he hates teleporters and that who he beats he destroys those he loses to rapes him. He has no in between
Jill, bottom five? Stop.
