Srk needs the right incentive to make a game…that being said is there a kickstarter like site where instead of pledging money you can pledge hookers and blow?
Pretty funny, I also make that question to myself.
I know from some people that “develop” chars, stages, lifebars for mugen… but most of them are edited from original sources and I can’t talk about an attractive or unique fullgame made for that engine. Mugen seems to be the most popular choice of developers though. Even that, I can tell you of people that have done cool things for it.
I’m into the graphic part and I can say that it consumes time and you often need a good team if you really want to see a professional-level game.
Project M’s a mod, not a game. It is a very elaborate mod but it is still just that. It’s easier to bring the Smash community around a modified Smash, just like it’d be easier to bring the SRK community around a modified SF. But it is irrelevant to OP’s question because though it is a wonderful project it has none of the “the innovation, the inspiration and the risk taking of a new generation” aspect he is asking about. It succeeds precisely because it doesn’t take any risk besides the risk of being crushed by a C&D, doesn’t innovate, just expands on Nintendo’s own inspiration.
in that case the expectation of the people working on it is very different from someone working on a new game. There’s simply no way they could sell something like that so anyone part of the project would be coming at the project purely as a volunteer. It’s a labor of love type project. Furthermore, business considerations like distribution and funding are non issues.
Also, Project M was a team collaboration as opposed to SF4 remix that which is just Anotak and Zeipher. Or me tearing apart a some CPS2 and Dreamcast games.
Way more is going to get done on project m as there is more people to do the work and they focus on a single game.
Also commenting on your previous thread, Those are some excellent points.
Back to my earlier post, I said there enough talented smart individuals in SRK that, a small but talented group of people could make it happen.
For Christ sakes 4chan with there army of /b/tards made a game, its like a few of the rare people with brains on /v/ (despite it was a easier genera of game to make).
Despite what any nay-sayer want to spout, I personally seen some very remarkable and talented individuals that are members of this forum.
No one said it would be easy, and nothing easy worth doing. Seriously if you are interested in starting such a project or have ideas for one PM me.
If you are interested to let you know you are volunteering your time and not getting paid, but want to do it for the satisfaction of tackling a big project, getting it done and make something we can be proud in.

I am sick of hearing about the “Can’t” the word CAN’T never got anything accomplished.
I want to hear more “this-can-be -done” and “This-is-how-it’s-done”.
OP issued scenically issued a challenge, and I am saying CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!
No one is saying it can’t be done. We all know it has been done in the case of SG or is already being worked on like that Shattered game. Stop making us out to be cop outs. If you really want to do it go pick up a programming book and study up. Anyone can say they are doing it. Walk the walk.
I’ve spent more time in the data of fighting games then you could dream about. So quit, putting words in my mouth when all I said your example took way less work than a fighting game.
There is more engines out there right now for fighters that are free then 4 years ago. And you keep saying to do it but you’re not putting in any effort. Which goes back to my point of the tons of “Ideas men” out there that don’t work.
We’ve already had messages and threads about how it’s done. You learn a skill that’s going to produce something tangible, ie programming, scripting, drawing, and you produce enough of it that people with complementary skills will believe in you and join you.
But the thing is, if you fit the bill, you’ll do it anyway because you already have the motivation. You won’t wait until a supposed challenge comes up unless there is something tangible to gain out of it. They’re doing fine in other threads, for other reasons. If you’re saying you’re accepting the challenge, then prove it by producing something. Just saying “challenge accepted!!!” doesn’t mean anything and will not move anyone. You want to lead, lead by example.
Are you retarded? Nobody but you has said “can’t”. Everybody but you and ignorant-OP-who-has-wisely-disappeared has pointed out that this can be done and has been done. Probably most of us are laughing at the question while we look at published games such as SkullGirls, DiveKick, PlayStation All-Stars, Marvel vs Capcom 2 for XBLA/PSN, SF2:ST HD Remix, Killer Instinct, and a ton of other games that had have direct guidance if not project ownership by members of SRK.
Hey who is the final boss in SF4?
I’m having a hard time tolerating the stupidity in this thread. If you want to insult people, insult your own ignorance. I’m one further stupid post away from locking this thread. Please do not post talking about other’s “lack of” contributions because you’re going to look like a tool who does not know what they are talking about. This is an awesome and huge community and people have done plenty of excellent work on the fighting games we play and love, including creating new ones out of whole cloth.
Saying “YES!” and actually coming to the point where you have achieved something, even a minor building block that leads to the next, are two different things. Don’t expect people to take you seriously for a long time, don’t expect things to actually move as quickly as you want them (not remotely!)
And most important of all, remember that every person that is willing to join your ‘challenge accepted’, never forget that they are people, people with needs, ideas, but also timesinks like work, school, hobbies, girlfriends, wifes, children, etc. Prepare for small annoyances, people being late, people making mistakes, disagreements on how to tackle problems, disagreements on designs, the existence of problems that coud linger for a long amount of time, etc. Making a game isn’t a small thing.
Having talented people is nice and all, but probably second to the fact that the team I make Shattered with is even together after all this time.
Preppy it was not my intentions at all to insult anyone, I actually want to get a project started. I misunderstood peoples replys as negative.
Also Final Boss in SF IV is Seth, named after Seth Killian
I just the guy who saw the chance to do something and though why not try. With myself not saving anything I got nothing to show (yeah I know that looksvbad). So I guess I come back I can show off what I can contribute other than hardware modding.
Free Engines you could use to make a fighter.
Unity, EF-12, 2D Fighter Maker, Mugen, Stencyl, and so on. You don’t have to wait on or use Anotak’s or MikeZ’s engine.
You could poke around in fighter that is already done.
Like I’ve done during the Skullgirls free weekend.
I’d love to try my hand at this one day. My brother is a pretty accomplished programmer and we’ve talked about it before.
I have a good number of people whose opinions I respect and would ask to consult on the project. Of course, it’s difficult to get the proper funds, but I have a certain vision for the core gameplay. The art style, I haven’t given a second thought but I also have a good few artist friends as well.
I see Marvel 3 more as a symptom than a cause of the current generation of fighters. Imo the scrubbification started with SF4, but they obviously took their cues from the VG industry in general as all genres have been trending towards this for years. But most players don’t even realize how scrubby SF4 really is and how many elements of older games are completely watered down as a result.
I always get a kick out of seeing people try and play older games and yell out that the moves don’t work, lol.
It’s a sign of the times.
Maybe you can find your niche that likes a hard, competitively sound game, but most people will just gloss over it and move onto the next shiny thing. I wonder if it’s really a problem or if the larger player base (i.e. casual gamers) would even have been interested in fighting games 20 years ago if they had been initially lured in by something like Farmville.
Railing against it seems like a waste of energy. Maybe it’s better to try and promote games that emphasize well tuned gameplay first and show their merits first hand versus something that, for example, has X-factor.
