Just nerf Sent. Close thread.
I think X-factor is a cool and interesting mechanic. I think it can be a stepping stone to some pretty cool things in the future.
Now… I do think level 3 XF is too strong… but… why? I can’t actually think of other games where your strong tools have downsides built into them… bursts, supers, EXs, ultras, whatever.
Sent isn’t the problem, level 3 XF is… and Level 3 XF DPh and Wesker are far scarier than level 3 XF Sentinel. One other character in particular who’s better than all the rest, but for the sake of my tournament strategy I won’t say any more. Even though it should be obvious.
Um last time I checked there were serious downsides to most of what you listed.
Botched Ultra = Biggest punish ever
Burst use to make it so you couldn’t use barrier any more and even now it costs points from your block gauge. A bad burst also meant you were done because it left you vulnerable.
The downside is basically wasting it, which still exists with XF.
A lot harder to waste x factor than barrier burst. WAY Harder. The two aren’t even comparable.
Lol, my thread did the fusion dance with the old one.
Note that you don’t need level 2 or 3 to make insane things.

Hulks smashes the whole team with a xfactor into gamma crush, note they all have near full health and is used in the middle of a block string. That is, xfactor turns block strings into suicide.
No ones really talking about it (I guess because barely anyone is playing grapplers), but x-factoring out of blockstun to punish basically anything with a command grab super is pretty retarded.
most of the shit thats broken in the game is because of x-factor
Yep this is exactly what I was talking about before. X Factor turns random supers into team killers. I had something similar happen to me last night. I was up 3 characters to 1 and a full screen super caught me and an assist. Both died from that super.
I really like it because it means 3 on 1’s are no longer checkmates like they were in Marvel 2. At the same time though there definitely needs to be some damage distribution changes and the exponential damage increase is a bit high for some characters that already have the most damaging normals in the game. Sentinel KFCing in level 3 is designed for totally shit players to win, not a nice comeback mechanic in a tournament situation. Once they get that fixed overall i think X Factor is a really cool much smarter take on the ultra system in SFIV. It’s more like K groove where u have to worry about the fact that u only are going to get 15 or so real seconds to use it and if u do use it your opponent can always can always counter it with theirs or turtle u out till its done. Its not like SFIV ultra where it only really gives your character one more invincible special move that does a lot of damage and maybe like one other special property that could help you in a match.
X Factor literally creates new block strings for you, new combos, makes your assists stronger…it’s a much deeper concept IMO than just giving a masher something they can mash on and sit on the entire fight. Otherwise all ultras really do is just give u a few more situations u can combo into that u normally can’t or just let u punish one or 2 more things u normally can’t. Though since it lasts for the entire round and u get one every round it basically doesn’t do much but stop people from pressing as many buttons in a game where there’s already a ton of ways to stop people from pressing buttons and block string pressure is limited to jabs. Anything else gets blown up with a good read from a good player or a mash from a bad player. You just can’t force people into really powerful situations in SFIV unless u cover a bunch of bases through option selects and conditioning them all day to not reversal just so u can continue a super safe mundane uncreative offense that is typical of SFIV. Like dive kicks and jab strings.
