Sako is the best at VS hands down, and Daigo is nowhere near the best at GG, yeah he bodied us here back in the day but in Japan he was good but not the best. And yeah BAS is SFA3 and CVS2 definitly. Theirs a reason I almost changed my vote to CvS2 instead of Melty last year when he posted he would come to EVO last year if it got in.
Eddie Lee.
i mean japanese major, and while there are very good usa gg players, lets be honest the quality on the competition is not near the level of the japanese competition soley of the lack of matchup experience of many of the players (from different chars and different players of each chars), to put thinks in perspective even if daigo beasted the gg usa scene that doesnt change that he was just average on the japanese scene, just compare his sol with the sol of other players of that time and you would see what i mean
this is like comparing the greatest NFL players. they were all BEASTLY in their own years…comparing different generations just cant happen, as the GAME is constantly evolving.
That Remy player who ended up doing BDSM porn that Rock was talking about in his podcast.
He wasn’t even average, he was downright terrible by the time SBO '05 rolled around. Just watch his matches in the top 64 and you can clearly see he wasn’t practicing the game. He was decivisely beat by (iirc) Ten’s I-No (which is a very favourable match for Sol in #R). It was so bad in the second round that he was just going for random DPs (which will kill you in a game like GG, for those who don’t know), with the I-No player spending the majority of the round trying to kill him off with silly things like OTG 5D. That period was about the last that was seen of him in high level Japanese GG play.
tldr; Daigo was only “good” until he faced people who knew how to play.
Most consistent overall through the years of GG would probably be Ogawa, though he hasn’t been performing all that well currently.
Well i heard Daigo was pretty good at GG in the early years, so he definately was not the best at the game- but he played it back when it was hot.
Daigo will probably do the same thing he did with GG, if he loses badly at Marvel this years’ EVO
stupid thread. Its impossible to determine a greatest fighting game player. Most people won’t even agree on the best of an individual game. Not just that but virtually nobody on srk has first hand knowledge of the skill level of players pre 2000. Most people on srk have no concept of the skill level of players pre 2008.
edit: and anyone who doesn’t say kuroda for 3s is clueless. How many fg players have a set of dvds of them raping with almost every character in the game?
lol, again, daigo wasnt that good at gg back in the days, he was plain average, his performance on gg was barely average
and yeah i wouldnt be surprised if he leaves the mvc3 scene if his performance in evo doesnt go well
barely average in japan = bodying america
This one asian kid that used to play back in my hometown arcade in the 90’s. He doesn’t play anymore…
True. Its the same thing with Nuki in VF and Tokido in Tekken. Both of them can body most Western players but neither of them are among the best at those 2 series in Japan.
I think overall, the most flexible are Alex Valle, Justin Wong, and to extend Daigo and Tokido. They, especially Valle, are the only few I know that plays multiple series and be around the best at them. Justin dominating MvC2 alone for so long is impressive.
Nobody plays as many games at as high a level as Tokido does.
Dylan,Dylan,Dylan, and Dylan why? because I spit hot fire!
How could you leave Dylan off the list?
Justin Wong, Nuki, Tokido and Daigo are arguably the best FG players if you go by EVO results alone.

EVO is not the end all be all of tournament skill.
I can’t consider Tomo because look at justun. He dominated marvel for about 5 years. Then he got knocked off. The same would have happened to Tomo if he kept playing. He only competetive for about 2-3 years. No one was even able to catch up in time to consistently keep him off 1st place, but it would have been knocked off had he played longre. I know I will get hate for this but… He doesn’t count.
Who is better than Justin at MvC2? Its last appearance in EVO does not count, the game was not even supposed to be featured. And who lacked time in the SF2 era, when like 4 times more people played, and there were less games to divide the player base? All you could ever argue was availability of information.
As for that list, Otochun, Hakase, Daigo in his prime and others could be considered at his level.
