Who here uses an Octo-gate on there JLF?

what did you do to make the throws smaller? i have a cherry mod done to mine along with new ls-33 spring put inside my stock one… i want the throws to be shorter but i heard that electrical tape starts to peel off and shrink tube doesnt “feel” right… any other solutions? besides buying a new stick of course…

i would say … just keep up with the tape … i DID the tape mod for a while … and just got fed up with putting tape and taking tape out so i went back to the square gate and didnt look back … the tape feels good and the octo gate with a short throw is excellent … if there was a more permanent solution i wish i could say… if something comes up let me know … how do you know the shrink tube doesnt feel right?? have you tried it?? i figured itd feel like the electrical tape.

i just switched my octo gate back to square last night because of the tape issue. It kept coming off and sticking to the gate and I had to keep on replacing it. I had enough and just went back to square gate.

I use an octo gate in my TE and modded SE and I’ve never attempted to make the throw smaller. Just like the feel of all the corners when i play and I also use charge characters and it doesn’t hinder me in HDR or IV

I don’t think that the ultimate mod is supposed to be used with the octogate, just the square. But it’s a mod so I guess it doesn’t matter. Stick with square, it’s a better gate overall.

I use both…

Im alil more comfortable with the oct gate cause ive been a Happ player all my life

The square gate took some getting used to.

I learned on the octo gate and just use it stock.

I tried using an octo gate, but after using a square gate for so long I went back to square. I’ve found it’s easier for me to just keep track of only 4 points rather than 8. That and I didn’t hit diagonals as effortlessly with the oct, as I can with the square.

I just put an octagonal gate in my stick and I’m never looking back. I effing love it. The throws aren’t really that big, are they?

me 2 man i love it… the square just doesnt seem right for shotos, i love the octo how u can follow the edges and do a hadoken… it makes move so much easier, just wish it had tad shorter throws…

Yea Octo is easier on QC and DP moves, but i found the square gate amazing for Gief for example !

But i like how the Octo holds your position for you, it makes it easier.

As for the actuator its worth experimenting with different kinds of tape for the final layer. Amazingly im using brown tape as the final thin layer at the moment, and its holding up really well, where electric tape became sticky in no time. Its not cutting or anything.

is it easy installing the octogate on the jlf? thinkin about buyin one

Think of the biggest ho you know, then multiply her by two, thats how easy it is to install an Octogate.

Just clip off and clip on dude.

been using one a bit, no other mods to the JLF and I am undecided on it. the throws are definitely longer but I am not feeling the electrical tape route. I have found that I am compensating by shortening my throws and not tapping the gate which I guess kind of removes the point of having a gate at all. I will likely drop an extra spring in her when I get a chance but its about 50/50 wether i go back to the square

If you are having trouble with the electrical tape getting sticky with time, have you tried using some heat shrink tubing put on the actuator instead. I havent personally done it, but there was someone posting here with success using this before. I imagine that the heat shrink tubing should work quite well with a solid and even thickening of the actuator on all sides and it should not degrade quite as fast as electrical tape would, as it would have no seams coming undone.

umm does the japanese players prefers square gates ? because the TE is square gate right !?

Typically, Japanese cabinets have square gates and American have octoganol gates.

thanks for the info ^.^

same here…i don’t have any problem with the throws, even without the tape mod.

no they don’t
