don’t American cabinets have round gates?
I learnt on square gate on a jlf. But I use a octog atm on my seimitsu ls 33. I prefere the seimitsu with octagon.
I believe so.
Home Depot, Lowes and Menard’s should have nylon spacers you can use to fit around the shaft, which may help.
Dam, super massive hardware stores are the only reason i wish i lived in the States lol.
Japanese have Round Gates. (GT-0 for JLW, available Round for LS-32 also.)
Japanese have Square Gates. (GT-8F for JLF, Seimitsu has Square too.)
Japanese have Octagonal Gates. (GT-Y for JLF, available Octagon for LS-56 too.)
American does not use any Gate.
On Joystick like Happ Super and Happ Competition, they do not use any.
That is why there is a circular feel, because there is no Gate, and has circular inside.
What gates are used for official SFIV and Blazblue cabinets?
Both Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue use Vewlix Cabinet.
Street Fighter IV is on the Vewlix F.
BlazBlue is on the Vewlix L.
Both has Sanwa JLF.
Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK-W to be exact.
Both JLF use the standard 8-Way Square Restrictor Gate.
i used an octo gate when i first got my jlf just because i used ryu and got stuck in the corners on the square gate. did the ultimate mod except i used heat shrink around the actuator instead of electrical tape. recently i added more character variety to my game, i picked up chun-li and the octo gate killed me. i would think im hitting the corners but i wasnt. i threw in the square gate recently and havent gone back. the square gate with the ultimate mod is love. just learn not to ride the gate, and you will be alright.
Switching back to square when I get my next batch of parts from LL and have to open my stick again. I spent too much time with the square and the octo just doesn’t feel right to me anymore. Did add a LS-33 spring and that really makes a huge difference. I highly recommend that.

Yep, fair enough, thanks for the correction.
Just curious, what parts are used in 3D fighting games like Tekken, Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter?
Not riding the gate and trying to perform really quick motion is really hard I find… I can’t perform double QCFs consistently on my SE yet and I’ve had it for a week; it is my first time playing with an arcade stick but still =/ I don’t have nearly as much trouble on a happ or octo gate; I know square gates are really good for charge characters but what kind of advantage does it net you as a shoto for example? I know you musn’t ride the gate, but then again, you are FORCED to ride it at the bottom and the right/left when performing a hadouken, for example, otherwise nothing registers; my problem lies in the fact that I do not know when my left/right is too high and I often end up jumping instead, especially when I don’t have the time to input my motion slowly (i.e under pressure)… I know practice makes perfect but it annoys me that something as basic as controlling my character is such a hurdle D:
I have an octo gate on my JLF… and I’ll let you know how I do with it as soon as I put it in my box (less then a week). For me, I’ve always had trouble telling where forward stopped and forward up began.
Another issue I’ve often had is the Shoryuken. Too often instead of DF, D, F, I would press DF, D, DF, F. Same thing when I do those Ultra moves that require you to move the stick from B to F without hitting any oher direction. The XBox analog controller has such a small dead zone that I just about can’t ever do it. For me, I want a fairly large dead zone around the center so I can miss hitting directiosn I don’t want. Sure, I’m a scrub, but I’m older, so I can excuse myself for riding the edge. I guess growing old means that you play games to have fun rather then to be the best.
well i put some electrical tape around the actuator and put scotch tape around that to make it hold better… so far so good… im having a tiny bit of trouble with 2qcf ultras such as ryus… i can do the ultra but sometimes a srk comes out instead… its hard when your diong the move fast which less time… i.e. fa someone to ultra, or srk fadc cancel to ultra which i havent been able to do yet
what difference did adding the spring do?
is dashing more responsive?
are double qcf easier to pull off?
dashing more responsive
i use both gates. on my sf4 te stick i use the square gate just because i like the way it feels on super turbo and sf4. for my hrap3 i use octo gate because i found it to be better for the way i play on guilty gear and i’m pretty sure i’ll be using it for blazblue as well. it’s all about preference. just try out both and see how it feels, but don’t get discouraged if your moves don’t come out right on the first day. try each one out for about a week or two and that should be enough to show which one is right for you.
What is this ultimate mod everybody is referring to?
