I’ll admit that as much as we writers try, we can’t really cover everything and that our own personal preferences for games can affect what we post since it’s more likely that we’ll check the sites dedicated to those (e.g. Angelo doing Skullgirls stuff, me doing more DOA or GG news).
Also, we are trying to be more professional and, aside from trying to focus on actual news over videos (at least in my case) we’re trying to schedule stuff so news doesn’t just get buried under a mountain of new posts.
You gotta take the good with the bad.
Personally, whenever there’s too much bad shit being tossed around, I go back to my home in Tech Talk so I can just look at all the good/amazing shit that people there are doing for the community.
My problem is that the site is host to a lot of non-news articles that are there for curiosity clicks (I’m trademarking that phrase) or just boobs ala a DeviantArt article. The comments don’t add very much either.
I used to have a Yahoo mail account and aside from Yahoo mail being a lot slower compared to Gmail and other minor issues. I hated having to go to the Yahoo website and being pelted with obnoxious ads and news articles written by 16 year olds. If I go to a website for one thing (Mail, Fighting Game news, etc) I don’t want to wade through pointless bs.
I get the site needs ad revenue but this isn’t the way to do it. I know a couple of newspapers that tried to go this route and they weren’t too successful. What makes you guys think that an even more niche site would be successful at this?
The only problem I have with sites forcing me to view ads is that I have never intentionally clicked an ad, and never will. In fact, I already have “ad blindness”, which means my mind automatically blocks out anything that looks like an internet advert. So forcing someone like me to watch ads is really fucking stupid.
Anyway, installing noscript kills their adblock detector. It’s not a Javascript-heavy site anyway.
EH isn’t even relevant.
I mean, EH articles are this…
33.3% - random bullshit, like “who’s your favorite SF character?” or "Check this fan art out!"
33.3% - Copy and paste from Capcom Unity or SRK, 1-2 days after the original was posted, aka outdated shit I read elsewhere. (EDIT: Add ATP, Dust Loop, Tekken Zaibatsu, etc. to that list)
33.3% - Complaints. More right after VXG and the collusion nonsense too.
0.1% - Worth reading.
