I personally don’t think they should add all the SF2 characters this time, much as I love them. They should focus on bringing back characters from the older series who didn’t get any spotlight i.e. SF1 characters like Retsu, Geki and Joe; Alpha characters like Karin, R. Mika and possibly Eagle; SF3 characters like Alex, Oro and Q (but not the twins or the sucky designs like Necro or Twelve, please!) They should also replace Guile with Charlie/Shadow and end his story once and for all.
I’d like to see the 12 warriors from SF2 HF return because those are the staples of SF imo and define the franchise.

- 5 new characters
Give me Juri and I’ll shut up.
Posted this in the save 3 thread already.
Haggar can be in, at the expense of Zangief. Both would be overkill. Anyways diversity is the most important thing and you know what that means? With limited roster spots, there should only be one shoto, only one of the twins, only one doll if any. There should be a lot of new characters, the returning ones should be as diverse as possible. Anyways something like this.
-Karin
-Ryu (no other shotos)
-Charlie or Guile
-A doll (preferably that hasn’t appeared before)
-Yun or Yang
-Balrog
-Dudley
-Alex
-Makoto
-Ibuki
-Rose
-Gen
-Eagle
-Vega
-Bison
-Dhalsim
-Juri
-Viper
-Haggar
-Chun Li
That is already 20 characters, then fill out the rest of the spots with brand new characters.
I think Ken should be in but after that no more shotos
I’d like to see 4 from each previous iteration and 5-8 new characters.
From SF2: Ryu, Guile, Chun, and Gief
From Alpha: Sakura, Karin, R. Mika, Charlie
From SF3: Urien, Oro, Sean, and Alex
From SF4: Rufus, Abel, Juri, and Poison
urien, yang, alex, necro, hugo

1- Who will be in
I think Capcom will not make the SF3 cast revolution mistake, SF4 success showed that SF2 nostalgia sell
I believe the Start cast will have some of the most famous/iconic ones from each group, plus hopefully a good amount of new faces
Also popularity will be a factor, character like Akuma, Sakura, Cammy and so on
2- Who Should be in
Keep in mind i’m thinking at the game image, imagining wich faces will give the game the right feeling
I hope for the original SF2 to be all in or very heavy represented

Cammy and Fei Long, because Cammy ass is iconic and Fei is the fucking Bruce Lee
They can even make step in a “successor” for some of the less untouchables (sim, honda, blanka?) but keeping the chara design succession straight… example Charlie in SFA was an acceptable “new guile” because visually fill that spot, Remy was not lol
Keep the best of SF3
Basically kill not-so-great new characters like twelve, sean, remy. Maybe necro too
This will give me that classic SF vibe that SF3 cast revolution kinda lack
Ok now you got a style that will satisfy both SF2/SF3 nostalgic, bring in A LOT of new characters
New characters are the key. With solid classic chars in the iconic look is already achieved, you have to bring in a lot of new concepts that respect SF art/style concept
MY ideal proportion
10 from SF2 + 10 from SF3 + 10 new faces
Well if the news that there will be only 16 characters in the first version of SFV, then I got to revise my list.
4 New characters
12 returning characters…consisting of
-Ryu
-Chun Li
-Karin
-Eagle
-Makoto
-Dhalsim
-Alex
-Juri
-Gen
-Guile
-Ibuki
-Bison
C.Viper
Assuming this game takes place after SF3… if Sakura returns, she needs a new/older look.
if there’s no Adon, I’ll be pissed. he’s the one character that I’m learning (albeit late) in sf4
I’m honestly fine with making the roster 40+ characters again at some point. Makes for good dream matchups and also extends the longevity of the game. Pretty much the only thing that has bored me with ST is the fact that it has <20 characters. As long as they don’t make stupid looking characters or characters with retarded play-styles, I’m in.
SF has too many iconic characters that eventually people will start to miss a certain character.
Kind of disappointed Ryu is in the game again, I’d like them to take a risk and try and sell a game without him. Anyway, It’s probably going to be aside from Ryu and Chun…
Ken, Guile, Dhalsim, Blanka, Zangief, Vega/Claw or Balrog/Boxer not both, Bison/Hat, and Cammy from SF2 series
Birdie, Karin, R. Mika, and Maki from SFA series
Sean, Necro, Q, Urien, Alex, Makoto, and Oro from SF3 series
C. Viper, El Fuerte, Rufus, Juri from SF4 series
Pick either 20-25 or 15 and 5 or less new characters and then add 10 characters as DLC with 1 coming every 2 months and you have a good game supported well after launch.
Aside from Ryu/Chun I want to see:
Ken - With a bigger focus on his crazy kicks as his main style of play.
Karin - Should be the main rekka character of the game. I loved her counters in A3 as well.
Alex - He would work a lot better in a game without parries and he was simply tons of fun to play. My favorite grappler.
Charlie - Because I think no SF should go without a guile-like character and because we haven’t seen Charlie in a while. With guard crush confirmed to be in the game I think we could see a much more active kind of sonic boomer, similar to CvS2 Guile.
Yun - Peak divekick character. Tons of fun to play.
Akuma - With a more rushdown style of play. SF4 Akuma was by far his most boring iteration. See: 3S/CvS2 Akuma for how to do him right.
On Akuma and Ken…according to Ken Bogard characters will have different stances that will change how they play. I think they could be incorporated into Ryu stances. Akuma stance, Ken stance. This would save the very limited roster space (only 16). I mean if you have Ken, Ryu and Akuma that is 3 shotos who have a ton of overlapping qualities, making up almost 1/4 of the roster.
I think (and hope) the main characters of SF are either part of the initial roster or end up in after all the expansions. Capcom tried to release a non-SF2 roster in SF3 and was met with fan backlash, that’s why Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Chun-Li are featured in it.
The characters are too big for their own good, which is fine by me. I play SF because of characters like Cammy, Akuma, Dee-Jay, and so forth. They’re memorable, they look great, and they’re iconic. Give me a new gameplay mechanic and its enough for me to get hooked. I’m definitely open to new characters but I WOULD demand that they include all the classic characters of the past. Its just not SF without them.
EDIT: Just thinking about it, all the other franchises also have their core characters that are always present. When was the last time you saw a Tekken without a Mishima, or a Mortal Kombat without Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Liu Kang?
LOL watch Capcom put ALL original 16 characters from SF2. No alpha or 3s. I’d rage…
Please don’t waste 12 character slots to bring the whole SF2 HF cast yet again because they’re “legacy”. This is not a CD album where you have to pay for the filler tracks in order to get the big hits. A chunk of them haven’t been pulling out their weight and are worth discarding in order to try either new characters or some lesser known ones. SF4 already exploited that nostalgia, they need to pull something different this time.
For the final full version, I think that something like 8 SF2 + 8 SF3 + 8 Alpha + 6 new could work. 30 characters is enough and that cover all bases.
Depending on what timeline this occurs in, if it’s after 3S or slightly before… You can have Alpha, but don’t make them the exact same as Alpha Characters. If you add Sakura make her an Adult and fix it so she doesn’t run like a derpy kid.
I’m hoping for Urien, Necro (really doubtful), Alex (Guaranteed), Oro, Q, and Sean.
I’m hoping for new characters too, and I don’t want Alpha unless it’s Sakura reworked a bit, Sodom because I think a darker Sodom would work. with this system. Lastly, Birdie… hear me out though… You saw Chun-Li Launch Ryu and do a 1-2-3 SBK in the air, Birdie launches and does his chain throw to finish the combo would be dope.
