What she said though any respected Vega player will make sure you never get near them. Their cross ups will most likely dominate thus they also own the air so stay out of there unless you’re close of course. Ultra 1 is devastating in this instance though. And yes, Canny is probably the worst match up for us narcissist lovers…
Vega beats Blanka. Other characters you mentioned can be difficult, but you can usually control the fight against Blanka with superior buttons and plain ol meaties.
Nj.hk, jb.mp, jb.hk, airthrow, etc. Vega has options against jumps. Use em.

Not anymore, there was a time you would see random Gens just jumping around doing crane j.mk but the character is pretty rare nowadays to come across online and all that are left are the specialists that stuck with him, heh.

Also thats so true about Gen, every time I fight one they know a lot about the character and have the most ambiguous setups you can think of - unfortunately most of the time thats just pretty much where the impressive part ends, their fundamentals are usually not that good mostly because of just how far shennanigans and anti airing can get you online.
Exactly. I’m working on the Gen handbook (like the Makoto one) since it was never finished, and I am really putting the emphasis on Gen being first and foremost a footsie character (and a very strong one at that). People get too easily fooled into playing Gen based on the cool Oga crossup setups and ambiguous jumpins. Those are all fine should not be your core gameplan, they should be secondary to your bnb combos and pokes. Ironically most of these type of Gen players can’t even do his main 1 frame link bnb after a jumpin (mantis c.lk>c.lp>TC2xx lk gekiro), but they do know the entire list of characters they can oga crossup after a forward throw!!!
It also hurts the perception of the character in my opinion.
As a Sakura player i fear seeing Guile, Honda & Blanka.
Ibuki, El Fuerte, Cammy, Chun & Makoto always make me go oh shit lol.

But recently, I had trouble with good Blankas. They seems to counter my every move. Then I found that fighting them offensively on the ground worked wonders. Now they ain’t a problem.
I still hate Cammy though and El Fuerte. Can’t say I hate much else with Vega at least.
For some reason I just can’t deal with Vega well at all. The entire gimmick of being this ADHD narcissistic piece of shit that jumps and flies around really throws my game off, and it has since vanilla. I know everything I should do as Gen, I know he can never do a FBA if I have super and ultra, or do a flip. Still I lose way too much to any Vega and it pisses me off beyond reason.
I’m sorry to hear that. Pray I never fight you. But recently I’ve been getting into Gen and he is pretty great to use, been using Cody too. But I find other Vegas who just have a jumping game and have no other offensive capabilities are wasting the best of this character. I’ve completely overwhelmed and destroyed any other Vega in my path, and that’s because they don’t know any other strategies even when they’re B ranks. Pathetic of them. Otherwise, I found quite a pain in higher rank players who have been focusing and absorbing my izuna drops. But suplexing them works or just bluffing and doing some other attack does too. If you play against one my friend, absorb those dives and retaliate but don’t abuse it. They’ll catch on if they know how to play him.
Oh I should have mentioned: I meant online only. I don’t think I have ever met a solid vega offline. It’s just that online vega is like a tier higher because you can hardly react to random EX FBA or that other EX move I don’t know the name of. Besides that the whole character just pisses me off, it’s Always the same.
Round starts: vega does hopkick and tries to throw or he starts out with a roll. I jump in because he’s free, he does a backflip, I try to punish but I mistime due to him having 2 backflips with different timing. Vega does a c.fierce into EX FBA, even though I blocked the c.fierce Vega still decides to go YOLO on me.

I live with a full time Vega player and punishing backflip is easy if you’re right in his face. No Vega uses double backflip cause even if it surprises you you can punish him anyway, it takes forever.
As a Dan player, chasing this asshole across the screen for a half hour every day gives me fits, but when you catch that fucker he has no chance of getting out unless you really fuck up.
