I understand that SRK is a racially diverse culture. Being an integrated bunch, I believe a lot of our social tension could be alleviated if we knew a little more about everybody’s cultures.
For example, I am a white person. Everybody knows that Asian people love rice and black people love fried chicken, but it seems like there is comparatively little information about what white people like to eat. This is one of many issues that could be alleviated by a thread like this.
This thread was inspired by a recent conversation in the Lounge about potatoes. I love potatoes. You may not know this about white people, given our notorious secretiveness, but we use potatoes in practically every meal. This is a vital part of white metabolism. No meal is complete without potatoes.
As far as beverages go, coffee and craft beers (AKA microbrews) are staples of our cultural heritage. Some white people have experimented in complex, highly specific variations on coffee; others opt for the more traditional cup with optional cream and sweetener. This is just one example of the variety you’ll find when studying the ins and outs of white culture.
Being only one of several white people that SRK has access to, I encourage my countrymen to step up and share a little something about our mysterious, oft-misunderstood culture with the rest of humanity.
The floor is now open to additions, questions, etc.
For the same reason people buy comics and see movies about superheroes whose creators received no residual payments and died in relative poverty: you should get to do whatever you want, no matter who gets screwed.
By caving in and buying a toy after a short contrived speech. The white guilt extends to even parents who think they’ve been too hard on their very own.
+1 on potatoes. I could eat baked potatoes for dinner for the rest of my life. If I was ever in the mood for something else, that something else would also have potatoes in it.
We punish our children in ways that relate specifically to what they did wrong and teach them lessons about the world that extend further than the short-term fear of physical reprisal.
We also read to them and don’t let them listen to hip hop until they’re old enough to sneak out and listen to it without our permission.
