Whip it, whip it good - The Poison GD Thread

So…I see this alot online and i cant really wrap my brain around it…people are saying and doing this alot…the charge cancels…as a way of effectively building meter…for some reason or another I can’t really agree with this…with any character…it takes roughly 15 charge cancels to build 50% of one bar…thats not really effective…

having your normals blocked gives you more meter then this…if you hit confirm combo Cr. :lp: ~ Cr. :lp: ~ Cr. :mk: > WoL gets blocked it still gives you a decent amount of meter, getting 4 of those blocked gives you 55-60% meter of 1 stock.

im going to investigate this further…

anyone else think Poison’s just too much fun to play as?

its hard not picking her…like why do you make other teams…lolz but seriously shes a blast to play…winning with her…is another thing as that is getting progressively harder by the day…

o_O really? im quite the opposite actually, everyday I’m finding new stuff and tricks/setups to use and gain more experience against all the new characters in this game. My winrate has been going up thats for sure.
Last night I had a 20+ winstreak in our local session here and my Poison did most of the work. Shit was dope =D

TEACH ME T_T

I not saying my win % is changing but people are learning the match up it seems at a alarming rate o_O
it mite be that or im fighting stronger opponents…so thats a factor…so idk. im learning new things too…its just that things are not getting that much easier like i though things would…

Poison Should have an infinite or at least a loop with her (I’m using her, k?) jaguar kick move. It links into a certain low punch which can cancel again into whatever.

how would that even be possible…did you even check the frame data before posting? the moves start up is far too slow to even make that possible…and because you have an infinite(which is a bad thing mind you) don’t make a good character…we are not in the age of games like MVC2 where that kind of thing was the norm.

yes you can combo out of it…thats about it…only juggled opponents can be combo’ed into it…

Edit (edit link not working right currently)

I was a slowbro. also didn’t pay attention to the last few pages.
but yeah try looping it if you haven’t already.

. . . you can’t loop it period
the opponent will recover way before your able to land another rep of her love me tender o_O

i mean the fact you can’t even combo into it on the ground with normals wasn’t a sign enough…

hmm well yeah people will learn after getting hit by the same stuff over and over, its probably easier vs Poison too as she’s pretty much basic overall.
personally i like that. It helps me learn stuff thats actually useful against good players rather than derpy gimmicks that’ll get me blown up at majors =P

1 thing i noticed is that c.lp>c.lp>c.mkxx CADC c.lp loop is pretty neat against characters that dont have good reversals, i had a Paul locked down by that for like 20 seconds straight  Needs more testing but its seems like a decent way to get back in if they blocked your strings… and you can easily mix it up with throws, releasing the fireball rather than cancelling it, LmT, DPs to catch them pressing buttons etc…
Poison is one of the few with a legit throw game and i fuckin LOVE it ^(^-^)^

Lol its just fundamentals man. Poison is a footsie heavy character with a few neat zoning tools. Just be patient and play smart, its all basic SF stuff with her. Her pressure tactics are only useful if you’ve caught people pressing buttons, if theyre not afraid of pressing buttons she cant really rushdown properly. So MAKE them afraid be it with frametraps, DP or her awesome pokes, then go to town with LmT nonsense, CADC mixups and throw shenanigans.

i bought a PVR a few days ago so once it arrives I’ll start recording some of our local matches.
Hopefully it’ll show some helpful stuff (and maybe you all give me some notes and stuff to use/work on as well ^_^)

Well I’m a Marvel player, so basically I have no fundamentals. I’ve been getting a little bit better. Ultimately, I wanted to use SF x T as the bridge to SF4 for me. We’ll see how that works out.

@ Blaze, indeed…if the block string is tight enough you can build almost a bar of meter by repeating that. I found out through trail and error that Cammy and Lili both have throw game too(Cammy more so) so i can use some of my old Vanilla SFIV tricks, but its cool Poison is plenty effective if your solid.

I still dont like the idea of CADC as a means to build meter by itself but i totally approve of it during block strings, Blaze you gotta master doing close :hp: CADC into close :lp: its so stupid good(my execution isn’t that good as im on pad atm and i feel like im going to run into some snags soon~)

don’t do that…SFxTK has different core fundamentals then SFIV…if your going to play SFIV then play it…but SFxTK isn’t exactly middle ground…if you get what i mean.

CADC for building meter is great. I use it a lot when I don’t want to throw a fireball, I just keep charging and backdashing for some extra meter.

Agreed. Gimmicks will stop working after a week or two, but solid play will always work. Poison might not have damage, but she has everything else. It’s a lot easier to step up your game with her.

Jamp you get about a sliver of meter…a blocked jab gives the same about of meter as CADC. however if it works out in the end then shit…I can’t argue with success.

Does Poison even have Gimmicks?(besides her overhead) i mite be oblivious to it.

A silver of meter from fullscreen without having to risk getting counterpoked by whiffing normals with the bonus of baiting anti-fireball moves/jump-ins and being able to zone if I feel like it or keep CADCing fireballs for even more meter? It’s damn useful.

And she does have some gimmicks like doing a poke into LMT - pretty easy to tag her out of it if the guy is mashing whatever, so I consider it a gimmick - and some other stuff not worth using.

I swear Jamp you must use Divine Speed gems with Onslaught…because thats the only way I see the sliver turning into a bar of meter anytime soon…because you gotta CADC like 15 of those to get any decent meter…your trying hard!

but abusing LMT is just a bad thing in general…I only use it in combos, after a anti air, or punishing small or terrible projectiles…

I’m not saying I stop there for 10 seconds and CADC until I get a stock, I mix it up, throw a fireball, get a bit of meter and bait stuff. It’s just something I integrate in my zoning plan, not something I rely on.

oh ok…for a minute there…i though you did what i see people online do(they do exactly that…charge…backdash…repeat)
but that is a pretty sweet gem set up mind you…the meter gain is stupid.
