I’m with you there. However, we need to remind ourselves that Poison getting mainstream attention is still relatively new, and we still need to be patient with those who still need to get it out of their system.
I’ve learned a long time ago to take these types of analyses worth a grain of salt. If I really want to play a character, I just absorb what tips I can and try to make it work. Sometimes it works well (MK9 Reptile, Nemesis), other times I just don’t mesh well with the character (M.O.D.O.K., SF4 C. Viper).
By the way, did anyone notice anything unusual about her story mode ending?

The gender jokes just need to be taken in stride. Like how you cannot talk about Zangief for more than 6 posts without someone making a joke about his Russianness. It’s part of the character, so it comes with the territory.

If it’s some newbie to the thread I’m a little more lenient but someone like Kuma who knows the deal or the regulars of the thread? C’mon coming in here just for a lame joke is incredibly weak and makes me wish I could neg rep posts like that. I get what your saying but coming into a Poison thread to make a Poison gender joke is extremely redundant because if that person had a brain they’d guess everybody in a thread like that has already made them or heard them. I had to get that point off my chest that at this point those just make me ( and others) roll ours eyes. I would really want this thread to be about taken Poison seriously because Capcom could have easily made her a joke but gave her a very serious toolset so we should at least try to take the thread more serious and not have it be about goofy jokes.
Of course I’m sure others disagree but we are at 22-23 pages we’ve had time to goof off already, NOW is the time to get ready to start discussing match-ups, favorite and most suitable partners,etc,etc imo.
I would rather talk about gameplay myseld but without the game in my hands. . . Not much i can say atm. and those with the game early are lucky sob’s but w/e ill get my copy on the 6th. So since the first time i saw people playing poison i thought she looked kinda like a new super4 rose to a certain extent
Good set of safe ranged normals, a slow & sort of annoying projectile, no real “mixup” game outside of counterhit setups, and no particularly fantastic way out of pressure… Is this ACTUALLY the case or am i seeing things?

the reason the poison jokes will never stop is no matter what anyone says…there has never really been anything about poison in game that told you straight up she was really a man…it just seems like a joke capcom made to mess with everyone a joke that got out of control quickly it makes some people wonder if chun li’s a man or if cammy’s a man because with capcom you just don’t know…

with poison? it’s a toss up in game it could go either way but i say poison’s a girl just for the fact that nothing looks too fishy about her there’s nothing that makes her stand out as not being a born female

And THIS is pretty much what it all boils down to. Between history, memes, and quotes from game makers, Poison’s gender status was never really up for debate. How people may feel about it is something else entirely. I’ve found that for whatever reason, people have a tendency to feel confused or even disturbed. This is especially true when the person does look particularly good (the general reaction to Kayo Police at Evo 2011 was pretty telling to me).
This gets even more complicated when we’re taking about consumer goods. At some point, Capcom had a moment when they realized “Oh snap, this character is more important than we thought. We can’t be our usual goofy selves! We need to to think about this!” This is why we’re seeing all these PR statements about not wanting to alienate any fans (or potential buyers) of the game or Poison herself. Ultimately, she just turned out to be a bit more progressive than Capcom expected, but at least they seem to be handling it decently enough so far.
I’m sure that this sort of subject has been analyzed far more properly by people with actual backgrounds in sociology. I would rather leave it to them than some guy on the internet who can’t sleep at 6am.
Until launch day comes and we get the character forums up and running, this is just how it’s going to be. I still have a loaded weekend and a midnight release party with my Tekken bro to look forward to, so I can wait lol
I usually compare her more akin to shotos, but she’s somewhat close to Rose as well. Her projectile is similar in a way but it’s much better since it has good recovery. She has a mixup game - you can charge cancel normals to continue pressure or go into grabs, she has two overhead moves, safe special moves that actually leave her at frame advantage, and so on. And while she has no “get out of jail card” defensive option, she has plenty of options including a DP that hits crossups.
beg to differ on the fireball. it has GREAT start up and bad recovery.
reminds me a lot of Rose. her far reaching normals with the whip will remind you of the scarf.
her dp is very odd in a good way. seems like it never trades if you do it VERY late. dps trade a lot in this game.

Recovery shouldn’t be a problem since we can charge cancel it.
