Which game to start out on?

I’m brand new to the fighting scene (I have played Soul Calibur V, but not competitively, and UMvC3 but also not competitively). What game would you recommend to a newbie to get into the competitive fighting scene. I played SSF4 AE a little bit, and it seemed pretty interesting to me, but I was just awful at it. P4A looks pretty interesting to me. Any tips on which game to start on and how to go about starting would be greatly appreciated!

If you’re new to fighting games you should play SF4. It’s easy to learn, got great depth, and it will really lay the foundation for better 2d fighting growth for years to come.

Eh. I disagree. Sure, SF4 will teach you footsies, but that’s about it, and it has room to build a number of bad habits with its input shortcuts.

If P4A interests you, it’s a great game to start with.

Play Super Turbo.

there’s a lot of new players still coming to SF4 so you will be able to find plenty of people on your level

.

In my case SF4 reintroduced me to FGs, also thanks to online play
it helped me a lot.

regarding growth, since each game has its own strategy, I will not go further

but concerning execution, I improved thanks to games like KOF, Last Blade 2 and Vampire Savior and that carried over to SF4.
SF4 is too lenient with inputs and priorities, ( mostly df, dp and hcf moves) and gives you a false impression.
certainly a good place to start, but there are also other roads nearby.

Whatever you think is the most fun. SF4 and P4A are not bad choices.

Pretty much this. Either that or maybe HDR. Street Fighter will help teach you mechanics that you can apply to a myriad of other fighters in general such as footsies, frame data, getting your motions down, ect. However in the end it’s really just a matter of preference.

Thanks guys… Think I will be picking up SF4 because I can get it pretty cheap. In a few weeks maybe I’ll pick up P4A as well.

No problem. I would just highly suggest not starting out with Mahvel.

The salt shall drive you away from fighters forever. :coffee:

I’m not really new to the fighting game scene but I’m new to the competitive scene, one of the games I find the best for training has to street fighter 3rd strike. That game will not let you slop you way through it and will make you earn every bit of your moves and combos.

Yeah SF4 can train you in bad habits but they aren’t awful habits to have. Either you mash DP and think you’re a god (until moving to a new game and learning that shit doesn’t fly), or you mash DP and never learn, and just play the game for fun/casual.

If you’re looking for something to play casually it really doesn’t matter what you pick they all suck for casual play, haha. (you can mash A in P4A tho)

Another one you can do is guilty gear, it’s let’s you mash on a controller to help play with combos and then actually focus on how did that after you played around.

I think I’m officially retiring from MVC3 as of right now.

Fuck Hidden Missiles
Fuck Dive kick
Fuck Morrigan
Fuck online Captain America

Seriously, fuck this game.

I still wanna keep playing it but its annoying that’s all juggling and no good ground game.

Play whatever game you feel looks fun and interesting.

I don’t know why I ever stopped playing Blazblue for this piece of shit. I’m going to trade it in and just put the money towards GGXX.

Money well spent.

One other game that you might want to try is the new mortal kombat. Easy game play and will let you get timing and hit confirm down and still keep it pretty fast pace.

Noooooo
We need more players in the DOA community…

I still need to get that and tekken tag 2.
