Hey, I didnt looked at this thread for 1-2 days now, I was quite busy and had no time to check the internet.
Thx for all the replies, I didnt wanted to offset anybody (@ EmX) or to start this much of a debate.
I just found it hard as a beginner to gather Informations about this game or strategies / tricks or “what to train”. For example Ive read about a basic thing like “autoguard / guard point” the first time today, where as its quite simple to find informations about hyper drive combos (which btw arent that important for a beginner lol). I played a lot more KOF in the past days, mainly the trial mode on which I could derive from my own bnb combos (I havent checked the Internet for more effective ones yet, that comes later) and to check more other characters. Actually Im sticking with Ralf and Maxima. To return to the “Execution difficulty” in general. I personally find the execution in KOF much more difficult ! compared SF4 (its perhaps mainly because Im much more used to SF4 , phoenioxnl ffor example wrote on page 1, that he found the execution in SF4 more difficult). And Im not talkingof things like 2x hcb or qcb out of light attacks, which is still impossible to do for me in real combat. I have quite a lot of problem with (for example Ralfs bnb) an “easy” thing connecting a cl.C after a j.C/D, especially when followed with a df.A xx qcf C xx etc. (j.C/D , cl.C , df.A xx qcf. C xx db.C xx charge b~f C xx special for example). I just have to train that ofc, just an info. (Its the same thing with maximas analogue combo: j.C , cl.C , df.C , qcb. A etc.). Im either not connecting the cl.C or cant cancel the df.A/C thing, ofc I could skip the df. and just cancel from cl.C, just have to train it more, just an example.
Actually I enjoy playing KOF. I like the speed of the game , the characters (design in drawing and moveset) and yes, the game has a special “flair” to it (I hope its the right english word and not just an anglicism).
From my side the thread could be closed. But I have no problems with more discussions, perhaps there are other beginners who have some questions or old veterans who still want to discuss here.
I didn’t mean to single you out Pr0ph3t85, but threads like these with much less noble intentions have been made for literally years. I just felt like sounding off.
I’m a poor execution player. I used to play Ralf in earlier KOFs because he was simple to play. But they changed him in 12 and 13, so he has more stuff to do but they are a lot harder.
I’ve since switch to Shen, who doesnt rely as much on difficult stuff for his basic gameplay. So yeah, Ralf is cool, but if you decide that his execution requirements are too annoying, try Shen.
but just in case any newbies believed you Mai’s boobs have been bouncing in that same get up since 1992 I believe (Fatal fury 2) and DoA didn’t come out till 96’.
To awnser the original question to this tho I’ve always preferred SNK ove capcom fighters for a few reasons, I think the characters are better designed look wise and the special moves are cooler to look at and slightly better story lines (ya i like fighting game stories lol) and they seemed to always be more challenging to play.
Not to mention guard gauges and breaks I mean it makes sense you can only sit there and take so much right. For this one tho I’m just glad to have a new fighter that plays more like an old one. not that i don’t like SSF4:AE and UMVC3 but they just seem to be lacking compared to the older series installments (when i first got SF4 I swear it felt really slow playing to me).
Also fun fact for new people Dan from SF was a joke character made to make fun Ryo (now those short gadoken’s and stuff make sense huh)
I’ve never played a previous KOF (only hearing that KOF XII was really bad…) or even saw any kind of marketing whatsoever for this game. My friend had picked up KOF XIII one day and I was sold by the 2d sprites, smooth controls, and super-solid gameplay right then and there.
I have been playing the game since 1994! and just last weekend I finally bought an xbox and this game, I can tell you one thing after playing all versions of KOF, this KOF has easier inputs for some reason, or it might be just me since I play KOF so much. The fascinating part about KOF to me is the high mobility & pressure game in matches & the characters are quite interesting.
KOF with hardest input timings is KOF 98 Arcande and Neogeo Version. Very strict timings, KOF 2002 has harder HD cancel combos.
I got interested in KOF 13 for only two reasons. Watching NCR 10, and the art style. I am the biggest fucking sucker for gorgeous 2D sprites and animation (coughWayForwardcough). But I’m having similar issues as far as getting these combos down. The joystick movements were the first hurdle, being as awkward as they are. Four different types of jumps takes a great deal of practice before you can consistently do the one you want then follow up with an attack. It’s just a very dense, pretty, technical game. It’s kind of like Ninja Gaiden Black in a way. Once you get really good at it, everything else seems so easy by comparison.
imo once you understand the fundamental & know how this game flow, the reward really bring a great satisfaction feel for me. Also it helps me to learn other fighting game system more easily. Not brain dead easy but it really helps me to shorten my time to understand the other game system.
I’m finding the same hurdles in my development of this game… probably because it’s the first KoF I’ve ever played and I come from a pure SF/MK background. Having different jumps as well as the other small nuances I’m finding that my progress in this game slow.
However, it’s probably my favourite fighter since I discovered 3s.
Well, Im certainly having a tough time finding someone to play against, online sucks, what other games with good online can you guys recommend, i hear soul calibur 5 has the best online.
I like the game bought it because it reminded me of the old days of playing sf2 and fatal furys in the arcades,i was acyually still playing 12 right before this came out, still not into the whole HD combo part of the game?neomax or whatevers aspects, IM old…getting sick that this whole gen has been Team games and gimicks … DID i say i was old, online is a fucking travesty
Beautiful 2D sprites that differentiate themselves from the typical animu look. Smooth animations on the moves. Cool characters. Wins feel deserved to name a few things I like about this game. The only thing this game needs is good online and I would probably never touch another fighting game again.
I played every single version from 94 to 2002 and I’m sure that the KOF’s hardest execution BY FAR is 1996. Insanely tight. KOF 98 comes right after it and 2002 isn’t so difficult at all, unless you want to put full meter cancel deadly combos.
About thread’s question, the most fascinating part in this KOF is it recreates that old school atmosphere I miss so much.
