With Guy in your avatar you really do seem like a Ninja Philosopher.
to me
kof have always brought more options, innovation to the table than to say SF. Since it came out I fell in love with the characters, music, story, fan service etc. but what kept me ultimately was the gameplay. Kof is always evolving with every iteration by changing the system, introducing new characters, changing characters’ moveset. You can see this progression if you play KOF 94 all the way to KOF XIII, you’ll see the difference. Capcom purest don’t seem to like this for some reason, I guess they rather play the same ryu and spam hadoukens for centuries to come.
I think KOFXIII is more like mirror’s edge but made into a fighting game, with elements from the animes instead of the comics. I’ve done scientifical studies on it. Also Mai is a ripoff from DoA obviously.
Gotta watch it with leaving those sarcasm tags out, some folks aren’t as keen on the uptake.
I really don’t care in a thread like this. The whole “validate your game for me” act went on a lot even before SF4. >:(
im garbage with double qcf motions which is why i stick to scrub friendly games like mvc2
Yeah, we can see your sig. Double motions are fun man. Helps with the manual RPMs too.
Edit due to bad misinformation.
I like guard meter.
Unless KOF13 radically changed KOF for the worse: there are varied jump/hop arcs, backdashes, rising speeds and rolls in KOF. CD counters are also character dependent and the guard cancel rolls use your character’s roll animation. It has its fair share of universal sub-systems but each character is unique when it comes to how they use them. Thanks for spreading misinformation.
It’s actually very important to know how your jump arc works!
Actually, some characters like Athena have floatier jumps/hops. Also, there are different wakeup speeds. I think there’s other differences, too.
Arc jumps are really not the same character from character, try to hop with Benimaru or Yuri and then to hyper jump with Chin, you’ll see the differences.
Same thing goes for dashes, the minimal run aren’t the same length, and speed, some characters have crouching hitbox when running such as Duolon or Leona, etc.
And at least the characters aren’t waking up at the same speed :>
But you’ll see those differencies only when you’ll test safe jumps options and some other advanced stuff, or after a lot of plays.
Damn I screwed up royally on the jump arcs/wake up speeds. I gladly stand corrected. Clearly I have more time in training mode on that one.
The cd attacks are indeed character dependent. But I never said they’re all exactly the same. I just said everyone can burn a meter to get someone off of you with the CD attack or to roll back and away. They all have the option is what I said.
my fascination comes that its not sf4
Fast gameplay, mindgames, I love sprites, Cool characters, less bullshit than other games, etc. etc.
The bad thing?: no Shingo and Vanessa :bluu:
Awesome avatar
Thanks. But I wonder. Is it the mask or the pic in the back?
And yeah. I wouldn’t mind Vannessa.
Is Shingo still being trained by Saisyu?
Things I want to add on topic. Little things. But I think they only add to the game to set it apart from other fighters.
I have to say that the KOF series is really what made me love grapplers.
Clark Still is the reason I got into grapplers.
Terry’s Engrish is legendary.
Certain touches that happen with characters become something you can appreciate or wonder WTF were they thinking as the series progresses:
Athena having a different outfit for each game.
Kyo went from having a projectile to being a rekka character. I thought it was pretty cool to take the ‘franchise character’ and change him up.
That moment you realize the Women’s team is team girlfriend.
Ralf and Clark were borderline clones but have specific differences now.
Its taken from Fatal Fury IIRC but The stages changing between day and night/spectators and so on is really cool.
Kensou took a level in badass going back to his Psycho Soldier look.
KOF has also had winquotes ranging from hilarious (Ryo saying Dweebenheimer in 95) to pretty cool (Clark: Losers have no rights. That’s what war’s all about)
Other posters reccomended playing older games in the series. I agree and sincerly reccomend the two dream matches, 98, and 2k2, as well as 2000.
I kind of miss the characters watching you fight and react in the background. I thought that was cool. Same with prefight intros (cmon. Andy and Mai in wedding attire, Kyo and K9999’s Akira shoutout, Ralf boozing up before fighting, Athena going through every outfit she wore previously)
TL;DR there’s a LOT to love about this series. Just give it an honest chance.
Densuo, there is plenty to love about SNK games, including KOF, but none of what you said in your previous post about KOF’s gameplay was true. Also we’re posting here because we love the games. I just don’t see why anyone has to justify anything to fans of other series (we most certainly are talking fandom here-- not playing a competitive game when we talk like this).
Someone coming in here trying to ask us “what do you like about this game, really?” is a bit presumptuous. It’s a common attitude on SRK with anything that isn’t SF-related. He could just buy it, try it out and read about it like everyone else. It also makes everyone else look bad if someone starts discussing the games in a way that’s patently false.
People who bothered to learn KOF in the US never needed a pep talk or a reassurance that the game was legitimate. Instead, they decided to play what they liked and pursue learning the game. There are a number of other people (if the ignore function worked I’d have no reservations about posting a list…ugh) to the periphery who get caught up in discussions like this. Subsequently, the SRK community conflates the game with SNK fandom than players learning the dern game. Not that they are mutually exclusive in any necessary way, but people generally fell to one side or another of that ever since I had even heard of KOF in 01/02 while I was in high school. It was mostly to the fandom side of things, too I might add.
I harbor a lot of resentment over that dynamic. The people perpetuating it ought to know better by now. Most of the time I do not visit SRK or interact with its community (online and even irl in some cases) as a direct result of this. It creates a really frustrating environment for people who want to contribute good information about actually learning to play. More than a few people have tried and given up. Behind the scenes I was told more than once that it’s a complete waste of time and I still agree for the most part.
No one is happy with discussions like this, either. KOF players, like anyone else, can’t compel anyone to like anything they don’t already. All it leads to is a lot of needless tension and bad posts from people who might be better off on neo-geo.com or SNKcapcom or whatever.
I prefer giving correct info. I’ll edit that post.
Funny you mention that. People saying “Sell this game to me” IS pretty common here =\
Honestly anyone who likes fighting games should be interested in this game right from watching a streamed tournament with high level players.
Unfortunetly the typical SRK goer really is that mindless that he requests other people to make up his mind for him when it comes to picking games, instead of getting the game or testing it out with a friend or something.
They don’t watch the streams the way you think, I guess. It’s often about personalities clashing and other nonsense. There’s a street fighter-themed reality show in the works ffs. That warrants another thread, anyway.
The thing to understand about FG streams is that most of the commentators are straight-up douchebags. They attract other douchebags. Often this characteristic gets aggravated when they start talking about a game they do not know anything about.
For what it’s worth: there are hours and hours of match videos for every KOF game on youtube. emil and soh85 alone have so much posted that it’s more than anyone could reasonably watch – badass! People aren’t watching it much. XIII didn’t have it right at release and now it will soon enough, I hope. But it’s not going to solve the problem I’m getting at.
