The “remotely sensible” part may have saved you, but if you go back to my first post in this thread you’ll see that I know this is not ignored, but rather completely blown out of proportion. A woman making calm, harmless youtube videos about the ultimately trivial hobby of video games gets an enormously over the top, insane response. Ignored? It caused nine pages of complaints that women are trying to take over video games. That’s not normal. Ok, maybe like 6 pages and 3 troll/counterargument pages.

Still, did I ever say you said all feminists are bad? I said that you’re taking the extreme element, which is probably much less numerous than you think, and extrapolating to paint a distorted picture of feminism. It’s one of the oldest tactics in the book, and it’s especially weird considering that you complain about the 13 year old boys making rape and death threats (no mention of the 20 year old boys? the 50 year old boys?) being used as a representation of all men. Not that anyone is even really doing that, since I think the general consensus among feminists is that it’s a deeply entrenched societal problem that also causes women to oppress women, but I guess being individually persecuted for being a man satisfies a martyr complex, so whatever.
These threads always end up looking like an argument between an atheist and an intelligent and honest Catholic, with all the backtracking involved. They start out with a general “All feminists are bad” vibe, then they go to “Oh, well not all, obviously, but certainly most of them. Look at these 500 women out of 150,000,000 who falsely accused a man of rape”, to “Well, it’s not most of them, just the loudest ones who control everything”. As long as “feminism=bad”, which is the only ground that must not be given up, they all go the same way.

The idea that SlutWalk has his hidden agenda is no less ludicrous a claim than when uppity homophobes blast gay pride events for pushing “the gay agenda.” As though the agenda is anything other than “man, how about you don’t discriminate against us, given we’ve done fuck all to deserve it and our sexual preference has no negative impact on you.” SlutWalk is no different: “dressing this way isn’t provocation, isn’t an invitation to be raped.”

Since there are people who don’t believe this, the whole SlutWalk movement sprung up to combat this. Dude you are way off the mark on this topic. Think about it this way. If you are a rich white boy do you think it would be a good idea to be dropped off in say the roughest Detriot ghetto with gold chains, new jordans… just the works? No? This is the same exact concept when women are told to be conscience of their surroundings and their place within it. It’s really basic common sense which a lot of people lack today. Yes raping is wrong and should be discouraged but for gods sake, let’s be at least a little practical.

Have you forgotten that the term “slut” itself is a derogatory term towards women? Having a “slutwalk” is no different than calling something the “Faggot-walk” or to go even moreso to an extreme, the “n-word walk”. Each of those terms are derogatory towards the groups that would be potentially doing them. And this isn’t even getting into the fact that with bringing up the Gay Pride Parades you’re missing that the notion of “SEE HOW DIFFERENT WE ARE?! PAY ATTENTION TO US!” that it GIVES OFF regardless of whether it means to or not is counterproductive to getting sympathy, acceptance, and understanding, as it would be far more constructive to focus on the SIMILARITIES.
If the “Slutwalk” is really, TRULY against rape and is something that shows a group of women standing up to the thought of the awful and terrible thing known as rape and the loss of dignity, self-respect, innocence, and just about everything else that comes with it, then how in the hell is it they decided to name the event something that IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM MAKES PEOPLE THINK OF A RAPE PROTEST? If the issue was “rape is bad, and no matter how we look, nobody deserves to be raped” (all very true points as nobody ever deserves to have that happen to them), then WHY not go for a name that people can get behind, that makes it 100% clear on what the goal is, and that doesn’t send conflicting or contradicting messages from the very moment people hear about it.
Now, I’m not saying anti-rape ISN’T one of the issues with the “Slutwalk”, but if it was truly, at its core the MAIN ISSUE, then it would be called something different entirely. You know, something that makes it clear what it’s about…like calling it the “March Against Rape”, or even if they have to throw a reference that in that specific instance it’s women and only women speaking, then you can still call it “Women Against Rape” or “Women Walking for Anti-Rape Awareness”. The very name of something like the “Slutwalk” that is supposed to, from what those for it claim, have a very clear “anti-rape message” is going to be the first thing people see, the first thing people hear, and the very first impression that people are given, and the harsh truth is that the first impression somebody gets upon hearing the name/title “Slutwalk” is vastly different from what people involve in it want people to imagine with regards to what it’s about.

Judging from the amount of money she received in regards to that kickstarter, I would say she has quite a few people that take her seriously even if YOU don’t. As I said elsewhere I don’t see what’s wrong with teaching people not to steal cars, or other crimes. Very often, crime happens because of mental illness and/or desperation and/or otherwise not-horrible-human-beings faltering. Teaching the causes of these things, coping methods, available medicine (if applicable), etc. already happens, and for a reason. People aren’t just inherently born good or bad.
If anyone, feminist or otherwise, paints all women as potential rape victims and/or all men as potential rapists, that person is a fool.
There’s nothing wrong with caution. There’s everything wrong with urging caution while simultaneously NOT condemning the thing that requires caution to be taken in the first place.
