Where did all the feminist/hipsters come from?

Some women… just want to watch the world of men burn.

C’mon guys…

I love women as much as i love my mom.
I do.

Im just saying the feminism against gaming nerds is over the top.
And they came outta nowhere and they target the gaming industry that was built by men.

Might wanna rephrase that one buddy.

How do I flag posts as “categorically inbred” or “socially stunted”

To touch on a common retort here, when someone complains about women being overly sexualised in games and in response they receive something along the lines of “well i can hardly relate to this burly, steroid-addicted badass motherfucker” there’s a simple reason why that’s not a reasonable and relevant retort. Both the idea of heavily sexualised women and overly muscled men are male focused fantasies; sex and power respectively. THIS is a basic example of a sexualised male:

Uncomfortable to look at? Con-fucking-gratulations, now you know how it feels.

In the case of burly men in games, you might think “well I thought women love big strong men”, that’s an assumption and is pretty broad at best. These men aren’t sexualised for women’s enjoyment, they are strong and powerful for a lot of men to relate to as a power fantasy. Try to honestly think of a male Street Fighter character that is made to look sexual for most of their appearances. There’s only a couple I can think of off the top of my head; Vega and Urien. Urien simply cos he’s only got a towel covering his junk, but even then his muscular body isn’t very sexual, he’s supposed to look like some kind of Greek god, bursting with strength and energy. Vega on the other hand, is closer to it. A thin and svelte man who fights shirtless, and is obsessed with beauty, yeah it’s close, but in reality he’s a Spanish ninja assassin who wears a mask, hiding his beauty (for protection of course, but its still hidden the majority of the time). This is a power fantasy.

Now think of the SF female characters. While there is some legitimately great characterisation in these characters, latent sexism allows sexualisation and fetishism to creep into their designs. Chun-Li, strongest woman in the world, got those #THICKASIAN thighs, C.Viper just has to have her cleavage on display, there are more examples of not so much malicious ‘HA HA WOMEN ARE MADE OF BOOBS’ attitudes, more of a clear lack of respect to females as non-sexualised people, rather than objects.

Just to clear up that last point, I am NOT demonising a) women in games with highly sexual features and b) all developers who have ever made a female character in their life or c) every iteration of street fighter.

Some characters in games have really cool shit with sexuality, i.e. Morrigan, Bayonetta, Vice & Mature etc, and those are real characters in my opinion, they just can’t represent all women. It becomes a problem when the only female representative in a game is fetishised, or characters are demeaned because they’re female (see Yuri and King in KOF, being defeated with a special move will result in their shirts ripping open. Literal WTF.)

TL;DR : Women are people and their complexities as human beings should be represented as such in video games. The industry is young and retarded so males aren’t much better off, but if you think we get anywhere without recognising the problems we need to fix together, then I’m sorry for your brain.

why? its the truth.
our mothers are women too.

so lets not get outta hand.

feminist is different.

Fuck all, this is the most bitchmade thread I’ve ever seen.

It’s got everything…

Tinfoil hat wearing male conspiracy nutjobs that are absolutely sure every single woman is a straw feminist hell-bent on destroying everything they’ve ever loved.

Straw feminists touting the standard made-up stories about sexual assault, molestation, etc. so they can integrate with the Reddit/Tumblr social justice echo chamber of their choice, and have something to fall back on when they start losing an argument anywhere else.

Completely beta white knights spouting pseudo-intellectual rhetoric not meant to educate or enlighten, but to passively attack other males whom they despise for having the fortitude to not buy into straw feminist bullshit.

And a small handful of folks who seem to be genuinely capable of rational unbiased thought getting drowned in a sea of Internet circlejerk stupid.

NONE of you have a good look right now. What is this shit?

Entertainment exists to allow people to endulge in fantasies.

There is nothing wrong with targeting particular demographics whilst doing this, hence the existance of both what you are bitching about and the picture of that dude you posted.

That man is just represented as a slab of meat to fulfill a fantasy, and he’s actually real instead of a few pixels or polygons moving around the screen, still as long as that is what he choose to do and he was not harmed in the production of that picture, it is still not wrong, the people who like him can have him, there is no need to give a shit.

This is the new SRGAY, enjoy your stay faggot.

I don’t think the people disagreeing with SheldonCooper’s post really read/understood it. He (she?) isn’t saying that you can’t have fantasy, or sexualized women, or whatever.

Posting in a thread with Sheldon Cooper.

specs postin his rill feelins under the sheldoncooper moniker IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

Chun-li the strongest woman in the world who uses her legs and thigh muscles for most of her signature attacks has muscular thighs, oh the humanity.

If you can have the means to make an interactive and profitable fantasy world, why not make one?
If you want to see realistic men and women doing realistic things, go outside.

they really should look at the oversexualization of animals in game

i played brutal paws of fury one time and fucked my tv i was so hard

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’ve never noticed feminists catching feelings over Chun Li. Maybe over the fact that she’s the only girl in the original game she appeared in, but not over the depiction itself.

Boobs make bitches insecure.

I wouldn’t say people are doing this just for money, but attention seems to be a huge factor, given the prominence of Twitter, etc. Doesn’t help that this Anita person used it as an opportunity to speak directly into a camera about it.

Dat Foxy Roxy.

Sharks have not one but TWO penises.

Does that make them oversexualized?

Just to clarify something, I like sexy chicks in artwork. For instance, this whole debate over VanillaWare’s supposed “sexism” strikes me as silly when the art is supposed to convey something very over-the-top to the point of parody (condemn VanillaWare for making mediocre games like Odin Sphere instead). And the people spouting off about Skullgirls’ supposed “sexism” are fucking retarded.

I said what I said about SheldonCooper’s post because it echoes my own sentiments: there’s a difference between stylizing and pandering. He/she/it used Chun-li as an example, though I personally disagree here: I don’t think Chun-li is really considered a sex object. She’s attractive, yes, and her outfit is ridiculous, but ridiculous inline with what constitutes normal in her universe. Sakura and Karin wear biker shorts, Makoto’s in a baggy gi, Juri and Viper have reasons to dress the way they do, etc. In SF, the big sore thumb is Cammy, who really has no business ass-cheeking it up to push units. King of Fighters has a bunch of blatant examples here too; Mai is tits to pander to people who like Maitits, end of story.

Hell, I like Maitits. Not enough to buy a KoF game for Maitits alone, but I look, and I don’t apologize for it. But I’m not going to defend it under some notion that it couldn’t be less objectified or more tasteful.
