I’m just waiting for the inevitable explosion in sales once that happens.
I myself already have a huge thread on SPUF about the Skullgirls promo with 300+ posts in it. Granted, things get quite heated at times due to “ARTSTYLE!” cries… even though TF2’s artstyle died in a fire years ago.
Really? Why?

Because the fighting game community already has a lot of crossover with LoL, I would’ve thought the relationship with Dota2 would have been similar.

LoL is a casual game, and this is coming from a LoL player. They like references to other media. I mean, every champion’s dance is a popular dance, there’s lots of pop culture jokes/lines, and of course, references everywhere, like Lux’s ultimate being Touhou inspired. Looking at the main Dota2 board, they’re a lot more cut throat and serious. If we were to get a Minette courier, they’d probably throw a fit saying how it doesn’t fit the style of the game, which is a pseudo-real fantasy style. I play both Dota2 and LoL, and the fan bases are as different as can be. The burden of knowledge is greater in Dota2 with more mechanics to learn, and it’s all around more difficult to play. LoL doesn’t have orb walking, creep denying, couriers, secret shops, also, 3-4 second long stuns.

Honestly, if you want to see for yourself, go post that they might get promos on Playdota’s general board, which is the official dota2 forum according to Valve.
I actually have very little desire to play any DotA games, but thanks for clearing it up.
Also, I highly doubt Valve will announce this drive on their blog. They’d wait for the game to be on Steam before they said anything about it. Valve rarely updates the blog as is, and I highly doubt they would for this. TF2 is their cash cow, DOTA2 is their baby right now. It’s up to us to get the word out. I myself have a thread in the main TF2 board about this, and have messaged a few of the popular folks from the FGC who are on Youtube, but have heard nothing back.

Honestly, you want more donations? Get Max to make a shoutout vid.
Announcers and couriers you could do pretty much anything you want with, it’s just the hero gear that they get very uppity with. No one wants Dota 2 to be like HoN or LoL were items make a hero unrecognizable, or just makes them into a joke. I say this as one of the mightiest and wealthiest hat barons in all the lands, mind you, so take that as you will.
Yeah couriers are pretty whatever. There’s a random wizard standing on a donkey as courier, a weasel, a dragon, a whatever-a-grievel-thing-even-is, etc. I’m sure Alex can come up with something that’d fit the SG universe and also work as courier (ViceVersa walking with his hands or propelling them as flychick).

And announcers DEFINITELY work. Would love the SG general announcer to run a Dota2 VA with SG+Zone references in it. SG’s quality voiceacting in general allows for plenty of possibilities (though seeing that half the VAs are present in LoL already, I’m not sure whether that’d pose a problem).
So, why would you promote a promo… when you hadn’t even gotten it approved by Valve?
That’s the million dollar question on everyone’s mind. Very strange circumstances indeed.

What I’m guessing is that a deal was already worked out with Valve, but they weren’t allowed to talk about it until it was approved officially.

Basically, the TF2 team needs to approve what the specific hat they’re going to get is. Considering that the current Leviathan design (or Leviathan himself) might not get approved for the game, the TF2 might have been antsy about letting that seem like something that was already confirmed. I highly doubt the Skullgirls team would have gone forward with a promotion they didn’t know they weren’t going to get, they probably just didn’t realize that the hat needed to be approved with a final design before they could reveal it.

Well, this is a bad look.
It’s also fairly unlikely Valve wouldn’t want the new hat. Pretty much every hat promotion is an increase in sales and profit for them.

Just make another hat design? Well for me at least I was more curious about the beta testing of the game than the hat…

Anyone who helped just for the hat, just get a refund i guess?

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>The Steam forums thread about the promotion has gone to hell. Nothing now but people either trash talking the game, trash talking the promo or arguing about sexism. Thank god Shoryuken doesn’t boil down to such childish behaviour.

My guess is to get that donation money, and shape in form.

I felt like the whole hat promotion thing felt weird.
Despite being the thread creator, I won’t touch that thread until more news is released. And you think Spuf is bad? Facepunch is hammering Skullgirls just as bad if not worse.
