I’m hella late lol but here’s some info on how to submit artwork to Udon’s SF Tribute book for those that are interested. :lovin:

About the Shin Megami Tensei manga Sano, is it like any of the games? I saw some art and was kind of turned off. I’m not terribly into manga anymore but still dig some of the MegaTen games. Have Nocturne and Persona 2/3.

I only played Nocturne. The Pixie that you start off with is in it but transforms herself into a human so she can walk around freely in the human world. Unlike Nocturne, it isn’t all of Japan that gets sucked into the nether world, just a school and this is the aftermath, when he and a female companion come back from Hell.

The manga is a sequel to ā€œIfā€¦ā€ and a prequel to Persona I thiiiiiiink… There’s really detailed notes inside the book that explains the timeline. I’ll make a mental note to look at it later.

It’s not much like the game in that the hero doesn’t collect a lot of demons to fight with him, but this is probably because it is a prequel/sequel kind of thing so it’s something like before/after all of that happens. The hero (I think he’s called Nobu???) has Pixie as a human helping him out and other people helping him out.

It’s rather enjoyable, if you know anything about the series it’s easy to follow along and there’s detailed notes if you can’t. Nah, the artwork doesn’t match up the look of the games (Kazuma Kaneko’s a tough act to follow) but I didn’t find it to be bad or anything, easy enough to follow along. Oh and there’s cursing and lesbian sex so there’s that lol! It’s a lot like the naughty bits of Berserk, well to compare to something else I read… Nocturne the game itself is pretty adult… I remember a mini demon outside one of the shopping areas who could… um… lick his long you-know-what if he wanted to but it since it was inches away from his mouth (um… maybe it was a long curled tail…) Well, probably isn’t on the level of the manga in terms of naughty-ness.

Ok… when is the SF3 comic going to be out?
I haven’t been at a comic store since forever, since SF2 has been on hiatus because of SSF2THD

Nothing’s changed, SF2/SF3 comics are still slated for Summer 2008 just as they’ve always been…

Okay checked the manga again. The main character of Shin Megami Tensei Kahn is named Nobu. The female protagonist of the game is named Yumi, the other human. The story happens after SMT If. So the timeline is SMT part I, than If, than this story (if you count it of course, video game based manga is rarely canon if ever) than the rest of the series.

In the game, if you chose Yumi as your partner than both your character Nobu - it’s his manga name, in the game you can name him whatever you want - and Yumi would return to the human world along with the school that was pulled into Hell / The Underworld. In the manga however, they are sole survivors and the school is still gone. Manga reinforces the bad ending lol what will they think of next?

Thanks for the info Sano, I’ll keep an eye out for it next time I’m in store. Take a look see and make my decision from there.

I picked up Ryu Final v1 today, liked the art a lot more then the other sf manga and in general I’m more interested in SFIII era stuff anyway. Hugo = cloverfield!?

I skimmed a bit and saw a release date for Ryu Final v2, is it actually out yet?

Nah Ryu Final vol. II isn’t out yet, I’m HOPING it will drop soon… :wonder:

Thanks, Sano. Question is: will I be lost if I pick up III and not II?

Probably not? I mean storyline-wise III isn’t strongly connected to II. Only four returning characters afterall.

At the NY Anime Fest, Zub of Studio Udon did say that III would be constructed so it wouldn’t spoil the events of the SF2 tourney since that comic will be coming out at the same time as III. I’m guessing it works the other way around, meaning you can read III alone if you wanted to.

Udon did say that Capcom of Japan gave them the go ahead to feature SF2 and SF Alpha characters in their III comic via cameos. They won’t be exactly the same, Udon will redesign them as to what they would look like around the time of III.

I mean, you really never know how these things will go down but I kind of doubt they are going to reference a lot of Udon-only specific things like brainwashed Cammy killing Chun-Li’s dad and so forth. Since well, Cammy at best would get a cameo… Maybe Final Fight Streetwise Cammy? Here’s hoping, maybe… Hmmm…

Generally speaking, every comic that has the #1 on it attracts new people, so unless you are Marvel, DC, Dark Horse or something like that and have a… REALLY complex continuity going most publishers try to make #1 of anything very new reader friendly. And even in the case of the big comic book companies they still try to make anything that has a #1 on it new reader friendly, kind of, sometimes…

Their SF2 comic does reference their SF comic (which was basically SF1 - SFA3) but of course the Alpha and SF2 series’ share a lot of the same characters.

I think you’ll be alright as long as you jump in knowing -

Ryu - Looking for fights
Ken - Married, has a son
Chun-Li - Quit Interpol, looking for her that kid Urien kidnapped (which the comic should go into anyway)
Akuma(AKA Gouki) - Um yeah see what I wrote for Ryu.

  • And everyone else will be new.

A much younger Yun and Yang do appear in Udon’s previous SF2 comic, but they don’t do anything major other than just have cameos, prolly nothing important in the long run. They did mourn Gen’s death who was raising them and they worked in Gen’s restaurant in Udon’s comic. I suppose that may come up during Udon’s III comic, may not. Both of them know and are familiar with Chun-Li. They really weren’t in the SF2 comic a heck of a lot for it to matter a whole lot I think… If they reference any of the above it will probably come with flashbacks and so on to keep you up to speed.

Again, you never know, all of the above is kind of a guestimate… Udon’s not saying much about their SF3 comic right now of course…

OK so I ordered Udons Art of Capcom book

and I saw this Darstalkers art book

I went aheaed and bought both, but the Darkstalkers book is on preorder status. Does anybody know when this book comes out?

Last release date I know of for the DS Graphic file was 3/15/08. Might be later than that date, see what happens after the 15th.

can someone please tell me what number the street fighter II series goes up to?

Thanks Sano!

So far 6.

cheers mate! you guys seem to be on top of you game in terms of release dates. I guess we should be expecting Chunli Legends around the time of SF2Turbo and SF3?
