What's your personal tier list so far?

I’ve noticed many people listed King as top tier. Anyone care to explain why she would be considered so good? I’m still learning the game, so I’m not seeing it at the moment. Enlighten me, please!

eat shit

King has great normals, great at spacing, and tagging you with a hit either through poking or fishing for hits, will net you a decent damaging combo for no meter. With meter, she can run you all the way across the screen with combos kind of like Kula.

Wow, so you didn’t know about one of the most defining features of this version of the character but still decided you were qualified and said that she was “definitely Bottom”. I guess you must have also missed (or decided to ignore?) the part of my post where I mentioned she has…

Well, now that that’s all settled, lets move on to something more interesting and productive! Theory crafting!

How do you think NESTS Kyo will shake up the evenly balanced house of cards that we call our KOFXIII cast? Do you believe he’ll stand up as a unique character, dominate over all of them, or fall short of everyone else?

I for one would say this guy has a crap ton of moves. He’s got a built in HD mode gimmick off of Rekkas and he’s a walking talking tank. He’s no slouch, and the unique uses of his rekka series make him the most unique rekka character in the game. You think “rekka” when you think this type of Kyo Kusanagi. What do you guys think?

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the “walking tank” bit and how rekka kyo can do with his rekka followups outside of just “oh, damage”? All I really know is that they have some(?) autoguard and he has at least one overhead option iirc. my knowledge of rekka kyo is abysmal

The problem is that this is common in like any decent to pro Vice videos that you can find on youtube…so where have you been getting your information from? Just reading a movelist and theorizing the tierlists?

He’ll crap out damage like a beast. He seems to have the ability to do high amounts of damage all over the place. Tagging you with one of his moves lets him get a full chain off and he seems to be able to go into his rekka series. Well, for one, his rekkas can set you up for hard knockdowns, pressure, or you can drive cancel into another rekka series to push people to the corner for real heavy damage.

I really see high hops for him.

I’ve spent a little time in the lab, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Yuri is goddamn ridiculous. It’s like someone at SNK said to themselves “hey, let’s make a character with every single tool anyone could ever want!” She has a fireball, an air fireball (that can stop her momentum or not), a projectile deflector that can launch, a DP-lite, a command grab she can super cancel off of and combo into, a dive kick, and a demon flip (which can lead into said dive kick, air fireball, or just a throw). Dive kick, cl. C xx hcb+B is 200 damage, and I can add 150 or 200 to that by cancelling to a ranbu at the end.

Seriously. Goddamn. Ridiculous.

I’m leaning towards Athena and Kensou being top tier right now. Athena has no recovery on anything. Almost impossible to punish her. Kensou’s dp is ridiculously good and his zoning is strong.

Andy is looking really strong also, for the same reasons as Yuri - just a really complete character with no real weaknesses.

If anyone didnt watch the cafe id tourney stream last night you missed out, great matches all night and got to see some unusual characters get played at a very high level.

I keep seeing this vice sucks crap in this thread, I’m not at a competitive level yet with this game so I will not argue with you about it from my perspective, but the vice player from last nights tourney was a straight monster, even bodied poongko with vice alone one match. And yeah the counter arguement to this would be that the vice player was just miles ahead of his competition, but he was not miles ahead of poongko, no one at that tourney was.

Also ralf has some potential, there was a ralf player doing serious work all night with ralf on point.

Of course there were plenty of the usual suspects in terms of picks, but right now it seems like the game is in a very health spot balance wise.

Im assuming K’ is somewhere high up there? He seems to be able to really control the screen and do some pretty good damage without using a lot of meter. Plus I rarely see a team that doesn’t have him on there somewhere lol.

It’s hard to say. He definitely feels like he’s been nerfed overall from arcade, but he’s still pretty solid and has a number of useful tools. Most of the rest of the cast got quite a share of buffs as well, making him seem even less impressive in comparison. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up somewhere near the lower end of the tier list.

Wow really? Is still popular because of dat swag and people just haven’t put in the time to learn another character then?

this game is way too balanced…

A+ | Kyo, EX Kyo, Daimon, Iori, EX Iori, Shen Woo, Leona
A | Benimaru, Terry, Billy, Ryo, Robert, Takuma, Mature, Vice, Elizabeth, Duo Lon, Kim, Hwa Jai, Raiden, Mai, Yuri, K’, Kula, Kensou, Chin, Ralf, Clark
A- | Andy, Joe, Ash, Saiki, King, Maxima, Athena
Wildcard | Mr. Karate

special mention chars that may become very top…
terry… his pressure and guard break ability is very strong, but remains to see just how strong it is when everyone will block crack shoot standing
billy… a strong character anywhere on the screen. what he lacks in mixup and midscreen damage potential he easily makes up with range and pressure. will be strong early until players will consistently punish ex dp (block, then roll forward). but even without meter he is undoubtedly strong.
ryo… midrange zoning is very ridiculous and with the faster overhead he becomes threeatening up close as well
duo lon… a very strong character in the arcade version and great for strong players. he received many useful buffs so he can be pushed even further.
hwa jai…the 1 touch 80% character got scarier w/ a command grab super and much faster and safer pressure, buffed normals. st.d is ridiculous. definitely should watch out for him.
raiden… even with his nerfs he is still the most versatile character with an instant command grab and still very powerful. his ability to play mid range and turtle is something most grapplers lack.
mai… wow! crazy character. her air throw is from guilty gear. st.C ridiculous normal, very annoying, more damage potential, priority, and lots of tools to take away options such as her near-instant tracking neomax.
k’… from his nerfs it seems like he is quite average, but his anywhere juggle on air kick allows him to capitalize air to air with huge damage in the right situation. very scary once players become skilled at converting from this…a character you can’t leave the ground against when fighting.
kula… the best ‘footsie’ character along with ryo. st.b is now mega god like tier, and although her ex layspin is no longer downs-syndrome status, her ability to lock down and control space is among the best in the game.

Give me more time. I only tried out K’ and King so far.

@cygnus

enjoyed reading what you wrote there. Thoughts on leona? I see people placing her on tier lists all over the place.

Great analysis. I have to wonder why you put Ash that low, though. He seems really strong to me.

God that still throws me off.

The only reason I could see tier stratification is due to damage output by meter. Those that could do damage off of more confirms and use no or minimum bar will perform more consistently.

Everyone toolwise is very solid to the point I don’t want to make an actual tier list. Only one I could really see being consistent amongst team choice and simply has all the tools is EX Iori. At least all of his dumb stuff from previous games have been really really toned down (such as Rekka frametraps) so a player needs to be smart to play the character or he or she won’t get anywhere.with him.

Otherwise, many things are variable amongst the characters and even damage differentials might be negligible. For example, Mai’s typical meterless bnb might not do as much as a character such as Kyo, but her ability to shut out space with st.B, A Version Ryuuenbu, Neomax, and her other tools give her a strong trap and attrition game so she’ll be forcing errors and hitting the opponent more than Kyo forcing errors with j.D, projectiles, st.A, and cl.C. So even the differences in damages with basic bnbs are somewhat alleviated by the actual tools between the characters.

So I really, really don’t want to make a pre-mature list at all given all I know about each character in the game.
