What's with the SSB Hate?

To the Smash Community:

Trying to get people to play smash “competitively” is like trying to convince people to play street fighter without special moves: It goes against what the developers had designed the game to be, and in both cases, it’s not that much fun to most people.

Smash with items and 4 players is fun to most people. The game is meant to be played with items and with final smashes. If it wasn’t, then why would the developers put them in the game, no less on the default settings… when you are fighting against up to three other players in versus mode? When the Smash community comes in here and tries to tell us “Your way of playing Smash is different from ours. It should be played this way,” and then accuse SRK’ers of being elitist, that is hypocritical. If you want to play it that way in your Smash community, good for you. Play it in your circle. But once you are outside of your circle, don’t come in here and say “why won’t you like us just because we want to force our way of playing smash on you?” Also, don’t come in here and say “if you’d just give it a chance, you’ll change your mind.” We have had plenty of time to look at tourney footage of the stripped-down version of smash you guys play, and if that hasn’t convinced us to play it the way you guys do, then nothing will.

We don’t want to play Smash the way you do because it strips the game of everything that makes Smash fun to most people. When you come in here and try and force your ways on us, you are going to get disrespected, not only because you are going against what the developers had in mind for this game, but because you insist on forcing others to go against what the developers had in mind. We LIKE what the developers of Smash had in mind: A fun party game that up to four players can play casually. There’s all kinds of crazy weapons, final smashes, and stages that make the game play fun and unique. If you want to handicap your Smash experience, go right ahead. Deny yourself of everything that makes Smash Smash. Have fun in your handicapped-Smash community for as long as you like. But as soon as you’re done, remember that other people don’t think that what you do is fun … and the only thing less fun to most people than playing smash with your stripped down rules, is listening to you guys trying to FORCE people to play smash with your stripped down rules.

Signed,

SRK Community.

Can SMASHBOARDS please start banning people on their site for coming here? Shit son, YOU guys put a bad look on the community. Look at the OP, look at mrdoctorofficer. We never bring it up, you guys just continue to add fuel to the fire, separating them more than bringing them closer together. Then they walk away like “I am such a genius, those guys are dumb.” oh and,

lolsmash.

EDIT:

Lol and we are childish when your community uses that word to no end?

Lol @ serious answers.

The OP is either a troll or an airhead.

Either way, you lose by replying seriously.

When you see him post, just ignore him.
It’s easy to do, so just don’t feed the troll.

As for this topic, I don’t see it taking off far, especially if it’s quite obvious that OP is a troll himself.

So everyone that posts stupid shit on purpose is a troll now? You’re giving people too much credit. You see, most of the threads and posts on SRK are created out of sheer stupidity, not out of some underhanded genius that tries to get SRK riled up.

Seriously, the two smashers are obviously serious about what their saying.

I like Melee.

Items make the game fun.

Not this shit again.

So Smashers want Smash to be as close to SF as possible, and yet they don’t really play SF.
I hope the irony is not lost upon you.
Smash shouldn’t be played like SF. It should be played like Smash. No items, Final Destination does not make it any more “legitimate” or any closer to SF. It just makes the game bland as all hell, and it pisses off Smash fans and FG fans alike.
We don’t give a shit about FPS game rules or MLG, so to hell with that nonsense.
It’s also amazing the pure arrogance of a community that deems everything the developers did a ‘mistake’, as if y’all are the only ones who know how Smash SHOULD be made or played.
Here’s another news flash: very, very, VERY few of the 10 million people who bought Smash play No Items Final Destination competitive play.
If Game Arts had made Brawl as a purely competitive game according to your rule standards and had no “randomness”, no items, and kept all of the glitches from Melee that game would have NOT sold anywhere close to 10 million units and by and large people would not be playing it today.

Go back and re-read my post. Where did I say anywhere that Smash was more “popular” at these events? I said that it takes up more space, not that it’s more popular at events with SF/Tekken, and it’s true. That’s because when Smashers set-up at an event, they expect to be able to run singles AND doubles, and play 4-players casuals all day long. And because Smashers largely ONLY play Smash, that means that space is taken up the whole time.
Compare to most tournaments, where FG communites often rotate and share space together. Like for example you might have a space with 5 TVs setup for SF4, but later on when Blazblue is starting, 2 of those TVs will be turned over to Blazblue so the BB community can play casuals and run their tournaments.
A prime example in a tournament I actually helped run in person, at Final Round 13, in the “poverty” room, Smash took up more than half the room for the whole weekend, and yet they got less entrants than Melty Blood.

I guarantee you that 100% of us don’t go to Smashboards nor do we give a shit at all.
There’s nothing “in the closet” about Smash players here. I myself like Smash a lot, albeit mostly casually. I would rather play 4-player Items On Brawl than most of the fighting games that are out right now.
So either grow the fuck up and quit your persecution complex or just go away and don’t bother caring what people think about you.

Was this thread really made? I love Smash, but you guys know this fight is hopeless, right? You got some fairly well-thought-out answers at the very least; just stop. Really.

But the one thing I will say, is I find it funny that the same people who say “Stop telling me how I’m supposed to be playing the game!” are the same people telling saying “Your game is supposed to be this, stop turning it into what it’s not.” It’s a bit hypocritical, and besides, it’s the players that shape a game into what it is. If they want to play with no items and rulesets, then fine; that’s their right as players to do so, and they probably find it more fun.

Its primarily played on a 2d plane.

Its main mode of play is fighting.

…not shooting or puzzle solving etc…

Its a multi-player side-scrolling fighting game.

No, it’s not idiot, because what we’re advocating is playing the game the way the DEVELOPERS THEMSELVES made the game. And in cases where things are discovered in which the developers didn’t intend, we don’t just ban them.
It’s like with the DHC glitch in MvC3. If the Smash community was in charge, doing the DHC glitch in matches would already be banned.

It also wouldn’t be an issue if the Smash community actively promoted an Item-Standard ruleset as an alternative, as quite a few people in the game attempted to, without being stomped down.

Streets of Rage.
Guardian Heroes.
Double Dragon.
Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker

when did tnb get unbanned?

The reason why we hate smash is because it’s fucking lame and gay.

Yes, yes I am.

That doesn’t fly with me, because the developers made the game with an incredible amount of system direction built into it. It was made to be open ended and played in any way the players wanted. If you want no items and only a few stages, the developers made it so that could happen. If you want everyone to be metal, shooting out fire, giant, and with low gravity, the developers made it so that could happen. No matter what you do, you’re playing the way the developers made the game, precisely because it’s so open ended.

I’m not too familiar about how the banning process goes in Smash, since I don’t really keep up with Smashboards, but I’m pretty sure that there’s some deliberation on the issues instead of the instant ban like you say. The things that enhanced the game, like wavedashing, were left in as they were, while the ones that made the game unplayable, like the Infinite Dimensional Cape, were removed.

I’m not too sure about that, seeing as it makes more characters be used. But I find it funny that you say that, seeing as there’s a considerably larger motion here on SRK to ban the glitch compared to the ones that want it to stay.

You may be right on this one. But on the other hand, it could have possibly lead to even more division.

Main problem with smash: Default vs Edit.

We learn to deal with shit; you hack a game to make it like a different version of it.

At the end of the day this threads should be bannable offenses since it has already been well established that there is a subforum for smash and that all this does is create drama for no reason.

Cause Brawl sucks, and even top players in Smash don’t like it. It wasn’t made to be a competitive game, and even if it was a fighting game it doesn’t matter cause its not a fucking competitive game. Brawls skill gap between non skilled and skilled players isn’t much. Were in Melee top players can destroy non top players. Though Melee is too old to get into, and not everyone wants to buy a GameCube and Melee. When almost everyone has a 360 and PS3 to play fighting games. Fuck smash anyway if I had my way everyone would be playing Vampire Sav, king of fighters 2002U, and Super Turbo.

SRK vs. Smash has nothing to do with Brawl vs. Melee. Because the problem is with the COMMUNITY, NOT THE GAMES. This same problem existed even BEFORE Brawl.

So says the SF4 player. Honestly you post-2009 SF4-only players are no better.

No there isn’t. What little there is, is done on the front page and newbie forums, by post-2009 retards.
And fortunately, they have no power or influence on the direction of the community.

Whereas No Item Final Destination and the stamping out of Item Standard play was actually done by people on Smashboards who DID have power and influence.
Including people encouraging Smash players to boycott EVO because they dared to run Item Standard play.

I was pointing out how much brawl is not a competitive game at all. Anyway you don’t here king of the fighters fans crying all the time like smash players
