Isn’t Gouken - Akuma pretty fair as long as Gouken manages to stay on his feet?
A few wins don’t change an entire matchup. It just means the Hawk player outplayed the Blanka player.
I’ve never seen a Hawk player beating a Blanka in a tournament (just online stuff). And I can’t remember when’s the last time I saw a Bison winning against Guile. On the other hand, I’ve seen enough Blanka And Guile destroying Hawk and Blanka.
LuckyD sending the best Hakan in USA into losers might be an indication that the match is not that loopsided. Again, we have very few info on Hakan, so calling big numbers might be a little bit premature.
Also, if I remember corectly, LuckyD told UltraDavid once that he knows Hakan match up and he is not afraid of it.

As long as Gouken is on his feet, he can actually fight back. But one kd is really bad for him and good Akuma’s achieve that kd at some point during the 99secs. Furthermore Akuma’s far.HK is a deadly poke in that mu, as Gouken can not duck the second hit. Tatsu - sweep is working as well and jump in ex air fireball beats Gouken’s ex tatsu and even counter. Coupled with Akuma’s escape options…
I do not say it’s the worst match up in the game, but possibly somewhere on top of the list.
It’s 6-4, this matchup shouldn’t even be mentioned in this thread next to stuff like Blanka/Hawk or Guile/Bison, those basically have no hope of winning without being lucky as fuck.

Oni vs Bison is probably a 3-7 in Bison’s favor, but yeah T Hawk vs Blanka is pretty much the accepted worse match up with Guile vs Bison not far behind.
I’ve watched a hell of a lot of YouTube matches and I can’t recall a high level Dhalsim beating a high level Yun at all (I’m sure there are some, but I honestly can’t remember one out of the thousands of matches I’ve watched). On the other hand I’ve definitely seen quite a few Hawk wins over Blanka and Bison wins over Guile.
I admit I haven’t seen this matchup much. However watching the few examples online I can find and then just viewing the actual tools of the characters I can’t see what would make this matchup a 7-3 at all. What is so bad about it?
The only really bad thing I can see is that Bison’s wakeup options deal well with Oni’s crossup or not demon slashes, but other than that it seems pretty even to me, what exactly am I missing that makes the matchup so much harder for Oni than others?

Seriously, but considering Akuma´s health/stun and Gouken´s damage output, it can´t be worse than 6-4 for Akuma,lol.
If I am not mistaken, but Wao stated on his blog that Oni has a disadvantage against the likes of Chun, Boxer, Claw, Dictator, more than against Fei or Cammy, so I assume he gets shit on through the buttons of these named characters. I also play Dictator and his pokes are hard for Oni to overcome, the Demon Slash gets also beaten by ST.HK for example, I personally think, it is the ground game of Dictator, which makes it very hard for Oni.
Onis button priority is weak according to MetalMusicMan, while they have good reach(Wao makes good use of the F+HP in combination with the fireballs).
Bison’s wins in neutral with better buttons. Oni’s fireballs also conveniently dissipate outside of EX scissors range. Basically Oni can’t force Bison to walk forward. Once Bison has meter and life lead he can run away all day. It’s sorta like sim gief.
I wouldn’t categorize it as one of the worst matchups though, since Oni can still do mixups up close and burn meter to do damage. Bison also has a problem taking back a life lead as always.
I used to think Sim vs Zangief was 10-0, then I learned how to lariat.
No but seriously, T-Hawk vs Blanka is the worst, its Bath Salts insane. Blanka doesn’t even have to think while T-Hawk has to think, react, and pray.
I don’t really know matchups in this game. Especially for characters like Hawk and Blanka. Why is it such a bad matchup?
Blanka’s up ball travels at the perfect angle to beat condor dive. None of the blanka balls can be punished on block by Thawk so Blanka is free to throw them out at any time. Blanka’s EX Up ball gets him out of mixups should he ever actually get knocked down by THawk as Up ball beats throws, and some of THawk’s ambigous crossup stuff, and puts Blanka on the opposite side of the screen if Thawk tries to make it whiff by just jumping over Blanka, and unless Blanka is in the corner THawk can’t punish EX Up ball on block either.
Blanka has great pokes to contend with THawk, as well as fast walk speed. Also crouching blanka goes under a number of Thawks pokes. Plus Blanka’s jumps are hard for THawk to AA I think.
Those are the biggest issues to my understanding.

I recently started counterpicking hawk players with Blanka.
You can win on 2 buttons. Fierce ball. Roundhouse up ball. Done. No spacing. No frame data.
Just do straight balls if he’s grounded. Up balls if he jumps. And you can up ball him from clear across the screen if he neutral jumps. Easily worst matchup. Period

I wonder what could be done about this match. Maybe make one of the C. Spire have better range so he can punnish Balls ? Or it would need too much range and become broken ?
