Of playing the game legit when the majority of the community just goes for mashing either :lp:/:lk: into a chained launcher? This is a serious question I always ask myself. By legit play I mean knowing your spacing, footsies, when to tag in/out, raw launchers ect. Every time I play I practice these things always as I try to improve every match I play. But there’s always these players that say “fuck fundamentals” and go to their scub tactic ways. What grinds my gears too sometimes is these people happen to send gloat mail lol. Do you think with the patch nerfing abc chains/magic series people will try to learn to play?
It’s annoying as all hell, so I can definitely relate to this. If those players want to depend on ABC to launchers all the time, then let them proceed. If you feel comfortable with playing more competitively, then don’t stop.
Besides, one simply cannot rely on that same tactic over-and-over, eventually that player gonna have to mix it up with something that’s not obvious.
Hum… Not sure how to tell you this while remaining polite, but if you actually knew your spacing and if you had decent footsies then you wouldn’t get hit so much by “random” boost combos.
ABC chains are getting nerfed in 2013, but let’s be honest that won’t change anything for you bad players, you’ll still get blown up at mid-range because you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing. So my suggestion is stop crying about it and start stepping up your game. You think you have good fundamentals and you think you know what “playing legit” is, but you don’t. Otherwise this thread wouldn’t exist.
Sorry, just saying it like it is. You’ll never improve until you realize how much you really suck.
Happy new year btw. Let me give you some suggestions for your 2013 resolutions:
Spend more time in training mode.
Stop pretending like I know anything about what’s legit or not.
Watch more high level matches to get inspiration.
Stop calling certain tactics “scrubby” or “cheap”.
But seriously, if you get hit by a hitconfirm into launcher that’s the same as gettin hit in SSF4 by a hitconfirm into whatever combo. You don’t complain about it there, do you?
And it’s not that in SFxT jabs are stronger. Actually the ‘average’ jab in SSF4 is faster than in SFxT.
I know I can sound condescending sometimes. But truth is, I suck too. People think I’m good but I’m really not (ok, I’m good. But not THAT good :wgrin: ). But at least I’m aware of it and I know there’s a lot of things I can still improve. And that means I never stop getting better.
I guess what I’m saying is, someone can’t get better if he already considers himself good. And that also means that if you only play to win, you are not going to win. You will lose against the guy who is around your level but plays to get better.
Also, OP: if it’s in the game and if it’s allowed in tournaments then it’s legit. So instead of just dismissing some tactics by calling them scrubby or cheap, you should find ways around them. Otherwise, you’ll keep thinking that you lose to non-legit tactics. And you’ll keep being wrong.
You said you are good, now you can’t improve anymore
I think you are more than just good, but even that is never a reason to stop learning.
No, you are absolutely right. I think everyone must be honest (to others and yourself). I hope he doesn’t take it personally.
This community is the best I’ve ever seen.
I definitely consider myself crap, so there’s plenty of room to improve
I bitch more than anyone about cheap players abusing cheap shit. Definitely listen to Vulcan Hades when he says watch some high level play. Jibbo’s stream is great to watch especially when he’s blowing up guys in ranked when they’re trying to get away with abusing online bs.
If you’re not watching the various high level footage and live feed that players are busting their asses putting out on a daily basis then you are not doing everything in your power to grow. Step away from the situation for a bit and calm down by watching some of this stuff, you’ll be glad you did.
Yeah I am both of those names. I had to give up my old PSN account for SFxT because my points kept going down for some stupid reason unknown. I’d literally win a match show my BP going up and once I hit the online menu 120 points gone. Long story short PSN is ass.
I see your point. Thing is I don’t play characters that rely on turtling or “defensive” play. I like to get in there and do combos, apply pressure. And I know people are mashing these things because I always check out the replay when I know something wonky is going on. Heck there are still top players pressing :hk:/:hp: around 6x just so their launcher comes out lol. I never said i was good. I’m decent but still not at the level I want to be in. Thanks for the input though. I’m sure I’ll get better.
u guys should stop pretending like you have never lost to a slightly laggy cammy/marduk/rufus/ jump all day lllmh.
------------------ haha 90% of b+ ranks dont use half of the tools given to either character.
so a real response to the OP without sounding like a douche would be : ya its a scrub tactic just play as solid as possible with AA/AC, ull notice they only go for links if they already have u in a boost combo & most have sub par footsies. it sucks but most people who abuse the lame shit also lag so pick your AA’s or ull eat bullshit.
By high level play, we don’t mean high ranked boosters or anything like that. We mean players who actually know what they’re doing and know how to punish scrubby tactics. Real tournament players, guys like Jibbo, Ryan Hunter, Vulcan Hades and several others who can actually EXPLAIN why certain things happened in match and how to punish said garbage. Watching Jibbo’s stream and his commentary alone during matches will help you understand how to better play the game.
The only reason good players are losing to bs is because they’re getting so frustrated and hot under the collar when it happens. I play offensive close range rushdown characters without good reversals (Xiaoyu/Lili) like the TC, so I can feel his pain but I know that trash only works if you let them get away with it.
What I’m saying is that there is no such thing as a “scrubby tactic”. Players who use the term “cheap” and “scrubby” are usually the real scrubs because they have no idea how to get around certain tactics like keep away, zoning, footsies, jumping etc.
I’ve lost plenty of times to empty jump low frauds. But that’s because online those things are pretty much unblockable if there’s even a little bit of lag. But what’s important to understand here is that empty jump low isn’t a scrubby tactic in itself (offline, it’s a perfectly legit mixup). But it’s a lag tactic nonetheless. So yeah, online it could be considered a cheap way to open someone up since you can’t really react to them.
But here we’re talking about ABC chains. And while I understand it can be frustrating to constantly get hit by those boost combos, it’s important to understand that they are not scrub tactics by any means. If someone uses ABC at mid-range then they are playing smart, not scrubby. If you get blown up by ABC at mid-range it means your opponent is playing proper footsies and you aren’t. People who think ABC is a scrubby low level thing have a lot to learn about this game and footsies in general.
Chains are getting nerfed in 2013 but top players will still be using ABCs all day. Don’t think that somehow footsies are gonna be that much different all of a sudden. The only difference will be if you misjudge your spacing and buffer a chain you’ll get punished 100%. But it’s still going to be used. Just a lot less up close. Instead of spamming safe chains people will have to hit confirm normally with links just like in SF4, and that’s a good thing.
