What's the best version Alpha 3?

That’s nice for you…but the 98.87% of the world who don’t live near an arcade don’t really have to worry about that.

you can drive to one… it takes me two hours to go to chinatown fair… you’re just lazy.

M.A.M.E 107 + street fighter alpha 3 rom for the win! :wgrin:

SFA3 Max (PSP) for modes / characters
SFAA (PS2) for everything else

no thanks.
we Americans don’t roll like that.

a lot more of us americans do than you think then.

fuck 'em

exactly:wink:

that’s a shame.
cuz free / illegal ROM is a trade mark of third world gaming.

yet, this is an american site, that has a forum dedicated to kaillera battles… ok you win…

Be careful when throwing around absolutes.

While I urge people to always purchase legally licensed games and support the games industry, there are notable occasions when emulation is the only option for people to turn to. When a game is not for sale, how exactly does one pay for it? (And in other words, where can I find a legal copy of DoDonPachi to play that isn’t MAME?).

Of course, in the case of A3, this is a no-brainer. There are enough copies of A3 for modern consoles out there that people should not need emulation.

For me personally, I play A3 on a CPS2 board in an arcade cabinet. The way it was meant to be played.

i own the game for saturn, PS2 (alpha anthology), PSX, and DC… all real copies…
i PLAY backed up versions of each, however… and i play it on MAME… i think i’ve contributed enough to gaming to play it emulated with people around the country…

In that instance, I agree with you. I’m in the same boat: I’ve purchased the game three times on different consoles, and once on arcade system. But I still play it occasionally on MAME or Kawaks over Kaillera, simply because there’s no competition in my local area at all (arcade, home/friends, or otherwise).

Likewise, I bought 3S on PS2. On the same day I copied it and only play from the backup disc. Like hell I’m going to risk my original disc getting scratched and forcing me to buy a new one (ie: paying for two licenses simply because of the media dieing). Same goes for all my rare Japanese shoot 'em ups.

Copyright law grants you a license to play a game. Having bought the same license legally three times over, I feel no moral ambiguity about playing it on an emulated system.

Summing it up: emulation is not a black and white issue. People need to understand that. Those who think it’s the devil’s spawn need to understand there are those of us who treat it with respect. And those who think it’s a free for all need to stop being greedy and start putting their money where their mouths are.

Ok thanks guys ps2 it is and maybe I’ll pick up the psp version down the
road, soatome you can lock it up now!

Wow…I have the exact same home versions (Saturn, DC, PSX and PS2), I thought I was the only “Alpha 3 obsesive guy”, but the game kicks ass indeed. And for the guy asking what version to get, well I concour with those who said PS2 (Alpha Anthology) that’s the definitive version if you ask me, although I find myself playing the Saturn version the most (because of the heaven like Saturn pad) I think you can be more laid back than crazy me and just get the PS2 version, you just can’t go wrong with that one trust me.

EDIT*

Sorry I didn’t see that you already made a decision before I began posting…good decision anyway

i’m not alpha crazy…i like alpha 2 the most…which i actually only own for PS2. The saturn version that i have is just a collectors item. the dc version is collecting dust and i can’t find it. the PSX version is what i played before i got the PS2 version, only because i have a stick compatible with playstation, and not one that works with saturn… the dc backup that i play occassionally locks on me, so i don’t ilke that… and teh saturn one… i have only one controller and no stick… so i can’t play people on it.

It’s missing like half of the modes that are on the DC version, including the best mode, World Tour.

Bottom line…if you like arcades and playing competitively, then Alpha Anthology for PS2 is what’s up. You get the most solid arcade versions of all Alpha games and you can play your friends in HSFA and Pocket FIghter as a bonus.

But if you’re a console gamer with a DC, then you might as well get that version as you’ll have the most fun playing that by yourself.

to you that’s fun. if you’re a gamer like some of us though… leave the 1p action for RPG’s and whatnot.

You want the version for the saturn or the one for the PSX? There are plenty on ebay right now, some that are even less than the cost of a new game.

As for the ‘copyright law grants you a license to play a game’ business, morally what you say may make some sense, but legally, dont delude yourself. Copyright law allows you to copy a game from a disc that you own into the memory of your computer. It doesnt allow you to download a copy of a game, just because you own a different version of it.

I’m gonna go with the STA Anthology version, specifically AFA3 Upper on that collection. I have 2 of the Saturn PS2 pads, and an X-Arcade, so playing it properly isn’t an issue, and on that version you have an option I’ve wanted ever since Alpha 3 first came out: No Guard Meter. That stupid thing broke the game system IMO, and until this version of Alpha 3 I haven’t enjoyed the game that much. Since getting the collection version on PS2, though, I’m enjoying the game a lot more since I can turn off the articicial handicap that is the Guard Meter.

Gamefaqs is that way. :r:
